1血に染まった都には災いだ。 それは偽りと略奪に満ち、 獲物が尽きることはない。
1Woe to the bloody city! It is all full of lies and rapine; the prey departeth not.
2むちの音、 車輪のとどろく音、 跳ねる馬、 躍り進む戦車。
2Hark! the whip, and hark! the rattling of the wheels; and prancing horses, and bounding chariots;
3突進する騎兵、 きらめく剣、 光る槍。 倒された者は数知れず、 死体は山をなし、 亡骸は尽きない。 人々はその死体につまずく。
3The horseman charging, and the flashing sword, and the glittering spear; and a multitude of slain, and a heap of carcases; and there is no end of the corpses, and they stumble upon their corpses;
4これは、姿美しく人を惑わす娼婦の、 数多くの淫行のためである。 彼女は魔術を操り、 淫行によって国々を、 魔術によって諸族を売り渡す。
4Because of the multitude of the harlotries of the well-favoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her harlotries, and families through her witchcrafts.
5「見よ、私はあなたに立ち向かう」と、 万軍の主は言われる。 「私はあなたの裾を顔の上までまくり上げ、 諸国民にあなたの裸を、 諸王国にあなたの恥を見せる。
5Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will uncover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.
6私は忌まわしい汚物をあなたに投げつけ、 あなたを卑しいものとし、 見世物にする。
6And I will cast detestable things upon thee, and make thee vile, and will make thee as dung.
7あなたを見る者は皆、あなたから逃げて言う。 『ニネベは荒れ果てた。 だれが彼女のために嘆くだろう。』 私はどこで、 あなたを慰める者たちを捜せばよいのか。」
7And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say: 'Nineveh is laid waste; who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?'
8あなたは、幾筋もの川の中にあり、 水に囲まれていたノ・アモン より優れているのか。 その防壁は海、 城壁も海 であった。
8Art thou better than No-amon, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about her; whose rampart was the sea, and of the sea her wall?
9クシュとエジプトが、 彼女の限りない力であった。 プトとリビアは、 彼女を助ける者たちであった。
9Ethiopia and Egypt were thy strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.
10それでも彼女は連れ去られ、 捕囚となった。 その幼い子どもたちは、 あらゆる通りの角で打ち砕かれた。 人々は彼女の名高い者たちのためにくじを引き、 その有力者たちは皆、鎖につながれた。
10Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity; her young children also were dashed in pieces at the head of all the streets; and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.
11あなたも酔い、 身を隠す。 あなたも敵を避けるために、 とりでを捜し求める。
11Thou also shalt be drunken, thou shalt swoon; thou also shalt seek a refuge because of the enemy.
12あなたのすべての要塞は、 初なりの実をつけたいちじくの木のようになる。 揺すれば、その実は 食べる者の口に落ちる。
12All thy fortresses shall be like fig-trees with the first-ripe figs: if they be shaken, they fall into the mouth of the eater.
13見よ、あなたの中にいる兵士たちは女のようだ。 あなたの国の門は、敵に向かって大きく開かれ、 火がそのかんぬきを焼き尽くした。
13Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women; the gates of thy land are set wide open unto thine enemies; the fire hath devoured thy bars.
14包囲に備えて水をくめ。 要塞を強くせよ。 粘土の中に入り、 練り土を踏め。 れんが窯を補強せよ。
14Draw thee water for the siege, strengthen thy fortresses; go into the clay, and tread the mortar, lay hold of the brickmould.
15そこで火があなたを焼き尽くし、 剣があなたを断ち滅ぼす。 それはいなごのように、 あなたを食い尽くす。 バッタのように増えよ。 いなごのように増えよ。
15There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall devour thee like the canker-worm; make thyself many as the canker-worm, make thyself many as the locusts.
16あなたは商人を、 空の星よりも多くした。 バッタは食い荒らし、 飛び去る。
16Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven; the canker-worm spreadeth itself, and flieth away.
17あなたの護衛たちはいなごのようであり、 役人たちはいなごの群れのようだ。 寒い日には城壁に群がるが、 太陽が昇ると飛び去る。 その行方を、 だれも知らない。
17Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy marshals as the swarms of grasshoppers, which camp in the walls in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
18アッシリアの王よ、 あなたの羊飼いたちは眠り、 貴族たちは横たわっている。 あなたの民は山々に散らされ、 彼らを集める者は一人もいない。
18Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria, thy worthies are at rest; thy people are scattered upon the mountains, and there is none to gather them.
19あなたの傷は癒やしがたく、 深手は治ることがない。 あなたについての知らせを聞く者は皆、 あなたのことで手をたたく。 あなたの絶え間ない残虐さに、 苦しまなかった者がいるだろうか。
19There is no assuaging of thy hurt, thy wound is grievous; all that hear the report of thee clap the hands over thee; for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
