1เกิดความอดอยากในดินแดนอีกครั้ง นอกเหนือจากความอดอยากครั้งก่อนในสมัยอับราฮัม อิสอัคจึงไปหาอาบีเมเลคกษัตริย์ของชาวฟีลิสเตียที่เกราร์
1And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.
2พระยาห์เวห์ปรากฏแก่อิสอัคและกล่าวว่า“อย่าลงไปอียิปต์ให้อาศัยอยู่ในดินแดนที่เราจะบอกเจ้า
2And the LORD appeared unto him, and said: 'Go not down unto Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of.
3พักอาศัยเป็นคนต่างถิ่นในดินแดนนี้เราจะอยู่กับเจ้าและอวยพรเจ้าเราจะมอบดินแดนเหล่านี้ทั้งหมดให้เจ้าและลูกหลานของเจ้าและจะรักษาคำสาบานที่เราให้ไว้กับอับราฮัมพ่อของเจ้า
3Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore unto Abraham thy father;
4เราจะให้ลูกหลานของเจ้ามากเหมือนดาวบนท้องฟ้าและจะมอบดินแดนเหล่านี้ทั้งหมดให้ลูกหลานของเจ้าทุกชนชาติบนแผ่นดินจะได้รับพรผ่านทางลูกหลานของเจ้า
4and I will multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these lands; and by thy seed shall all the nations of the earth bless themselves;
5เพราะอับราฮัมเชื่อฟังเสียงของเราและรักษาข้อกำหนดคำสั่งกฎเกณฑ์และกฎหมายของเรา”
5because that Abraham hearkened to My voice, and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.'
6อิสอัคจึงอาศัยอยู่ที่เกราร์
6And Isaac dwelt in Gerar.
7คนในที่นั้นถามอิสอัคเรื่องภรรยาเขาตอบว่า“เราสองคนเป็นพี่น้องกัน”เขาไม่กล้าบอกว่า“นางเป็นภรรยาของผม”เพราะคิดว่า“คนที่นี่อาจฆ่าผมเพราะเรเบคาห์นางสวยมาก”
7And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said: 'She is my sister'; for he feared to say: 'My wife'; 'lest the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah, because she is fair to look upon.'
8เมื่ออิสอัคอยู่ที่นั่นมานานอาบีเมเลคกษัตริย์ของชาวฟีลิสเตียมองออกไปทางหน้าต่างแล้วเห็นอิสอัคกำลังคลอเคลียกับเรเบคาห์ภรรยาของเขา
8And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.
9อาบีเมเลคเรียกอิสอัคมาและพูดว่า“เห็นชัดว่านางเป็นภรรยาของเจ้าแล้วทำไมเจ้าถึงบอกว่า‘เราเป็นพี่น้องกัน’” อิสอัคตอบว่า“เพราะผมคิดว่าอาจถูกฆ่าตายเพราะเธอ”
9And Abimelech called Isaac, and said: 'Behold, of a surety she is thy wife; and how saidst thou: She is my sister?' And Isaac said unto him: 'Because I said: Lest I die because of her.'
10อาบีเมเลคพูดว่า“เจ้าทำอะไรกับพวกเรานี่คนใดคนหนึ่งอาจเผลอหลับนอนกับภรรยาของเจ้าแล้วเจ้าจะทำให้พวกเรามีความผิด!”
10And Abimelech said: 'What is this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might easily have lain with thy wife, and thou wouldest have brought guiltiness upon us.'
11อาบีเมเลคจึงสั่งประชาชนทั้งหมดว่า“ใครแตะต้องชายคนนี้หรือภรรยาของเขาจะต้องถูกประหารชีวิต”
11And Abimelech charged all the people, saying: 'He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.'
12อิสอัคหว่านพืชในดินแดนนั้นและในปีเดียวกันเก็บเกี่ยวได้ร้อยเท่าของที่หว่านพระยาห์เวห์อวยพรเขา
12And Isaac sowed in that land, and found in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him.
13เขาจึงมั่งคั่งขึ้นเรื่อยๆจนร่ำรวยอย่างยิ่ง
13And the man waxed great, and grew more and more until he became very great.
14เขามีฝูงแกะฝูงแพะฝูงโคและคนในเรือนเป็นจำนวนมากชาวฟีลิสเตียจึงอิจฉาเขา
14And he had possessions of flocks, and possessions of herds, and a great household; and the Philistines envied him.
15บ่อน้ำทุกบ่อที่คนรับใช้ของอับราฮัมพ่อของเขาเคยขุดไว้ชาวฟีลิสเตียเอาดินถมปิดเสียหมด
15Now all the wells which his father's servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.
16อาบีเมเลคพูดกับอิสอัคว่า“ไปจากพวกเราเสียเพราะเจ้าแข็งแกร่งกว่าพวกเรามากแล้ว”
16And Abimelech said unto Isaac: 'Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.'
