1わが子よ、もし私の言葉を受け入れ、 私の命令を心のうちに蓄え、
1My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and lay up my commandments with thee;
2知恵に耳を傾け、 悟りに心を向けるなら、
2So that thou make thine ear attend unto wisdom, and thy heart incline to discernment;
3そうだ、識別力を求めて呼び、 悟りを求めて声を上げ、
3Yea, if thou call for understanding, and lift up thy voice for discernment;
4銀のように知恵を求め、 隠された宝のように探すなら、
4If thou seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures;
5そのとき、あなたは主を恐れることを悟り、 神を知るに至る。
5Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
6主が知恵を与える。 その口から知識と悟りが出る。
6For the LORD giveth wisdom, out of His mouth cometh knowledge and discernment;
7主は正しい者のために確かな知恵を蓄え、 誠実に歩む者の盾となる。
7He layeth up sound wisdom for the upright, He is a shield to them that walk in integrity;
8公正の道を守り、 ご自分に忠実な者たちの道を保たれる。
8That He may guard the paths of justice, and preserve the way of His godly ones.
9そのとき、あなたは義と公正、 公平とあらゆる良い道を悟る。
9Then shalt thou understand righteousness and justice, and equity, yea, every good path.
10知恵があなたの心に入り、 知識はあなたに喜びとなる。
10For wisdom shall enter into thy heart, and knowledge shall be pleasant unto thy soul;
11慎重さがあなたを見守り、 悟りがあなたを守る。
11Discretion shall watch over thee, discernment shall guard thee;
12それらはあなたを悪の道から、 曲がったことを語る人々から救い出す。
12To deliver thee from the way of evil, from the men that speak froward things;
13彼らは正しい道を捨て、 闇の道を歩む。
13Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
14悪を行うことを喜び、 悪のよこしまさを楽しむ。
14Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of evil;
15彼らの道は曲がっており、 その歩みは正道からそれている。
15Who are crooked in their ways, and perverse in their paths;
16また知恵は、あなたをよその女から、 甘い言葉でへつらう見知らぬ女から救い出す。
16To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the alien woman that maketh smooth her words;
17彼女は若いころからの夫を捨て、 自分の神との契約を忘れている。
17That forsaketh the lord of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
18彼女の家は死へと下り、 その道は死者の霊へと至る。
18For her house sinketh down unto death, and her paths unto the shades;
19彼女のもとへ行く者は誰も戻らず、 命の道にたどり着くこともない。
19None that go unto her return, neither do they attain unto the paths of life;
20それゆえ、善良な者たちの道を歩み、 義人たちの道を守れ。
20That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
21正しい者はその地に住み、 潔白な者はそこにとどまる。
21For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the whole-hearted shall remain in it.
22しかし、悪しき者はその地から断ち切られ、 裏切る者はそこから根こそぎにされる。
22But the wicked shall be cut off from the land, and the faithless shall be plucked up out of it.
