1なぜ全能者は時を定めておられないのか。 なぜ神を知る者たちは、その日を見ないのか。
1Why are times not laid up by the Almighty? And why do not they that know Him see His days?
2境界標を動かす人々がいる。 彼らは羊の群れを力ずくで奪い取り、それを飼う。
2There are that remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed them.
3彼らはみなしごのろばを追い払い、 やもめの牛を抵当に取る。
3They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge.
4彼らは貧しい者を道から追い出す。 地の貧しい者たちは皆、身を隠す。
4They turn the needy out of the way; the poor of the earth hide themselves together.
5見よ、荒野の野ろばのように、 彼らは働きに出て、熱心に食物を捜し求める。 荒野は彼らの子どもたちのために食物をもたらす。
5Behold, as wild asses in the wilderness they go forth to their work, seeking diligently for food; the desert yieldeth them bread for their children.
6彼らは畑で自分たちの食物を刈り取る。 彼らは悪者のぶどう園で落ち穂を拾う。
6They cut his provender in the field; and they despoil the vineyard of the wicked.
7彼らは着物もなく、裸で夜を明かし、 寒さの中で何の覆いもない。
7They lie all night naked without clothing, and have no covering in the cold.
8彼らは山の夕立に濡れ、 避け所がないので岩にすがりつく。
8They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.
9乳房からみなしごを奪い取り、 貧しい者から抵当を取る者たちがいる。
9There are that pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor;
10そのため彼らは着物もなく裸で歩き回る。 飢えながら、穀物の束を運ぶ。
10So that they go about naked without clothing, and being hungry they carry the sheaves;
11彼らは石囲いの中で油を搾る。 彼らは酒ぶねを踏みながら、渇きに苦しむ。
11They make oil within the rows of these men; they tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.
12人の多い町から、人々がうめく。 傷ついた者が叫び声を上げるのに、 それでも神はその不正を咎めない。
12From out of the populous city men groan, and the soul of the wounded crieth out; yet God imputeth it not for unseemliness.
13これらは、光に逆らう者たちの仲間である。 彼らはその道を知らず、 その通り道にとどまらない。
13These are of them that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.
14人殺しは光とともに起き上がる。 彼は貧しい者と乏しい者を殺す。 夜には彼は泥棒のようになる。
14The murderer riseth with the light, to kill the poor and needy; and in the night he is as a thief.
15姦淫する者の目もまた、夕暮れを待っている。 彼は『どんな目も私を見ない』と言って、 その顔を覆い隠す。
15The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying: 'No eye shall see me'; and he putteth a covering on his face.
16彼らは暗闇の中で家々に穴を開ける。 昼は家に閉じこもる。 彼らは光を知らない。
16In the dark they dig through houses; they shut themselves up in the day-time; they know not the light.
17朝は彼らにとって死の陰。 死の陰の恐怖を彼らはよく知る。
17For the shadow of death is to all of them as the morning; for they know the terrors of the shadow of death.
18彼らは水面を漂う泡のようだ。 地上で彼らの分け前はのろわれている。 彼らはぶどう園の道へは向かわない。
18He is swift upon the face of the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth; he turneth not by the way of the vineyards.
19日照りと熱が雪解け水を干上がらせるように、 よみ も罪を犯した者たちを飲み込む。
19Drought and heat consume the snow waters; so doth the nether-world those that have sinned.
20母の胎は彼を忘れる。 うじ虫は彼を好んで食べる。 彼はもはや覚えられない。 不義は木のように折られる。
20The womb forgetteth him; the worm feedeth sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and unrighteousness is broken as a tree.
21彼は不妊の女を食い物にし、 やもめに慈しみを示さない。
21He devoureth the barren that beareth not; and doeth not good to the widow.
22それでも神は、その力によって力ある者たちを生き長らえさせる。 命の望みもない者が立ち上がる。
22He draweth away the mighty also by his power; he riseth up, and he trusteth not his own life.
23神は彼らに安全を与え、彼らは安らぐ。 神の目は彼らの道の上にある。
23Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth, yet His eyes are upon their ways.
24彼らは高く上げられるが、しばらくして、消え去る。 そうだ、彼らはほかの者と同じように低くされ、消え失せ、 穀物の穂先のように切り取られる。
24They are exalted for a little while, and they are gone; yea, they are brought low, they are gathered in as all others, and wither as the tops of the ears of corn.
25今そうでないなら、誰が私を偽り者だと証明し、 私の言葉を無価値なものとするのか。
25And if it be not so now, who will prove me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?
