1Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:
1А Елифас Теманац одговори и рече:
2“Does a wise man answer with empty counsel or fill his belly with the hot east wind?
2Хоће ли мудар човек казивати празне мисли и пунити трбух ветром источним,
3Should he argue with useless words or speeches that serve no purpose?
3Препирући се говором који не помаже и речима које нису ни на шта?
4But you even undermine the fear of God and hinder meditation before Him.
4А ти уништаваш страх Божји и укидаш молитве к Богу.
5For your iniquity instructs your mouth, and you choose the language of the crafty.
5Јер безакоње твоје показују уста твоја, ако и јеси изабрао језик лукав.
6Your own mouth, not mine, condemns you; your own lips testify against you.
6Осуђују те уста твоја, а не ја; и усне твоје сведоче на те.
7Were you the first man ever born? Were you brought forth before the hills?
7Јеси ли се ти први човек родио? Или си пре хумова саздан?
8Do you listen in on the council of God or limit wisdom to yourself?
8Јеси ли тајну Божију чуо и покупио у себе мудрост?
9What do you know that we do not? What do you understand that is not clear to us?
9Шта ти знаш што ми не бисмо знали? Шта ти разумеш што не би било у нас?
10Both the gray-haired and the aged are on our side— men much older than your father.
10И седих и старих људи има међу нама, старијих од оца твог.
11Are the consolations of God not enough for you, even words spoken gently to you?
11Мале ли су ти утехе Божије? Или имаш шта сакривено у себи?
12Why has your heart carried you away, and why do your eyes flash,
12Што те је занело срце твоје? И што севају очи твоје,
13as you turn your spirit against God and pour such words from your mouth?
13Те обраћаш против Бога дух свој и пушташ из уста својих такве речи?
14What is man, that he should be pure, or one born of woman, that he should be righteous?
14Шта је човек, да би био чист, и рођени од жене, да би био прав?
15If God puts no trust in His holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in His eyes,
15Гле, не верује свецима својим, и небеса нису чиста пред очима Његовим;
16how much less man, who is vile and corrupt, who drinks injustice like water?
16А камоли гадни и смрдљиви човек, који пије неправду као воду?
17Listen to me and I will inform you. I will describe what I have seen,
17Ја ћу ти казати, послушај ме, и приповедићу ти шта сам видео,
18what was declared by wise men and was not concealed from their fathers,
18Шта мудраци казаше и не затајише, шта примише од отаца својих,
19to whom alone the land was given when no foreigner passed among them.
19Којима самим дана би земља, и туђин не прође кроз њу.
20A wicked man writhes in pain all his days; only a few years are reserved for the ruthless.
20Безбожник се мучи свега века свог, и насилнику је мало година остављено.
21Sounds of terror fill his ears; in his prosperity the destroyer attacks him.
21Страх му зуји у ушима, у мирно доба напада пустошник на њ.
22He despairs of his return from darkness; he is marked for the sword.
22Не верује да ће се вратити из таме, одсвуда привиђа мач.
23He wanders about as food for vultures; he knows the day of darkness is at hand.
23Тумара за хлебом говорећи: Где је? Зна да је за њ спремљен дан тамни.
24Distress and anguish terrify him, overwhelming him like a king poised to attack.
24Туга и невоља страше га, и наваљују на њ као цар готов на бој.
25For he has stretched out his hand against God and has vaunted himself against the Almighty,
25Јер је замахнуо на Бога руком својом, и Свемогућем се опро.
26rushing headlong at Him with a thick, studded shield.
26Трчи исправљена врата на њ с многим високим штитовима својим.
27Though his face is covered with fat and his waistline bulges with flesh,
27Јер је покрио лице своје претилином, и наваљао сало на бокове своје.
28he will dwell in ruined cities, in abandoned houses destined to become rubble.
28И седео је у градовима раскопаним и у кућама пустим, обраћеним у гомилу камења.
29He will no longer be rich; his wealth will not endure. His possessions will not overspread the land.
29Неће се обратити нити ће остати благо његово, и неће се раширити по земљи добро његово.
30He will not escape from the darkness; the flame will wither his shoots, and the breath of God’s mouth will carry him away.
30Неће изаћи из мрака, огранке његове осушиће пламен, однеће га дух уста његових.
31Let him not deceive himself with trust in emptiness, for emptiness will be his reward.
31Нека се не узда у таштину преварени, јер ће му таштина бити плата.
32It will be paid in full before his time, and his branch will not flourish.
32Пре свог времена свршиће се, и грана његова неће зеленети.
33He will be like a vine stripped of its unripe grapes, like an olive tree that sheds its blossoms.
33Откинуће се као с лозе незрео грозд његов и пупци ће се његови као с маслине побацати.
34For the company of the godless will be barren, and fire will consume the tents of bribery.
34Јер ће опустети збор лицемерски, и огањ ће спалити шаторе оних који примају поклоне.
35They conceive trouble and give birth to evil; their womb is pregnant with deceit.”
35Зачињу невољу и рађају муку, и трбух њихов саставља превару.
