1Hallelujah. Happy is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in His commandments.
1Halleluja! Heil den man, die Jahweh vreest, En zijn geboden van harte bemint:
2His seed shall be mighty upon earth; the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
2Zijn kroost zal machtig op aarde zijn, Het geslacht der vromen zal worden gezegend.
3Wealth and riches are in his house; and his merit endureth for ever.
3Welvaart en rijkdom bewonen zijn huis, En zijn gerechtigheid houdt in eeuwigheid stand;
4Unto the upright He shineth as a light in the darkness, gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
4De vromen gaat een licht in de duisternis op, Hem, die genadig, barmhartig en rechtvaardig zal zijn.
5Well is it with the man that dealeth graciously and lendeth, that ordereth his affairs rightfully.
5Heil den man, die weggeeft en leent, En zijn zaken beheert volgens recht;
6For he shall never be moved; the righteous shall be had in everlasting remembrance.
6Want in eeuwigheid zal de rechtvaardige niet wankelen, En hij blijft in de herinnering voor eeuwig.
7He shall not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is stedfast, trusting in the LORD.
7Voor kwade geruchten is hij niet bang; Zijn hart blijft rotsvast op Jahweh vertrouwen,
8His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he gaze upon his adversaries.
8Onverstoorbaar, onbevreesd, Totdat hij op zijn vijanden neerziet.
9He hath scattered abroad, he hath given to the needy; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted in honour.
9Milddadig deelt hij aan de armen uit: Zijn gerechtigheid houdt in eeuwigheid stand, En zijn hoorn verheft zich in ere.
10The wicked shall see it, and be vexed; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away; the desire of the wicked shall perish.
10De boze ziet het vol afgunst, En knarsetandend gaat hij te gronde: Nooit wordt de wens der bozen vervuld!
