1เนื่องจากมีหลายคนได้ลงมือเรียบเรียงเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับเหตุการณ์ต่าง ๆ ที่ได้สำเร็จเป็นจริงท่ามกลางพวกเรา
1Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
2ตามที่บรรดาผู้ซึ่งเป็นพยานเห็นเหตุการณ์ด้วยตาตนเองตั้งแต่แรก และเป็นผู้รับใช้พระวจนะ ได้ถ่ายทอดเรื่องเหล่านั้นแก่พวกเรา
2Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
3ข้าพเจ้าเองก็เห็นควรที่จะเขียนเรื่องเหล่านี้เรียงตามลำดับให้ท่านเช่นกัน ท่านเธโอฟีลัสผู้ทรงเกียรติ เพราะข้าพเจ้าได้ติดตามตรวจสอบทุกสิ่งอย่างละเอียดตั้งแต่ต้น
3It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
4เพื่อท่านจะได้มั่นใจในเรื่องต่าง ๆ ที่ท่านได้รับคำสอนมา
4That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
5ในสมัยของเฮโรด กษัตริย์แห่งยูเดีย มีปุโรหิตคนหนึ่งชื่อเศคาริยาห์ อยู่ในเวรปุโรหิตของอาบียาห์ ภรรยาของเขาเป็นเชื้อสายของอาโรน และชื่อเอลีซาเบธ
5¶ There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judæa, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
6ทั้งสองเป็นคนชอบธรรมต่อหน้าพระเจ้า และดำเนินชีวิตอย่างไม่มีที่ติตามบัญญัติและข้อกำหนดทุกอย่างขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า
6And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
7แต่พวกเขาไม่มีลูก เพราะเอลีซาเบธเป็นหมัน และทั้งสองก็มีอายุมากแล้ว
7And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.
8ขณะที่เศคาริยาห์กำลังทำหน้าที่ปุโรหิตต่อหน้าพระเจ้าตามเวรของตน
8And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course,

9According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
10ขณะเผาเครื่องหอม ประชาชนทั้งหมดกำลังอธิษฐานอยู่ข้างนอก
10And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.
11แล้วทูตสวรรค์องค์หนึ่งขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าก็ปรากฏแก่เขา ยืนอยู่ทางขวาของแท่นเผาเครื่องหอม
11And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12เมื่อเศคาริยาห์เห็นทูตสวรรค์ เขาก็ตกใจและเต็มไปด้วยความกลัว
12And when Zacharias saw him , he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
13แต่ทูตสวรรค์กล่าวกับเขาว่า “อย่ากลัวเลย เศคาริยาห์ เพราะพระเจ้าได้ยินคำขอของท่านแล้ว เอลีซาเบธภรรยาของท่านจะให้กำเนิดบุตรชายแก่ท่าน และจงตั้งชื่อเขาว่า ยอห์น
13But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
14ท่านจะมีความยินดีและความชื่นชมยินดี และคนมากมายจะชื่นชมยินดีเมื่อเขาเกิด
14And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
15เพราะเขาจะเป็นผู้ยิ่งใหญ่ในสายตาขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า เขาจะไม่ดื่มเหล้าองุ่นหรือสุรา และจะเต็มเปี่ยมด้วยพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ตั้งแต่อยู่ในครรภ์มารดา
15For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.
