1A Song of Ascents; of Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it; except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
1ถ้าพระยาห์เวห์ไม่ทรงสร้างบ้าน คนสร้างก็เหนื่อยเปล่า ถ้าพระยาห์เวห์ไม่ทรงเฝ้ารักษานคร ยามก็เฝ้าไปเปล่า ๆ
2It is vain for you that ye rise early, and sit up late, ye that eat the bread of toil; so He giveth unto His beloved in sleep.
2เปล่าประโยชน์ที่พวกท่านลุกขึ้นแต่เช้า และนอนดึก กินขนมปังที่แลกมาด้วยความตรากตรำ เพราะพระองค์ประทานการหลับพักผ่อนแก่ผู้ที่พระองค์ทรงรัก
3Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD; the fruit of the womb is a reward.
3ลูก ๆ เป็นมรดกจากพระยาห์เวห์ ลูกจากครรภ์เป็นรางวัลจากพระองค์
4As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of one's youth.
4ลูกที่เกิดเมื่อยังหนุ่ม เป็นเหมือนลูกธนูในมือนักรบ
5Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them; they shall not be put to shame, when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
5คนที่มีลูกธนูเหล่านี้เต็มกระบอกย่อมเป็นสุข เขาจะไม่อับอายเมื่อโต้ตอบศัตรูที่ประตูเมือง
