1ニネベについての宣告。エルコシュ人ナホムの幻の書。
1THE BURDEN of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
2主 は、ねたむ神、復讐を遂げる方。 主は復讐を遂げ、憤りを燃やされる。 主は敵対する者に復讐し、 敵に対して怒りを保たれる。
2The LORD is a jealous and avenging God, the LORD avengeth and is full of wrath; the LORD taketh vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserveth wrath for His enemies.
3主は怒るのに遅く、力に富み、 罪ある者を決して無罪とはされない。 主はつむじ風と嵐の中を進まれ、 雲はその足のちりである。
3The LORD is long-suffering, and great in power, and will by no means clear the guilty; the LORD, in the whirlwind and in the storm is His way, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.
4主が海を叱ると、海は干上がり、 すべての川も枯れる。 バシャンとカルメルはしおれ、 レバノンの花もしおれる。
4He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers; Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.
5山々は御前で震え、 丘々は溶ける。 地はその御前で揺れ動き、 世界と、そこに住むすべての者も震える。
5The mountains quake at Him, and the hills melt; and the earth is upheaved at His presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
6だれが主の憤りの前に立てるだろうか。 だれがその燃える怒りに耐えられるだろうか。 その憤りは火のように注がれ、 岩々は御前で砕かれる。
6Who can stand before His indignation? And who can abide in the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder before Him.
7主は良い方、 苦難の日のとりでである。 主は、ご自分のもとに身を寄せる者を 知っておられる。
7The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that take refuge in Him.
8しかし、あふれる洪水によって、 ニネベの地をことごとく滅ぼし、 敵を闇の中へ追いやられる。
8But with an overrunning flood He will make a full end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue His enemies.
9あなたがたは主に逆らって、何を企むのか。 主はことごとく滅ぼし尽くす。 苦難は二度と起こらない。
9What do ye devise against the LORD? He will make a full end; trouble shall not rise up the second time.
10彼らは、いばらのように絡み合い、 酒に酔いしれ、 乾いた刈り株のようにことごとく焼き尽くされる。
10For though they be like tangled thorns, and be drunken according to their drink, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.
11主に逆らって悪を企み、 邪悪なはかりごとを勧める者が、 あなたの中から出た。
11Out of thee came he forth, that deviseth evil against the LORD, that counselleth wickedness.
12主はこう言われる。 「彼らが勢力に満ち、数多くても、 必ず刈り倒され、消え去る。 私はあなたを苦しめたが、 もう苦しめることはない。
12Thus saith the LORD: Though they be in full strength, and likewise many, even so shall they be cut down, and he shall pass away; and though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.
13今、私は彼のくびきをあなたから砕き、 あなたを縛るものを断ち切る。」
13And now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
14主はあなたについて命じられた。 「あなたの名を継ぐ子孫は、 もはや生まれない。 私はあなたの神々の家から、 刻んだ像と鋳造された像を取り除く。 私はあなたの墓を備える。 あなたは卑しむべき者だからだ。」
14And the LORD hath given commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown; out of the house of thy god will I cut off the graven image and the molten image; I will make thy grave; for thou art become worthless.
15見よ、 山々の上に、 良い知らせをもたらし、 平和を告げる者の足がある。 ユダよ、祭りを守り、 誓願を果たせ。 よこしまな者は、もうあなたの中を通らない。 彼はことごとく断ち滅ぼされた。
15(2-1) Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that announceth peace! Keep thy feasts, O Judah, perform thy vows; for the wicked one shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