16เขาจะทำให้ลูกหลานอิสราเอลจำนวนมากหันกลับมาหาองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระเจ้าของพวกเขา
16And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
17เขาจะนำหน้าพระองค์ไปด้วยจิตวิญญาณและพลังของเอลียาห์ ‘เพื่อทำให้ใจของบิดาหันกลับมาหาลูก ๆ’ และทำให้คนที่ไม่เชื่อฟังหันมาหาปัญญาของคนชอบธรรม เพื่อเตรียมประชาชนให้พร้อมสำหรับองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า”
17And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
18เศคาริยาห์กล่าวกับทูตสวรรค์ว่า “ข้าพเจ้าจะแน่ใจเรื่องนี้ได้อย่างไร? เพราะข้าพเจ้าเป็นคนแก่แล้ว และภรรยาของข้าพเจ้าก็มีอายุมากแล้ว”
18And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
19ทูตสวรรค์ตอบเขาว่า “เราคือกาเบรียล ผู้ยืนอยู่ต่อหน้าพระเจ้า เราถูกส่งมาเพื่อพูดกับท่าน และนำข่าวดีนี้มาบอกท่าน
19And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
20จงดู ท่านจะเป็นใบ้ พูดไม่ได้ จนถึงวันที่สิ่งเหล่านี้เกิดขึ้น เพราะท่านไม่เชื่อคำของเรา ซึ่งจะสำเร็จตามเวลาที่กำหนด”
20And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
21ประชาชนกำลังรอเศคาริยาห์ และประหลาดใจที่เขาอยู่ในพระวิหารนาน
21And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.
22เมื่อเขาออกมา เขาพูดกับพวกเขาไม่ได้ พวกเขาจึงรู้ว่าเขาได้เห็นนิมิตในพระวิหาร เขาทำมือเป็นสัญญาณแก่พวกเขาต่อไป และยังคงเป็นใบ้
22And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.

23And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.

24And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
25“องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทำเช่นนี้แก่ข้าพเจ้าในเวลาที่พระองค์หันมามองข้าพเจ้า เพื่อขจัดความอับอายของข้าพเจ้าท่ามกลางผู้คน”
25Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me , to take away my reproach among men.
26ในเดือนที่หก พระเจ้าส่งทูตสวรรค์กาเบรียลไปยังเมืองนาซาเร็ธในแคว้นกาลิลี
26And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27ไปหาหญิงพรหมจารีคนหนึ่งซึ่งหมั้นหมายไว้กับชายชื่อโยเซฟ ผู้สืบเชื้อสายจากวงศ์วานของดาวิด หญิงพรหมจารีนั้นชื่อมารีย์
27To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
28ทูตสวรรค์เข้ามาหานางและกล่าวว่า “จงชื่นชมยินดีเถิด ท่านผู้ที่ได้รับความโปรดปรานอย่างยิ่ง! องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าสถิตกับท่าน ท่านได้รับพรเหนือบรรดาผู้หญิง!”
28And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29แต่เมื่อนางเห็นเขา นางก็รู้สึกกังวลใจอย่างมากกับคำกล่าวนั้น และครุ่นคิดว่าคำทักทายเช่นนี้หมายถึงอะไร
29And when she saw him , she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30ทูตสวรรค์กล่าวกับนางว่า “อย่ากลัวเลย มารีย์ เพราะท่านได้รับความโปรดปรานจากพระเจ้า
30And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31ท่านจะตั้งครรภ์และให้กำเนิดบุตรชาย และจงตั้งชื่อเขาว่า ‘เยซู’
31And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32เขาจะเป็นผู้ยิ่งใหญ่ และจะได้ชื่อว่า พระบุตรขององค์ผู้สูงสุด องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าจะประทานบัลลังก์ของดาวิดบรรพบุรุษของเขาแก่เขา
32He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33และเขาจะครอบครองวงศ์วานของยาโคบตลอดไป อาณาจักรของเขาจะไม่มีวันสิ้นสุด”
33And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34มารีย์กล่าวกับทูตสวรรค์ว่า “เรื่องนี้จะเป็นไปได้อย่างไร ในเมื่อข้าพเจ้ายังเป็นหญิงพรหมจารี?”
34Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35ทูตสวรรค์ตอบนางว่า “พระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์จะมาเหนือท่าน และพลังขององค์ผู้สูงสุดจะปกคลุมท่าน เพราะเหตุนี้ ผู้บริสุทธิ์ที่เกิดจากท่านจะได้ชื่อว่า พระบุตรของพระเจ้า
35And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36เอลีซาเบธญาติของท่านก็ตั้งครรภ์บุตรชายในวัยชราเช่นกัน และบัดนี้นางที่คนเคยเรียกว่าเป็นหมันก็ตั้งครรภ์ได้หกเดือนแล้ว
36And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37เพราะไม่มีสิ่งใดที่พระเจ้ากล่าวแล้วจะเป็นไปไม่ได้”
37For with God nothing shall be impossible.
