1主はモーセとアロンに告げられた。
1And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying:
2「主が命じられた律法の掟は次のとおりである。イスラエルの子らに、傷も欠陥もなく、まだくびきを負ったことのない赤い雌牛を連れて来るよう告げなさい。
2This is the statute of the law which the LORD hath commanded, saying: Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a red heifer, faultless, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came yoke.
3それを祭司エルアザルに渡す。彼は宿営の外へ引き出し、自分の前で屠らせる。
3And ye shall give her unto Eleazar the priest, and she shall be brought forth without the camp, and she shall be slain before his face.
4祭司エルアザルはその血を指に取り、会見の天幕の正面に向かって七度振りかける。
4And Eleazar the priest shall take of her blood with his finger, and sprinkle of her blood toward the front of the tent of meeting seven times.
5雌牛は彼の前で焼かれる。その皮、肉、血を、糞とともに焼く。
5And the heifer shall be burnt in his sight; her skin, and her flesh, and her blood, with her dung, shall be burnt.
6祭司は杉の木、ヒソプ、緋色の糸を取り、燃えている雌牛の中に投げ入れる。
6And the priest shall take cedar-wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the midst of the burning of the heifer.
7その後、祭司は衣服を洗い、体を水で洗う。それから宿営に入ることができるが、夕方まで汚れている。
7Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he may come into the camp, and the priest shall be unclean until the even.
8雌牛を焼いた者も衣服を水で洗い、体を水で洗う。彼は夕方まで汚れている。
8And he that burneth her shall wash his clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the even.
9清い人が雌牛の灰を集め、宿営の外の清い場所に置く。それはイスラエルの子らの会衆のため、汚れを清める水に用いるものとして保管する。これは贖罪のささげ物である。
9And a man that is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and lay them up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for a water of sprinkling; it is a purification from sin.
10雌牛の灰を集めた者は衣服を洗い、夕方まで汚れている。これはイスラエルの子らにも、彼らの間に住む寄留者にも、永遠の掟となる。
10And he that gathereth the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even; and it shall be unto the children of Israel, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among them, for a statute for ever.
11人の死体に触れた者は七日間汚れる。
11He that toucheth the dead, even any man's dead body, shall be unclean seven days;
12その者は三日目と七日目にその水で身を清め、七日目に清くなる。しかし、三日目と七日目に身を清めなければ、清くならない。
12the same shall purify himself therewith on the third day and on the seventh day, and he shall be clean; but if he purify not himself the third day and the seventh day, he shall not be clean.
13死んだ人の体に触れながら身を清めない者は、主の幕屋を汚す。その者はイスラエルから断たれる。汚れを清める水を振りかけられなかったので、その人は汚れており、汚れはなおその身にある。
13Whosoever toucheth the dead, even the body of any man that is dead, and purifieth not himself — he hath defiled the tabernacle of the LORD — that soul shall be cut off from Israel; because the water of sprinkling was not dashed against him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him.
14人が天幕の中で死んだ場合の律法は次のとおりである。その天幕に入る者も、中にいる者も、みな七日間汚れる。
14This is the law: when a man dieth in a tent, every one that cometh into the tent, and every thing that is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days.
15ふたをして封じていない開いた器は、すべて汚れる。
15And every open vessel, which hath no covering close-bound upon it, is unclean.
16野外で、剣で殺された者、死体、人の骨、あるいは墓に触れた者は、七日間汚れる。
16And whosoever in the open field toucheth one that is slain with a sword, or one that dieth of himself, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.
17汚れた者のために、贖罪のささげ物を焼いた灰を取り、器の中でその上に流水を注ぐ。
17And for the unclean they shall take of the ashes of the burning of the purification from sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel.
18清い人がヒソプを取り、その水に浸して、天幕、すべての器、そこにいた人々、また骨、殺された者、死体、あるいは墓に触れた者に振りかける。
18And a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and upon the persons that were there, and upon him that touched the bone, or the slain, or the dead, or the grave.
19清い人は三日目と七日目に、汚れた者に振りかける。七日目にその人を清める。その人は衣服を洗い、体を水で洗い、夕方には清くなる。
19And the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day; and on the seventh day he shall purify him; and he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even.
20しかし、汚れていながら身を清めない者は、集会の中から断たれる。主の聖所を汚したからである。汚れを清める水を振りかけられなかったので、その人は汚れている。
20But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from the midst of the assembly, because he hath defiled the sanctuary of the LORD; the water of sprinkling hath not been dashed against him: he is unclean.
21これは彼らにとって永遠の掟となる。汚れを清める水を振りかけた者は衣服を洗い、その水に触れた者は夕方まで汚れている。
21And it shall be a perpetual statute unto them; and he that sprinkleth the water of sprinkling shall wash his clothes; and he that toucheth the water of sprinkling shall be unclean until even.
22汚れた者が触れるものはすべて汚れ、それに触れた者も夕方まで汚れている。」
22And whatsoever the unclean person toucheth shall be unclean; and the soul that toucheth him shall be unclean until even.
