1คนทั่วทั้งแผ่นดินพูดภาษาเดียวกัน และใช้ถ้อยคำแบบเดียวกัน
1And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech.
2เมื่อพวกเขาเดินทางไปทางตะวันออกพวกเขาพบที่ราบแห่งหนึ่งในดินแดนชินาร์และตั้งถิ่นฐานอยู่ที่นั่น
2And it came to pass, as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3พวกเขาพูดกันว่า “มาเถอะ เรามาทำอิฐกัน แล้วเผาให้แข็ง” พวกเขาใช้อิฐแทนหิน และใช้ยางมะตอยแทนปูน
3And they said one to another: 'Come, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly.' And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.
4แล้วพวกเขากล่าวว่า “มาเถอะ เรามาสร้างเมืองและหอคอยที่ยอดสูงถึงท้องฟ้ากัน แล้วสร้างชื่อให้พวกเราเอง จะได้ไม่กระจัดกระจายไปทั่วแผ่นดิน”
4And they said: 'Come, let us build us a city, and a tower, with its top in heaven, and let us make us a name; lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.'
5พระยาห์เวห์ลงมาดูเมืองและหอคอยที่มนุษย์สร้างขึ้น
5And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6พระยาห์เวห์กล่าวว่า “ดูสิ พวกเขาเป็นชนเดียวกัน และทุกคนใช้ภาษาเดียวกัน นี่เป็นเพียงจุดเริ่มต้นของสิ่งที่พวกเขากำลังทำ ต่อจากนี้ ไม่ว่าพวกเขาคิดจะทำอะไร ก็ไม่มีอะไรขัดขวางพวกเขาได้
6And the LORD said: 'Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do; and now nothing will be withholden from them, which they purpose to do.
7มาเถอะ เราลงไปทำให้ภาษาของพวกเขาสับสน เพื่อให้พวกเขาไม่เข้าใจคำพูดของกันและกัน”
7Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.'
8พระยาห์เวห์จึงทำให้พวกเขากระจัดกระจายจากที่นั่นไปทั่วแผ่นดิน และพวกเขาก็หยุดสร้างเมือง
8So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth; and they left off to build the city.
9เมืองนั้นจึงได้ชื่อว่าบาเบล เพราะที่นั่นพระยาห์เวห์ทำให้ภาษาของคนทั้งแผ่นดินสับสน และจากที่นั่นพระยาห์เวห์ทำให้พวกเขากระจัดกระจายไปทั่วแผ่นดิน
9Therefore was the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth; and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

10These are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begot Arpachshad two years after the flood.
11หลังจากมีอาร์ปัคชัดแล้วเชมมีชีวิตอยู่อีก 500 ปีและมีลูกชายลูกสาวอีก
11And Shem lived after he begot Arpachshad five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
12เมื่ออาร์ปัคชัดอายุ 35 ปีเขามีลูกชายชื่อเชลาห์
12And Arpachshad lived five and thirty years, and begot Shelah.
13หลังจากมีเชลาห์แล้วอาร์ปัคชัดมีชีวิตอยู่อีก 403 ปีและมีลูกชายลูกสาวอีก
13And Arpachshad lived after he begot Shelah four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.
14เมื่อเชลาห์อายุ 30 ปีเขามีลูกชายชื่อเอเบอร์
14And Shelah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.
15หลังจากมีเอเบอร์แล้วเชลาห์มีชีวิตอยู่อีก 403 ปีและมีลูกชายลูกสาวอีก
15And Shelah lived after he begot Eber four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.
16เมื่อเอเบอร์อายุ 34 ปีเขามีลูกชายชื่อเปเลก
16And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begot Peleg.
17หลังจากมีเปเลกแล้วเอเบอร์มีชีวิตอยู่อีก 430 ปีและมีลูกชายลูกสาวอีก
17And Eber lived after he begot Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters.
18เมื่อเปเลกอายุ 30 ปีเขามีลูกชายชื่อเรอู
18And Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.
19หลังจากมีเรอูแล้วเปเลกมีชีวิตอยู่อีก 209 ปีและมีลูกชายลูกสาวอีก
19And Peleg lived after he begot Reu two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.
20เมื่อเรอูอายุ 32 ปีเขามีลูกชายชื่อเสรุก
20And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begot Serug.
21หลังจากมีเสรุกแล้วเรอูมีชีวิตอยู่อีก 207 ปีและมีลูกชายลูกสาวอีก
21And Reu lived after he begot Serug two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.
22เมื่อเสรุกอายุ 30 ปีเขามีลูกชายชื่อนาโฮร์
22And Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.
23หลังจากมีนาโฮร์แล้วเสรุกมีชีวิตอยู่อีก 200 ปีและมีลูกชายลูกสาวอีก
23And Serug lived after he begot Nahor two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
24เมื่อนาโฮร์อายุ 29 ปีเขามีลูกชายชื่อเทราห์
24And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begot Terah.
25หลังจากมีเทราห์แล้วนาโฮร์มีชีวิตอยู่อีก 119 ปีและมีลูกชายลูกสาวอีก
25And Nahor lived after he begot Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and begot sons and daughters.
26เมื่อเทราห์อายุ 70 ปีเขามีลูกชายคืออับราม, นาโฮร์ และฮาราน
26And Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27นี่คือเรื่องราวความเป็นมาของเทราห์ เทราห์มีลูกชายคืออับราม, นาโฮร์ และฮาราน ฮารานมีลูกชายชื่อโลท
27Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begot Lot.
28ฮารานตายในดินแดนที่เขาเกิด คืออูร์แห่งชาวเคลเดีย ตอนนั้นเทราห์พ่อของเขายังมีชีวิตอยู่
28And Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29อับรามกับนาโฮร์ต่างก็แต่งงาน ภรรยาของอับรามชื่อซาราย ส่วนภรรยาของนาโฮร์ชื่อมิลคาห์ นางเป็นลูกสาวของฮาราน และฮารานก็เป็นพ่อของอิสคาห์ด้วย
29And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30ซารายเป็นหมันและไม่มีลูก
30And Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31เทราห์พาอับรามลูกชายของตน พร้อมโลทหลานชายซึ่งเป็นลูกของฮาราน และซารายลูกสะใภ้ซึ่งเป็นภรรยาของอับราม ออกจากอูร์แห่งชาวเคลเดียเพื่อไปยังดินแดนคานาอัน พวกเขาเดินทางมาถึงฮาราน และอาศัยอยู่ที่นั่น
31And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
32เทราห์มีอายุ 205 ปีแล้วเขาก็ตายที่ฮาราน
32And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.