38มารีย์กล่าวว่า “ข้าพเจ้าเป็นผู้รับใช้ขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ขอให้เป็นไปกับข้าพเจ้าตามคำของท่าน” แล้วทูตสวรรค์ก็จากนางไป
38And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
39ในเวลานั้น มารีย์ลุกขึ้นและรีบเดินทางไปยังเมืองหนึ่งในแถบภูเขาของยูดาห์
39And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
40นางเข้าไปในบ้านของเศคาริยาห์ และทักทายเอลีซาเบธ
40And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
41เมื่อเอลีซาเบธได้ยินคำทักทายของมารีย์ ทารกในครรภ์ของนางก็ดิ้น และเอลีซาเบธก็เต็มเปี่ยมด้วยพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์
41And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
42นางร้องเสียงดังว่า “เธอได้รับพรเหนือบรรดาผู้หญิง และผลแห่งครรภ์ของเธอก็ได้รับพร!
42And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
43เหตุใดข้าพเจ้าจึงได้รับความโปรดปรานถึงเพียงนี้ ที่มารดาขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของข้าพเจ้ามาหาข้าพเจ้า?
43And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44เพราะทันทีที่เสียงทักทายของเธอเข้ามาถึงหูข้าพเจ้า ทารกในครรภ์ของข้าพเจ้าก็ดิ้นด้วยความยินดี!
44For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
45หญิงผู้ที่เชื่อก็เป็นสุข เพราะสิ่งที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้ากล่าวแก่นางจะสำเร็จ!”
45And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
46มารีย์กล่าวว่า “จิตของข้าพเจ้าเทิดทูนองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า
46And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47วิญญาณของข้าพเจ้าชื่นชมยินดีในพระเจ้า พระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของข้าพเจ้า
47And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48เพราะพระองค์เห็นความต่ำต้อยของผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ ตั้งแต่บัดนี้เป็นต้นไป คนทุกชั่วอายุจะเรียกข้าพเจ้าว่าเป็นผู้ได้รับพร
48For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
49เพราะองค์ผู้มีอำนาจยิ่งใหญ่ได้ทำสิ่งยิ่งใหญ่แก่ข้าพเจ้า นามของพระองค์บริสุทธิ์
49For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
50ความเมตตาของพระองค์มีแก่คนที่ยำเกรงพระองค์ จากชั่วอายุหนึ่งถึงอีกชั่วอายุหนึ่ง
50And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
51พระองค์สำแดงพลังด้วยแขนของพระองค์ ทำให้คนที่เย่อหยิ่งในความคิดของใจตนกระจัดกระจายไป
51He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
52ดึงบรรดาผู้ปกครองลงจากบัลลังก์ และยกคนต่ำต้อยขึ้น
52He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
53ให้คนหิวอิ่มด้วยสิ่งดี ๆ และส่งคนร่ำรวยกลับไปมือเปล่า
53He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
54พระองค์ช่วยเหลืออิสราเอล ผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ เพื่อระลึกถึงความเมตตา
54He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
55ตามที่พระองค์กล่าวไว้กับบรรพบุรุษของพวกเรา แก่อับราฮัมและลูกหลาน ของเขาตลอดไป”
55As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
56มารีย์พักอยู่กับเอลีซาเบธประมาณสามเดือน แล้วจึงกลับบ้านของตน
56And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
57เมื่อถึงเวลาที่เอลีซาเบธจะคลอด นางก็ให้กำเนิดบุตรชาย
57Now Elisabeth’s full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
58เพื่อนบ้านและญาติ ๆ ของนางได้ยินว่าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าสำแดงความเมตตาอย่างยิ่งแก่นาง พวกเขาจึงร่วมชื่นชมยินดีกับนาง
58And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
59ในวันที่แปด พวกเขามาเพื่อทำพิธีเข้าสุหนัตให้เด็ก และตั้งใจจะเรียกเด็กว่า เศคาริยาห์ ตามชื่อบิดาของเขา
59And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
60แต่มารดาของเด็กตอบว่า “ไม่ใช่ เขาจะต้องชื่อ ยอห์น”
60And his mother answered and said, Not so ; but he shall be called John.
