1主が家を建てられなければ、 建てる者たちの労苦はむなしい。 主が都を守られなければ、 見張る者が警戒してもむなしい。
1A Song of Ascents; of Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it; except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
2あなたがたが早く起き、 遅くまで起きていて、 労苦のパンを食べることはむなしい。 主は愛する者に眠りを与えられるからである。
2It is vain for you that ye rise early, and sit up late, ye that eat the bread of toil; so He giveth unto His beloved in sleep.
3見よ、子どもたちは主から受け継ぐもの。 胎の実は主からの報いである。
3Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD; the fruit of the womb is a reward.
4若い日に生まれた子どもたちは、 勇士の手にある矢のようである。
4As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of one's youth.
5矢筒をその矢で満たす人は幸いである。 門で敵と語り合うときも、恥を受けることはない。
5Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them; they shall not be put to shame, when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
