1A Song of Ascents; of Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it; except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
1اگر خداوند خانه را بنا نکند، بنایانش زحمت بی‌فایده می‌کشند. اگر خداوند شهر را پاسبانی نکند، پاسبانان بی‌فایده پاسبانی می‌کنند.
2It is vain for you that ye rise early, and sit up late, ye that eat the bread of toil; so He giveth unto His beloved in sleep.
2بی‌فایده است که شماصبح زود برمی خیزید و شب دیر می‌خوابید و نان مشقت را می‌خورید. همچنان محبوبان خویش را خواب می‌بخشد.
3Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD; the fruit of the womb is a reward.
3اینک پسران میراث ازجانب خداوند می‌باشند و ثمره رحم، اجرتی ازاوست.
4As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of one's youth.
4مثل تیرها در دست مرد زور آور، همچنان هستند پسران جوانی.
5Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them; they shall not be put to shame, when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
5خوشابحال کسی‌که ترکش خود را از ایشان پر کرده است. خجل نخواهند شد بلکه با دشمنان، در دروازه سخن خواهند راند.