61พวกเขากล่าวกับนางว่า “ในหมู่ญาติของเธอไม่มีใครชื่อนี้”
61And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
62แล้วพวกเขาก็ทำมือเป็นสัญญาณถามบิดาของเด็กว่าเขาต้องการให้เด็กชื่ออะไร
62And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
63เขาขอแผ่นสำหรับเขียน แล้วเขียนว่า “เขาชื่อ ยอห์น” ทุกคนต่างประหลาดใจ
63And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.
64ทันใดนั้น ปากของเขาก็เปิดออก ลิ้นของเขาก็คลาย และเขาเริ่มพูดสรรเสริญพระเจ้า
64And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed , and he spake, and praised God.
65ทุกคนที่อยู่รอบ ๆ พวกเขาต่างเกิดความกลัว และผู้คนก็เล่าเรื่องเหล่านี้กันไปทั่วแถบภูเขาของยูเดีย
65And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judæa.
66ทุกคนที่ได้ยินต่างเก็บเรื่องเหล่านี้ไว้ในใจ และพูดว่า “แล้วเด็กคนนี้จะเป็นอะไรต่อไป?” เพราะมือขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าอยู่กับเขา
66And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.
67เศคาริยาห์บิดาของเด็กเต็มเปี่ยมด้วยพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ และเผยพระวจนะว่า
67And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
68“องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระเจ้าของอิสราเอล สมควรได้รับการสรรเสริญ เพราะพระองค์มาเยี่ยมเยียนและไถ่ประชาชนของพระองค์
68Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
69และยกเขาสัตว์แห่งความรอดขึ้นให้เรา ในวงศ์วานของดาวิด ผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์
69And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
70(ตามที่พระองค์กล่าวไว้โดยปากของบรรดาผู้เผยพระวจนะบริสุทธิ์ของพระองค์ตั้งแต่โบราณกาล)
70As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
71คือ ความรอดจากศัตรูของเรา และจากมือของทุกคนที่เกลียดชังเรา
71That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
72เพื่อสำแดงความเมตตาแก่บรรพบุรุษของเรา และระลึกถึงพันธสัญญาอันบริสุทธิ์ของพระองค์
72To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
73คือ คำปฏิญาณที่พระองค์สาบานไว้แก่อับราฮัม บรรพบุรุษของเรา
73The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
74เพื่อให้เรา เมื่อเราพ้นจากมือของศัตรูแล้ว สามารถรับใช้พระองค์โดยปราศจากความกลัว
74That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
75ด้วยความบริสุทธิ์และความชอบธรรมต่อหน้าพระองค์ ตลอดทุกวันในชีวิตของเรา
75In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
76และเจ้า เด็กน้อยเอ๋ย จะได้ชื่อว่าเป็นผู้เผยพระวจนะขององค์ผู้สูงสุด เพราะเจ้าจะนำหน้าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไปเพื่อเตรียมทางของพระองค์
76And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
77เพื่อให้ประชาชนของพระองค์รู้จักความรอดด้วยการยกโทษบาปของพวกเขา
77To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
78เพราะความเมตตาอันอ่อนโยนของพระเจ้าของเรา รุ่งอรุณจากเบื้องบนจะมาเยี่ยมเยียนเราด้วยความเมตตานี้
78Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
79เพื่อส่องสว่างแก่ผู้ที่นั่งอยู่ในความมืดและเงาแห่งความตาย และนำเท้าของเราเข้าสู่ทางแห่งสันติสุข”
79To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
80เด็กนั้นเติบโตขึ้น และจิตวิญญาณก็เข้มแข็งขึ้น เขาอยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารจนถึงวันที่ปรากฏตัวต่อประชาชนอิสราเอล
80And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.
