1ヨセフの子マナセの氏族に属する、マナセの子マキルの子ギルアデの子ヘフェルの子ゼロフェハデの娘たちが近づいて来た。娘たちの名はマフラ、ノア、ホグラ、ミルカ、ティルツァであった。
1Then drew near the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.
2彼女たちは会見の天幕の入口で、モーセ、祭司エルアザル、指導者たち、および全会衆の前に立って言った。
2And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, at the door of the tent of meeting, saying:
3「私たちの父は荒野で死にました。コラの仲間として主に逆らって集まった者たちの中にはおらず、自分の罪のために死んだのです。父には息子がいませんでした。
3'Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not among the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah, but he died in his own sin; and he had no sons.
4息子がいないために、なぜ父の名がその氏族から消されるのでしょう。父の兄弟たちの間で、私たちにも相続地を与えてください。」
4Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he had no son? Give unto us a possession among the brethren of our father.'
5モーセは彼女たちの訴えを主の前に差し出した。
5And Moses brought their cause before the LORD.
6主はモーセに告げられた。
6And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
7「ゼロフェハデの娘たちの言うことは正しい。彼女たちの父の兄弟たちの間に、必ず相続地を与え、父の相続地を娘たちに受け継がせなさい。
7'The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.
8イスラエルの子らにこう告げなさい。『人が死んで息子がいない場合、その相続地を娘に受け継がせる。
8And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying: If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter.
9もし娘もいないなら、その所有地を彼の兄弟たちに与える。
9And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren.
10もし兄弟たちもいないなら、その所有地を彼の父の兄弟たちに与える。
10And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father's brethren.
11父に兄弟もいない場合、その相続地を氏族の中で最も近い親族に与え、その人が受け継ぐ。これは、主がモーセに命じられたとおり、イスラエルの子らのための法令となる。』」
11And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it. And it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as the LORD commanded Moses.'
12主はモーセに言われた。「このアバリムの山に登り、わたしがイスラエルの子らに与える地を見なさい。
12And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Get thee up into this mountain of Abarim, and behold the land which I have given unto the children of Israel.
13それを見た後、兄弟アロンと同じように、あなたもその民に加えられる。
13And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered;
14会衆が争ったとき、あなたがたはツィンの荒野でわたしの命令に背き、水のことで彼らの前にわたしを聖なる者として示さなかったからである。」これはツィンの荒野、カデシュにあるメリバの水のことである。
14because ye rebelled against My commandment in the wilderness of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify Me at the waters before their eyes.' — These are the waters of Meribath-kadesh in the wilderness of Zin. —
15モーセは主に言った。
15And Moses spoke unto the LORD, saying:
16「すべての肉なるものの霊を治める神、主よ、どうか会衆の上に一人の人を任命してください。
16'Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,
17彼らの先に立って出入りし、彼らを導き出し、導き入れる人です。主の会衆が、羊飼いのいない羊のようにならないためです。」
17who may go out before them, and who may come in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.'
18主はモーセに言われた。「ヌンの子ヨシュア、内に霊のある人を取り、彼の上に手を置きなさい。
18And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is spirit, and lay thy hand upon him;
19彼を祭司エルアザルと全会衆の前に立たせ、彼らの前で任命しなさい。
19and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.
20あなたの権威の一部を彼に与え、イスラエルの子らの全会衆が彼に従うようにしなさい。
20And thou shalt put of thy honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may hearken.
21彼は祭司エルアザルの前に立ち、エルアザルは主の前で、ウリムの判断によって彼のために伺いを立てる。その命令によって、ヨシュアも、彼とともにいるイスラエルの子らも、全会衆も、出入りする。」
21And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the LORD; at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.'
22モーセは主が命じられたとおりに行った。彼はヨシュアを取り、彼を祭司エルアザルと全会衆の前に立たせた。
22And Moses did as the LORD commanded him; and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation.
23モーセは彼の上に手を置き、主がモーセを通して語られたとおり、彼を任命した。
23And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the LORD spoke by the hand of Moses.