17อิสอัคจึงออกจากที่นั่นไปตั้งค่ายในหุบเขาเกราร์และอาศัยอยู่ที่นั่น
17And Isaac departed thence, and encamped in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
18อิสอัคขุดบ่อน้ำที่เคยขุดในสมัยอับราฮัมพ่อของเขาขึ้นใหม่เพราะหลังอับราฮัมตายชาวฟีลิสเตียได้ถมบ่อเหล่านั้นไว้แล้วอิสอัคก็เรียกบ่อตามชื่อเดิมที่พ่อเคยตั้งไว้
18And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham; and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
19คนรับใช้ของอิสอัคขุดในหุบเขาและพบบ่อน้ำที่มีน้ำไหล
19And Isaac's servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of living water.
20คนเลี้ยงสัตว์ของเกราร์ทะเลาะกับคนเลี้ยงสัตว์ของอิสอัคว่า“น้ำนี้เป็นของพวกเรา”อิสอัคจึงตั้งชื่อบ่อนั้นว่าเอเสกเพราะพวกเขาโต้แย้งกับเขา
20And the herdmen of Gerar strove with Isaac's herdmen, saying: 'The water is ours.' And he called the name of the well Esek; because they contended with him.
21พวกเขาขุดอีกบ่อหนึ่งแต่ก็ถูกโต้แย้งเรื่องบ่อนั้นด้วยอิสอัคจึงตั้งชื่อว่าสิตนาห์
21And they digged another well, and they strove for that also. And he called the name of it Sitnah.
22เขาย้ายจากที่นั่นไปขุดอีกบ่อหนึ่งคราวนี้ไม่มีใครมาโต้แย้งเขาจึงตั้งชื่อว่าเรโหโบทแล้วกล่าวว่า“ตอนนี้พระยาห์เวห์เปิดที่ให้พวกเราแล้วเราจะเจริญเพิ่มพูนในดินแดนนี้”
22And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not. And he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said: 'For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.'
23จากที่นั่นอิสอัคขึ้นไปเบเออร์เชบา
23And he went up from thence to Beer-sheba.
24คืนนั้นพระยาห์เวห์ปรากฏแก่เขาและกล่าวว่า“เราเป็นพระเจ้าของอับราฮัมพ่อของเจ้าอย่ากลัวเลยเพราะเราอยู่กับเจ้าเราจะอวยพรเจ้าและทำให้ลูกหลานของเจ้ามากขึ้นเพราะเห็นแก่อับราฮัมคนรับใช้ของเรา”
24And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said: 'I am the God of Abraham thy father. Fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for My servant Abraham's sake.'
25อิสอัคสร้างแท่นบูชาที่นั่นและร้องเรียกพระนามของพระยาห์เวห์แล้วกางเต็นท์อยู่ที่นั่นคนรับใช้ของเขาขุดบ่อน้ำที่นั่น
25And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there; and there Isaac's servants digged a well.
26ต่อมาอาบีเมเลคเดินทางจากเกราร์มาหาอิสอัคพร้อมอาหุสซัทเพื่อนของเขาและฟีโคลผู้บัญชาการกองทัพ
26Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol the captain of his host.

27And Isaac said unto them: 'Wherefore are ye come unto me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you?'
28พวกเขาตอบว่า“พวกเราเห็นชัดว่าพระยาห์เวห์อยู่กับท่านจึงคิดว่าควรมีคำสาบานระหว่างเรากับท่านและทำพันธสัญญากับท่าน
28And they said: 'We saw plainly that the LORD was with thee; and we said: Let there now be an oath betwixt us, even betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;
29ว่าท่านจะไม่ทำร้ายพวกเราเหมือนที่พวกเราไม่เคยแตะต้องท่านและทำแต่สิ่งดีแก่ท่านแล้วส่งท่านไปอย่างสงบตอนนี้ท่านเป็นผู้ที่พระยาห์เวห์อวยพร”
29that thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace; thou art now the blessed of the LORD.'
30อิสอัคจัดงานเลี้ยงให้พวกเขาแล้วพวกเขาก็กินและดื่ม
30And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.
31เช้าตรู่พวกเขาลุกขึ้นและสาบานต่อกันอิสอัคส่งพวกเขากลับไปและพวกเขาจากเขาไปอย่างสงบ
31And they rose up betimes in the morning, and swore one to another; and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

32And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him: 'We have found water.'
33เขาตั้งชื่อบ่อนั้นว่า“ชิบาห์”ดังนั้นเมืองนั้นจึงมีชื่อว่า“เบเออร์เชบา”จนถึงทุกวันนี้
33And he called it Shibah. Therefore the name of the city is Beer-sheba unto this day.
34เมื่อเอซาวอายุ 40 ปีเขาแต่งงานกับยูดิธลูกสาวของเบเอรีชาวฮิตไทต์และบาเสมัทลูกสาวของเอโลนชาวฮิตไทต์
34And when Esau was forty years old, he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite.
35ผู้หญิงทั้งสองทำให้อิสอัคกับเรเบคาห์ขมขื่นใจ
35And they were a bitterness of spirit unto Isaac and to Rebekah.
