1ツロの王ヒラムは、使者とともに香柏の材木、石工、大工をダビデのもとへ送り、彼のために家を建てさせた。
1And Huram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar-trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.
2ダビデは、主が自分をイスラエルの王として堅く立たせられたこと、また御民イスラエルのためにその王権を大いに高められたことを知った。
2And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, for his kingdom was exalted exceedingly, for His people Israel's sake.
3ダビデはエルサレムでさらに妻を迎え、多くの息子と娘をもうけた。
3And David took more wives at Jerusalem; and David begot more sons and daughters.
4エルサレムで彼に生まれた子どもたちの名は次のとおりである。シャムア、ショバブ、ナタン、ソロモン、
4And these are the names of the children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon;
5イブハル、エリシュア、エルペレテ、
5and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet;
6ノガ、ネフェグ、ヤフィア、
6and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia;
7エリシャマ、ベエルヤダ、エリフェレテ。
7and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
8ペリシテ人は、ダビデが全イスラエルの王として油注がれたことを聞いた。ペリシテ人は総出でダビデを攻めようと上って来た。ダビデはそれを聞いて、彼らに立ち向かうために出て行った。
8And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went out to meet them.
9ペリシテ人はやって来て、レファイムの谷に襲いかかった。
9Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.
10ダビデは神に尋ね求めて言った。「ペリシテ人のところに攻め上るべきでしょうか。あなたは彼らを私の手に渡してくださいますか。」 主は彼に言われた。「上れ。わたしは彼らをあなたの手に渡す。」
10And David inquired of God, saying: 'Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt Thou deliver them into my hand?' And the LORD said unto him: 'Go up; for I will deliver them into thy hand.'
11彼らがバアル・ペラツィムに上って来ると、ダビデはそこで彼らを打ち破り、こう言った。「水が堤を破るように、神は私の手によって敵を打ち破られた。」それゆえ、彼らはその場所の名をバアル・ペラツィム と呼んだ。
11So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there; and David said: 'God hath broken mine enemies by my hand, like the breach of waters.' Therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.
12ペリシテ人がそこに自分たちの神々を置き去りにしたので、ダビデは命じて、それらを火で焼かせた。
12And they left their gods there; and David gave commandment, and they were burned with fire.
13ペリシテ人は再びその谷に襲いかかった。
13And the Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.
14ダビデが再び神に尋ね求めると、神は彼に言われた。「彼らの後を追って上ってはならない。回り込んで、桑の木々の前から彼らに向かえ。
14And David inquired again of God; and God said unto him: 'Thou shalt not go up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry-trees.
15桑の木々の梢で、行進の音が聞こえたなら、そのとき戦いに出なさい。神がペリシテ人の軍勢を打つために、あなたの前を進み出たからである。」
15And it shall be, when thou hearest the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry-trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle; for God is gone out before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.'
16ダビデは神が命じられたとおりに行い、ギベオンからゲゼルに至るまでペリシテ人の軍勢を打ち破った。
16And David did as God commanded him; and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.
17ダビデの名はすべての国々に広まり、主はすべての国々に彼に対する恐れをもたらされた。
17And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
