1主はモーセに告げられた。
1And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
2「ミディアン人に対するイスラエルの子らの復讐を遂げなさい。その後、あなたはその民に加えられる。」
2'Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites; afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.'
3モーセは民に言った。「あなたがたの中から戦いに出る者を武装させ、ミディアンを攻めて、主の復讐を遂げさせなさい。
3And Moses spoke unto the people, saying: 'Arm ye men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian, to execute the LORD'S vengeance on Midian.
4イスラエルのすべての部族から、各部族千人ずつを戦いに遣わしなさい。」
4Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.'
5こうしてイスラエルの部隊から、各部族千人ずつ、合わせて一万二千人が戦いのために召集された。
5So there were delivered, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
6モーセは各部族から千人ずつを戦いに遣わした。祭司エルアザルの子ピネハスも、聖所の器具と合図のラッパを手にして彼らとともに出陣した。
6And Moses sent them, a thousand of every tribe, to the war, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy vessels and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand.
7彼らは主がモーセに命じられたとおりにミディアンと戦い、すべての男子を殺した。
7And they warred against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew every male.
8彼らは殺された者たちとともにミディアンの王たち、すなわちエヴィ、レケム、ツル、フル、レバというミディアンの五人の王を殺した。彼らはまた、ベオルの子バラムを剣で殺した。
8And they slew the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian; Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.
9イスラエルの子らはミディアンの女たちと幼子を捕虜にし、家畜、羊の群れ、財産をすべて戦利品として奪った。
9And the children of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones; and all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods, they took for a prey.
10彼らは、彼らが住んでいたすべての町々と、すべての宿営を火で燃やした。
10And all their cities in the places wherein they dwelt, and all their encampments, they burnt with fire.
11彼らは人も家畜も、捕虜と戦利品をすべて取った。
11And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of man and of beast.
12そして捕虜と戦利品を、エリコの向かい、ヨルダン川のほとりのモアブの平野にある宿営へ持ち帰り、モーセ、祭司エルアザル、イスラエルの子らの会衆のもとへ届けた。
12And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp, unto the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan at Jericho.
13モーセ、祭司エルアザル、および会衆のすべての指導者たちは、彼らを出迎えるために宿営の外に出た。
13And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.
14モーセは、戦いから帰って来た軍の指揮官、千人隊長、百人隊長に怒った。
14And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war.
15モーセは言った。「女たちをみな生かしておいたのか。
15And Moses said unto them: 'Have ye saved all the women alive?
16この女たちは、バラムの助言によって、ペオルの事件でイスラエルの子らを主に背かせた者たちではないか。そのため、主の会衆に疫病が起こった。
16Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to revolt so as to break faith with the LORD in the matter of Peor, and so the plague was among the congregation of the LORD.
17今、幼子のうち男子をみな殺し、男と寝たことのある女をみな殺しなさい。
17Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
18しかし、男と寝たことのない若い女はみな生かしておきなさい。
18But all the women children, that have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
19あなたがたは七日間、宿営の外にとどまりなさい。人を殺した者、殺された者に触れた者は、三日目と七日目に、自分と捕虜を清める。
19And encamp ye without the camp seven days; whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day, ye and your captives.
20あなたがたはすべての衣服、すべての革製品、山羊の毛で作られたすべてのもの、およびすべての木製品を清めなさい。」
20And as to every garment, and all that is made of skin, and all work of goats' hair, and all things made of wood, ye shall purify.'
21祭司エルアザルは、戦いに行った軍人たちに言った。「これが主がモーセに命じられた律法の掟である。
21And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war that went to the battle: 'This is the statute of the law which the LORD hath commanded Moses:
22金、銀、青銅、鉄、すず、鉛、
22Howbeit the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
23火に耐えるものはすべて火の中を通せば清くなる。ただし、汚れを清める水でも清める。火に耐えないものはすべて水の中を通す。
23every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make to go through the fire, and it shall be clean; nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of sprinkling; and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make to go through the water.
24七日目に衣服を洗えば清くなり、その後、宿営に入ることができる。」
24And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye may come into the camp.'
