1Een leerdicht van Etan, den Ezrachiet. Uw genade, o Jahweh, wil ik eeuwig bezingen, Uw trouw verkonden van geslacht tot geslacht!
1(89-1) Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite. (89-2) I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever; to all generations will I make known Thy faithfulness with my mouth.
2Want Gij hebt gesproken: Mijn genade duurt eeuwig, Mijn trouw staat als de hemel onwankelbaar vast.
2(89-3) For I have said: 'For ever is mercy built; in the very heavens Thou dost establish Thy faithfulness.
3Ik heb een verbond met mijn uitverkorene gesloten, Een eed gezworen aan David, mijn dienaar:
3(89-4) I have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn unto David My servant:
4Voor eeuwig zal Ik uw nazaat behouden, Uw troon doen staan van geslacht tot geslacht!
4(89-5) For ever will I establish thy seed, and build up thy throne to all generations.' Selah
5De hemelen loven uw wondermacht, Jahweh, En uw trouw in de gemeenschap der heiligen;
5(89-6) So shall the heavens praise Thy wonders, O LORD, Thy faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones.
6Want wie in de wolken kan zich meten met Jahweh, Wie van Gods zonen is aan Jahweh gelijk?
6(89-7) For who in the skies can be compared unto the LORD, who among the sons of might can be likened unto the LORD,
7Geweldig is God in de gemeenschap der heiligen, Machtig, ontzaglijk boven allen om Hem heen!
7(89-8) A God dreaded in the great council of the holy ones, and feared of all them that are about Him?
8God der heirscharen, Jahweh, wie komt U nabij; Uw almacht en trouw omringen U, Jahweh!
8(89-9) O LORD God of hosts, who is a mighty one, like unto Thee, O LORD? And Thy faithfulness is round about Thee.
9Gij beheerst de onstuimige zee, En bedaart de bruisende golven;
9(89-10) Thou rulest the proud swelling of the sea; when the waves thereof arise, Thou stillest them.
10Gij hebt Ráhab weggetrapt als een kreng, Uw vijanden uiteen gejaagd door uw machtige arm.
10(89-11) Thou didst crush Rahab, as one that is slain; Thou didst scatter Thine enemies with the arm of Thy strength.
11Van U is de hemel, van U is de aarde; Gij hebt de wereld gegrond met wat ze bevat.
11(89-12) Thine are the heavens, Thine also the earth; the world and the fulness thereof, Thou hast founded them.
12Het Noorden en Zuiden, Gij hebt ze geschapen; Tabor en Hermon prijzen uw Naam!
12(89-13) The north and the south, Thou hast created them; Tabor and Hermon rejoice in Thy name.
13Aan U de arm met heldenkracht; Uw hand is sterk, uw rechter verheven.
13(89-14) Thine is an arm with might; strong is Thy hand, and exalted is Thy right hand.
14Recht en gerechtigheid dragen uw troon, Genade en trouw gaan voor uw aangezicht uit!
14(89-15) Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Thy throne; mercy and truth go before Thee.
15Gelukkig het volk, dat nog jubelen kan, En wandelen in het licht van uw aanschijn, o Jahweh;
15(89-16) Happy is the people that know the joyful shout; they walk, O LORD, in the light of Thy countenance.
16Dat zich altijd verheugt in uw Naam, En in uw gerechtigheid roemt.
16(89-17) In Thy name do they rejoice all the day; and through Thy righteousness are they exalted.
17Want Gij zijt onze heerlijke schutse, Door uw goedheid heft onze hoorn zich omhoog:
17(89-18) For Thou art the glory of their strength; and in Thy favour our horn is exalted.
18Want Jahweh is ons tot schild, Israëls Heilige tot Koning!
18(89-19) For of the LORD is our shield; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.
19Eens hebt Gij in visioenen gesproken, En tot uw getrouwe gezegd: Ik heb een dapperen strijder gekroond, Hoog verheven een jongeman uit het volk.
19(89-20) Then Thou spokest in vision to Thy godly ones, and saidst: 'I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
20Ik heb David, mijn dienaar, gevonden, Hem met mijn heilige olie gezalfd;
20(89-21) I have found David My servant; with My holy oil have I anointed him;
21Mijn hand houdt hem vast, En mijn arm zal hem stutten!
21(89-22) With whom My hand shall be established; Mine arm also shall strengthen him.
22Geen vijand zal hem bespringen, Geen booswicht benauwen;
22(89-23) The enemy shall not exact from him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
23Ik leg zijn vijanden voor hem neer, En sla zijn haters tegen de grond.
23(89-24) And I will beat to pieces his adversaries before him, and smite them that hate him.
24Mijn trouw en genade zullen hem steeds vergezellen, Door mijn Naam zal zijn hoorn zich verheffen;
24(89-25) But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him; and through My name shall his horn be exalted.
25Ik leg zijn hand op de zee, Zijn rechter op de rivieren.
