1Temani Eliphaz loh a doo tih,
1Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said:
2Pathen te hlang loh s hmaiben a?Lungming khaw amah la dawk a hmaiben uh.
2Can a man be profitable unto God? Or can he that is wise be profitable unto Him?
3Na tang mai tih na mueluemnah mai akhaw, na khoboe soep cakhaw tlungthang hamla naep aya?
3Is it any advantage to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? Or is it gain to Him, that thou makest thy ways blameless?
4Na hinyahnah dongah nang te laitloeknah neh n'khuen tih nang n'tluung a?
4Is it for thy fear of Him that He reproveth thee, that He entereth with thee into judgment?
5Na boethae tangkik pawt nim?Nang kah thaesainah te a bawtnah om pawh.
5Is not thy wickedness great? And are not thine iniquities without end?
6For thou hast taken pledges of thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
7Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
8Bantha aka khueh hlang loh amah hamla khohmuen a khueh tih a sokah khosa mikhmuh ah a dangrhoek.
8And as a mighty man, who hath the earth, and as a man of rank, who dwelleth in it,
9Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
10Na kaepvai kah pael dongah he khaw na birhihnah neh buengrhuet na let.
10Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden dread affrighted thee,
11Or darkness, that thou canst not see, and abundance of waters cover thee.
12Pathen tah vaan sang kah moenih a?So lah, aisi rhoek kah a lu tah pomsang uh te.
12Is not God in the height of heaven? And behold the topmost of the stars, how high they are!
13Te lalah, “Pathen te metlam a mingpha?Yinnah lamloh lai a tloek a?
13And thou sayest: 'What doth God know? Can He judge through the dark cloud?
14Anih te khomai loh a huep tih tueng pawh.
14Thick clouds are a covering to Him, that He seeth not; and He walketh in the circuit of heaven.'
15Boethae hlang rhoek loh a cawt khosuen caehlong nim na ngaithuen salah?
15Wilt thou keep the old way which wicked men have trodden?
16A tonga uh vaengah a tue pawt ah khaw tuiva loh amih kah khoengim te a hawt pah.
16Who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream;
17“Pathen te mamih taeng lamloh nong saeh, Tlungthang loh mamih taengah balae a saii eh? ” a ti uh.
17Who said unto God: 'Depart from us'; and what could the Almighty do unto them?
18Amah loh amih im te hnothen a cung sak sitoe cakhaw halang kah cilsuep tah kai lamloh lakhla saeh.
18Yet He filled their houses with good things — but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19Aka dueng rhoek loh a hmuh vaengah a kohoe uh tih ommongsitoe loh amih te a tamdaeng.
19The righteous saw it, and were glad, and the innocent laugh them to scorn:
20Mamih kah thinnaeh a thup vetih amih kah a coih te hmai loh hlawp het pawt nim?
20'Surely their substance is cut off, and their abundance the fire hath consumed.'
21Amah neh hmaiben lamtah te nen te thuung laeh. Nang taengah hnothen ha pawk bitni.
21Acquaint now thyself with Him, and be at peace; thereby shall thine increase be good.
22A ka lamkah olkhueng mah doe laeh, a ol te khaw na thinko khuiah khueh laeh.
22Receive, I pray thee, instruction from His mouth, and lay up His words in thy heart.
23Tlungthang taengla na mael atah n'thoh bitni dumlai mah na dap lamloh lakhla sak.
23If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up — if thou put away unrighteousness far from thy tents,
24Pasing te laipi bangla, Ophir te soklong kah lungpang bangla khueh ngawn.
24And lay thy treasure in the dust, and the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks;
25And the Almighty be thy treasure, and precious silver unto thee;
26Then surely shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
27Thou shalt make thy prayer unto Him, and He will hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows;
28Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee, and light shall shine upon thy ways.
29A kunyun uh vaengah koevoeinah na thui dae tlahoei mik ni a khang eh.
29When they cast thee down, thou shalt say: 'There is lifting up'; for the humble person He saveth.
30Ommongsitoe pawt khaw loeih vetih na kut kah cimcaihnah loh a loeih sak ni,” a ti.
30He delivereth him that is innocent, yea, thou shalt be delivered through the cleanness of thy hands.
