1จากนั้นยาโคบเดินทางต่อไปจนถึงดินแดนของชาวตะวันออก
1Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the children of the east.
2เขามองเห็นบ่อน้ำแห่งหนึ่งกลางทุ่งมีฝูงแกะสามฝูงนอนอยู่ข้างบ่อเพราะคนเลี้ยงสัตว์ใช้น้ำจากบ่อนั้นให้ฝูงแกะดื่มก้อนหินที่ปิดปากบ่อมีขนาดใหญ่
2And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, three flocks of sheep lying there by it. — For out of that well they watered the flocks. And the stone upon the well's mouth was great.
3เมื่อฝูงแกะทั้งหมดมารวมกันคนเลี้ยงสัตว์จึงกลิ้งก้อนหินออกจากปากบ่อให้น้ำแกะดื่มแล้วกลิ้งก้อนหินกลับมาปิดไว้ตามเดิม
3And thither were all the flocks gathered; and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone back upon the well's mouth in its place. —
4ยาโคบถามพวกเขาว่า“พวกท่านมาจากไหน” พวกเขาตอบว่า“มาจากฮาราน”
4And Jacob said unto them: 'My brethren, whence are ye?' And they said: 'Of Haran are we.'
5เขาถามว่า“พวกท่านรู้จักลาบันลูกชายของนาโฮร์ไหม” พวกเขาตอบว่า“รู้จัก”
5And he said unto them: 'Know ye Laban the son of Nahor?' And they said: 'We know him.'
6ยาโคบถามว่า“เขาสบายดีไหม” พวกเขาตอบว่า“สบายดีนั่นไงราเชลลูกสาวของเขากำลังมากับฝูงแกะ”
6And he said unto them: 'Is it well with him?' And they said: 'It is well; and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.'
7ยาโคบพูดว่า“ตอนนี้ยังกลางวันอยู่ยังไม่ถึงเวลารวมฝูงสัตว์ให้น้ำแกะดื่มแล้วพาไปกินหญ้าต่อเถอะ”
7And he said: 'Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together; water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.'
8พวกเขาตอบว่า“ทำไม่ได้จนกว่าฝูงทั้งหมดจะมารวมกันและมีคนกลิ้งก้อนหินออกจากปากบ่อแล้วพวกเราถึงจะให้น้ำแกะดื่มได้”
8And they said: 'We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.'
9ขณะที่ยาโคบยังพูดกับพวกเขาราเชลก็มาถึงพร้อมฝูงแกะของพ่อเพราะเธอเป็นคนเลี้ยงแกะ
9While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep; for she tended them.
10เมื่อยาโคบเห็นราเชลลูกสาวของลาบันซึ่งเป็นพี่น้องกับแม่ของเขาและเห็นฝูงแกะของลาบันยาโคบก็เข้าไปกลิ้งก้อนหินออกจากปากบ่อแล้วให้น้ำฝูงแกะของลาบันดื่ม
10And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.
11ยาโคบจูบราเชลแล้วร้องไห้ออกมาเสียงดัง
11And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
12เขาบอกราเชลว่าตนเป็นญาติของพ่อเธอและเป็นลูกชายของเรเบคาห์ราเชลจึงวิ่งไปบอกพ่อ
12And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother, and that he was Rebekah's son; and she ran and told her father.
13เมื่อลาบันได้ข่าวเรื่องยาโคบลูกชายของเรเบคาห์ซึ่งเป็นพี่น้องกับเขาเขาก็วิ่งออกไปรับกอดและจูบยาโคบแล้วพาเข้าบ้านยาโคบเล่าเรื่องทั้งหมดให้ลาบันฟัง
13And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.
14ลาบันพูดว่า“เจ้าเป็นเลือดเนื้อของฉันจริงๆ”ยาโคบจึงอยู่กับเขาหนึ่งเดือน
14And Laban said to him: 'Surely thou art my bone and my flesh.' And he abode with him the space of a month.
15ต่อมาลาบันพูดกับยาโคบว่า“ถึงเจ้าเป็นญาติของฉันก็ไม่ควรรับใช้ฉันเปล่าๆบอกมาสิว่าอยากได้ค่าจ้างเท่าไร”
15And Laban said unto Jacob: 'Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?'
16ลาบันมีลูกสาวสองคนคนพี่ชื่อเลอาห์คนน้องชื่อราเชล
16Now Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
17ดวงตาของเลอาห์อ่อนแต่ราเชลมีรูปร่างงดงามและหน้าตาสวย
17And Leah's eyes were weak; but Rachel was of beautiful form and fair to look upon.