25(89-26) I will set his hand also on the sea, and his right hand on the rivers.
26Hij mag tot Mij roepen: Mijn Vader zijt Gij, Mijn God en de Rots van mijn heil;
26(89-27) He shall call unto Me: Thou art my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
27En Ik zal hem tot eerstgeborene verheffen, Hoog boven de koningen der aarde.
27(89-28) I also will appoint him first-born, the highest of the kings of the earth.
28Eeuwig zal Ik hem mijn genade behouden, Onverbreekbaar zal mijn verbond met hem zijn:
28(89-29) For ever will I keep for him My mercy, and My covenant shall stand fast with him.
29Ik zal zijn geslacht laten duren voor eeuwig, Zijn troon als de dagen des hemels!
29(89-30) His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
30En mochten zijn zonen mijn wet verzaken, En niet wandelen naar mijn geboden,
30(89-31) If his children forsake My law, and walk not in Mine ordinances;
31Mijn voorschriften schenden, Mijn bevel overtreden:
31(89-32) If they profane My statutes, and keep not My commandments;
32Dan zal Ik wel met de roede hun misdaad bestraffen, En met slagen hun schuld,
32(89-33) Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with strokes.
33Maar hèm zal Ik mijn gunst niet onthouden, En mijn trouw niet verloochenen.
33(89-34) But My mercy will I not break off from him, nor will I be false to My faithfulness.
34Mijn verbond zal Ik nimmer verbreken, Nooit veranderen wat Ik eens heb gezegd;
34(89-35) My covenant will I not profane, nor alter that which is gone out of My lips.
35Bij mijn heiligheid heb Ik het eens en voor altijd gezworen, En nooit breek Ik David mijn woord!
35(89-36) Once have I sworn by My holiness: Surely I will not be false unto David;
36Zijn geslacht zal eeuwig bestaan, En zijn troon als de zon voor mijn aanschijn;
36(89-37) His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before Me.
37Als de maan, die stand houdt voor eeuwig, En trouw in de wolken blijft staan.
37(89-38) It shall be established for ever as the moon; and be stedfast as the witness in sky.' Selah
38En nu hebt Gij toch uw Gezalfde versmaad en verstoten, Tegen hem uw gramschap ontstoken;
38(89-39) But Thou hast cast off and rejected, Thou hast been wroth with Thine anointed.
39Het verbond met uw dienaar verbroken, Zijn kroon vertrapt op de grond.
39(89-40) Thou hast abhorred the covenant of Thy servant; Thou hast profaned his crown even to the ground.
40Al zijn wallen hebt Gij geslecht, Zijn vestingen in puin gelegd;
40(89-41) Thou hast broken down all his fences; Thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin.
41Iedereen plundert hem, die er voorbij gaat, En zijn buren spotten met hem.
41(89-42) All that pass by the way spoil him; he is become a taunt to his neighbours.
42Gij hebt de rechterhand van zijn verdrukkers verhoogd, En al zijn vijanden van blijdschap doen juichen,
42(89-43) Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries; Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
43Doen wijken de kling van zijn zwaard, Hem geen stand doen houden in de strijd.
43(89-44) Yea, Thou turnest back the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.
44Gij hebt hem van zijn glorie beroofd, Zijn troon ter aarde geworpen;
44(89-45) Thou hast made his brightness to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.
45De dagen verkort van zijn jeugdige kracht, En hem met schande bedekt.
45(89-46) The days of his youth hast Thou shortened; Thou hast covered him with shame. Selah
46Hoe lang nog, Jahweh, zult Gij U maar altijd verbergen, En zal uw gramschap laaien als vuur?
46(89-47) How long, O LORD, wilt Thou hide Thyself for ever? How long shall Thy wrath burn like fire?
47Bedenk toch, wat het leven is, Hoe vergankelijk Gij den mens hebt gemaakt.
47(89-48) O remember how short my time is; for what vanity hast Thou created all the children of men!
48Waar leeft de man, die de dood niet zal zien, Zijn leven kan redden uit de klauw van het graf?
48(89-49) What man is he that liveth and shall not see death, that shall deliver his soul from the power of the grave? Selah
49Heer, waar zijn dan uw vroegere gunsten gebleven, Die Gij David bij uw trouw hadt bezworen?
49(89-50) Where are Thy former mercies, O Lord, which Thou didst swear unto David in Thy faithfulness?
50Ach Heer, gedenk toch de smaad van uw dienaar, De hoon der volken, die ik in mijn boezem verkrop,
50(89-51) Remember, Lord, the taunt of Thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the taunt of so many peoples;
51Waarmee uw vijanden schimpen, o Jahweh, En uw Gezalfde tergen bij iedere stap!
51(89-52) Wherewith Thine enemies have taunted, O LORD, wherewith they have taunted the footsteps of Thine anointed.
52Gezegend zij Jahweh in eeuwigheid; Amen, Amen!
52(89-53) Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