25主はモーセに告げられた。
25And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
26「あなたと祭司エルアザル、会衆の父祖の家の長たちは、奪った戦利品のうち、人と家畜の総数を数えなさい。
26'Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers' houses of the congregation;
27戦利品を、戦いに出た兵士と全会衆との間で二等分しなさい。
27and divide the prey into two parts: between the men skilled in war, that went out to battle, and all the congregation;
28戦いに出た兵士の分から、主への貢ぎ物を取りなさい。人、牛、ろば、羊、それぞれ五百につき一つである。
28and levy a tribute unto the LORD of the men of war that went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the flocks;
29彼らの半分からそれを取り、主への奉納物として祭司エルアザルに与えなさい。
29take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, as a portion set apart for the LORD.
30イスラエルの子らの半分からは、人、牛、ろば、羊、その他の家畜を、五十につき一つ取り、主の幕屋の務めを担うレビ人に与えなさい。」
30And of the children of Israel's half, thou shalt take one drawn out of every fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, even of all the cattle, and give them unto the Levites, that keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.'
31モーセと祭司エルアザルは、主がモーセに命じられたとおりに行った。
31And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.
32軍人たちが奪った獲物の残りのぶんどり物は、羊六十七万五千頭、
32Now the prey, over and above the booty which the men of war took, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,
33牛七万二千頭、
33and threescore and twelve thousand beeves,
34ろば六万一千頭、
34and threescore and one thousand asses,
35また、男と寝たことのない女が、合わせて三万二千人であった。
35and thirty and two thousand persons in all, of the women that had not known man by lying with him.
36その半分、すなわち戦いに出た者たちの割り当ては、羊三十三万七千五百頭であった。
36And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep.
37その羊からの主への貢ぎ物は六百七十五頭であった。
37And the LORD'S tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen.
38牛は三万六千頭であり、その中からの主への貢ぎ物は七十二頭であった。
38And the beeves were thirty and six thousand, of which the LORD'S tribute was threescore and twelve.
39ろばは三万五百頭であり、その中からの主への貢ぎ物は六十一頭であった。
39And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred, of which the LORD'S tribute was threescore and one.
40人は一万六千人であり、その中からの主への貢ぎ物は三十二人であった。
40And the persons were sixteen thousand, of whom the LORD'S tribute was thirty and two persons.
41モーセは主が命じられたとおり、主への奉納物である貢ぎ物を祭司エルアザルに与えた。
41And Moses gave the tribute, which was set apart for the LORD, unto Eleazar the priest, as the LORD commanded Moses.
42モーセが戦った男たちから分けた、イスラエルの子らの半分については、
42And of the children of Israel's half, which Moses divided off from the men that warred —
43（会衆の半分は、羊三十三万七千五百頭、
43now the congregation's half was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep,
44牛三万六千頭、
44and thirty and six thousand beeves,
45ろば三万五百頭、
45and thirty thousand and five hundred asses,
46および人一万六千人であった。）
46and sixteen thousand persons —
47モーセはそのイスラエルの子らの半分から、人であれ動物であれ、五十につき一つを取り出し、主がモーセに命じられたとおり、主の幕屋の任務を果たすレビ人に与えた。
47even of the children of Israel's half, Moses took one drawn out of every fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, that kept the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.
48軍の部隊を指揮する千人隊長と百人隊長が、モーセのもとに来た。
48And the officers that were over the thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses;
49彼らはモーセに言った。「しもべどもが指揮下の兵士を数えましたが、私たちのうち一人も欠けていません。
49and they said unto Moses: 'Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war that are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.
50そこで私たちは、各自が手に入れた金の装飾品、腕輪、腕飾り、指輪、耳輪、首飾りを、主へのささげ物として持って来ました。主の前で私たちの命のために贖いを行うためです。」
50And we have brought the LORD'S offering, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, armlets, and bracelets, signet-rings, ear-rings, and girdles, to make atonement for our souls before the LORD.'
51モーセと祭司エルアザルは、彼らから金、すなわちすべての細工物を受け取った。
51And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels.
52千人隊長と百人隊長が主にささげた奉納物の金は、合わせて一万六千七百五十シェケル であった。
52And all the gold of the gift that they set apart for the LORD, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels. —
53軍人たちはめいめい自分のために獲物を奪っていた。
53For the men of war had taken booty, every man for himself. —
54モーセと祭司エルアザルは千人の長たちや百人の長たちから金を受け取り、イスラエルの子らのための主の前での記念として、それを会見の天幕に持って行った。
54And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tent of meeting, for a memorial for the children of Israel before the LORD.