18ยาโคบรักราเชลเขาจึงพูดว่า“ผมจะรับใช้ท่านเจ็ดปีเพื่อแลกกับราเชลลูกสาวคนเล็กของท่าน”
18And Jacob loved Rachel; and he said: 'I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.'
19ลาบันตอบว่า“ยกเธอให้เจ้าก็ดีกว่ายกให้ชายอื่นอยู่กับฉันนี่แหละ”
19And Laban said: 'It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man; abide with me.'
20ยาโคบรับใช้เจ็ดปีเพื่อราเชลแต่เพราะรักเธอเจ็ดปีนั้นจึงเหมือนเพียงไม่กี่วันสำหรับเขา
20And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.
21จากนั้นยาโคบพูดกับลาบันว่า“ถึงกำหนดแล้วขอให้ราเชลมาเป็นภรรยาของผมผมจะได้หลับนอนกับเธอ”
21And Jacob said unto Laban: 'Give me my wife, for my days are filled, that I may go in unto her.'
22ลาบันจึงเรียกชายทุกคนในที่นั้นมารวมกันและจัดงานเลี้ยง
22And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.
23พอตกเย็นเขาพาเลอาห์ลูกสาวเข้าไปหายาโคบแล้วยาโคบก็หลับนอนกับเธอ
23And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.
24ลาบันยกศิลปาห์ทาสหญิงของตนให้เลอาห์ลูกสาวเป็นทาสหญิง
24And Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid unto his daughter Leah for a handmaid.
25พอถึงเช้าปรากฏว่าเป็นเลอาห์!ยาโคบจึงพูดกับลาบันว่า“ท่านทำอะไรกับผมนี่ผมรับใช้ท่านเพื่อราเชลไม่ใช่หรือแล้วทำไมถึงหลอกผม”
25And it came to pass in the morning that, behold, it was Leah; and he said to Laban: 'What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?'
26ลาบันตอบว่า“ธรรมเนียมของที่นี่ไม่ให้ยกลูกสาวคนเล็กก่อนลูกสาวคนโต
26And Laban said: 'It is not so done in our place, to give the younger before the first-born.
27อยู่ให้ครบสัปดาห์แต่งงานของคนนี้ก่อนแล้วฉันจะยกอีกคนให้เจ้าด้วยแลกกับการที่เจ้าจะรับใช้ฉันอีกเจ็ดปี”
27Fulfil the week of this one, and we will give thee the other also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.'
28ยาโคบก็ทำตามและอยู่จนครบสัปดาห์ของเลอาห์แล้วลาบันก็ยกราเชลลูกสาวให้เป็นภรรยาของยาโคบ
28And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week; and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife.
29ลาบันยกบิลฮาห์ทาสหญิงของตนให้ราเชลลูกสาวเป็นทาสหญิง
29And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her handmaid.
30ยาโคบหลับนอนกับราเชลด้วยเขารักราเชลมากกว่าเลอาห์และรับใช้ลาบันต่ออีกเจ็ดปี
30And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.
31พระยาห์เวห์เห็นว่าเลอาห์ถูกเกลียดจึงเปิดครรภ์ของเธอส่วนราเชลเป็นหมัน
31And the LORD saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.
32เลอาห์ตั้งครรภ์และคลอดลูกชายตั้งชื่อว่ารูเบนเพราะเธอพูดว่า“พระยาห์เวห์มองเห็นความทุกข์ของฉันแล้วตอนนี้สามีคงจะรักฉัน”
32And Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said: 'Because the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.'
33เธอตั้งครรภ์อีกและคลอดลูกชายแล้วพูดว่า“พระยาห์เวห์ได้ยินว่าฉันถูกเกลียดจึงให้ลูกคนนี้แก่ฉันด้วย”เธอตั้งชื่อเขาว่าสิเมโอน
33And she conceived again, and bore a son; and said: 'Because the LORD hath heard that I am hated, He hath therefore given me this son also.' And she called his name Simeon.
34เธอตั้งครรภ์อีกและคลอดลูกชายแล้วพูดว่า“ครั้งนี้สามีจะผูกพันกับฉันเพราะฉันคลอดลูกชายให้เขาสามคนแล้ว”เขาจึงได้ชื่อว่าเลวี
34And she conceived again, and bore a son; and said: 'Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have borne him three sons.' Therefore was his name called Levi.
35เธอตั้งครรภ์อีกและคลอดลูกชายแล้วพูดว่า“ครั้งนี้ฉันจะสรรเสริญพระยาห์เวห์”เธอจึงตั้งชื่อเขาว่ายูดาห์แล้วก็หยุดมีลูก
35And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she said: 'This time will I praise the LORD.' Therefore she called his name Judah; and she left off bearing.
