1ฟ้า แผ่นดิน และสรรพสิ่งที่อยู่ในนั้นก็เสร็จสมบูรณ์
1And the heaven and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2เมื่อถึงวันที่เจ็ด พระเจ้าทำงานของพระองค์จนเสร็จ แล้วในวันนั้นพระองค์ก็หยุดพักจากงานทั้งหมดที่ได้ทำมา
2And on the seventh day God finished His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.
3พระเจ้าอวยพรวันที่เจ็ดและตั้งวันนั้นไว้เป็นวันศักดิ์สิทธิ์ เพราะเป็นวันที่พระองค์หยุดพักจากงานสร้างทั้งหมดที่ได้ทำไว้
3And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it; because that in it He rested from all His work which God in creating had made.
4นี่คือเรื่องราวความเป็นมาของฟ้าและแผ่นดินเมื่อครั้งถูกสร้างขึ้น เมื่อพระเจ้ายาห์เวห์ ทำแผ่นดินและฟ้าขึ้น
4These are the generations of the heaven and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made earth and heaven.
5เวลานั้นยังไม่มีพืชในทุ่งชนิดใดขึ้นบนแผ่นดิน และยังไม่มีพืชพันธุ์ในทุ่งงอกขึ้นมา เพราะพระเจ้ายาห์เวห์ยังไม่ได้ให้ฝนตกบนแผ่นดิน และยังไม่มีมนุษย์เพาะปลูกดิน
5No shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground;
6แต่มีไอน้ำลอยขึ้นจากแผ่นดินและทำให้ผิวดินทั้งหมดชุ่มชื้น
6but there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
7พระเจ้ายาห์เวห์ปั้นมนุษย์จากฝุ่นดิน แล้วเป่าลมหายใจแห่งชีวิตเข้าในจมูกของเขา มนุษย์จึงกลายเป็นผู้มีชีวิต
7Then the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
8พระเจ้ายาห์เวห์ปลูกสวนแห่งหนึ่งทางทิศตะวันออกในเอเดน แล้วให้มนุษย์ที่พระองค์ปั้นไว้มาอยู่ที่นั่น
8And the LORD God planted a garden eastward, in Eden; and there He put the man whom He had formed.
9พระเจ้ายาห์เวห์ทำให้ต้นไม้ทุกชนิดงอกขึ้นจากดิน ทั้งที่งดงามน่ามองและให้ผลเป็นอาหารได้ กลางสวนมีต้นไม้แห่งชีวิต และต้นไม้แห่งความรู้เรื่องดีและชั่ว
9And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10มีแม่น้ำสายหนึ่งไหลออกจากเอเดนเพื่อรดสวน จากที่นั่นแม่น้ำก็แยกออกเป็นสี่สาย
10And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became four heads.
11แม่น้ำสายแรกชื่อพิโชน ไหลผ่านทั่วดินแดนฮาวิลาห์ ที่นั่นมีทองคำ
11The name of the first is Pishon; that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
12ทองคำในดินแดนนั้นเป็นทองคำเนื้อดี ที่นั่นยังมีเบดเดลเลียม และหินโอนิกซ์
12and the gold of that land is good; there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
13แม่น้ำสายที่สองชื่อกิโฮน เป็นสายที่ไหลผ่านทั่วดินแดนคูช
13And the name of the second river is Gihon; the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Cush.
14แม่น้ำสายที่สามชื่อฮิดเดเคล ไหลผ่านด้านหน้าของอัสซีเรีย ส่วนแม่น้ำสายที่สี่คือยูเฟรทีส
14And the name of the third river is Tigris; that is it which goeth toward the east of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
15พระเจ้ายาห์เวห์นำมนุษย์ไปอยู่ในสวนเอเดน ให้เพาะปลูกและดูแลสวน
15And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
16พระเจ้ายาห์เวห์สั่งมนุษย์ว่า “เจ้ากินผลจากต้นไม้ทุกต้นในสวนได้ตามต้องการ
16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying: 'Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat;
17แต่ห้ามกินผลจากต้นไม้แห่งความรู้เรื่องดีและชั่ว เพราะวันที่เจ้ากินผลจากต้นนั้น เจ้าจะตายแน่”
17but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.'
18พระเจ้ายาห์เวห์กล่าวว่า “มนุษย์อยู่คนเดียวไม่ดี เราจะสร้างผู้ช่วยที่เหมาะกับเขา”
18And the LORD God said: 'It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.'
19พระเจ้ายาห์เวห์ปั้นสัตว์ในทุ่งทุกชนิดและนกบนท้องฟ้าทุกชนิดจากดิน แล้วพามาหามนุษย์เพื่อดูว่าเขาจะเรียกพวกมันว่าอะไร มนุษย์ตั้งชื่อให้สิ่งมีชีวิตแต่ละตัวว่าอย่างไร มันก็ได้ชื่อนั้น
19And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto the man to see what he would call them; and whatsoever the man would call every living creature, that was to be the name thereof.
20มนุษย์ตั้งชื่อให้ปศุสัตว์ทั้งหมด นกบนท้องฟ้า และสัตว์ในทุ่งทุกชนิด แต่ยังไม่พบผู้ช่วยที่เหมาะกับเขา
20And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a help meet for him.
21พระเจ้ายาห์เวห์ทำให้มนุษย์หลับสนิท ขณะที่เขาหลับ พระองค์เอากระดูกซี่โครงซี่หนึ่งออก แล้วปิดรอยนั้นด้วยเนื้อ
21And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the place with flesh instead thereof.
22พระเจ้ายาห์เวห์เอาซี่โครงนั้นมาสร้างเป็นผู้หญิง แล้วพาเธอมาหาชายคนนั้น
22And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from the man, made He a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23ชายคนนั้นกล่าวว่า “นี่แหละ กระดูกจากกระดูกของฉัน และเนื้อจากเนื้อของฉัน เธอจะได้ชื่อว่า ‘หญิง’ เพราะเธอมาจาก ‘ชาย’”
23And the man said: 'This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.'
24เพราะเหตุนี้ ชายคนหนึ่งจะจากพ่อและแม่ไปผูกพันกับภรรยาของเขา และทั้งสองจะเป็นเนื้อเดียวกัน
24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh.
25ชายกับภรรยาต่างก็เปลือยกาย แต่ไม่รู้สึกอาย
25And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
