1ผู้อาวุโส ถึงสุภาพสตรีผู้ได้รับเลือกและลูก ๆ ของเธอ ซึ่งข้าพเจ้ารักในความจริง และไม่ใช่ข้าพเจ้าคนเดียว ทุกคนที่รู้จักความจริงก็รักพวกเขาเช่นกัน
1The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
2เพราะเห็นแก่ความจริงที่คงอยู่ในเรา และจะอยู่กับเราตลอดไป
2For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
3พระคุณ พระเมตตา และสันติสุขจะอยู่กับเราในความจริงและความรัก จากพระเจ้าพระบิดาและจากพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระบุตรของพระบิดา
3Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
4ข้าพเจ้าดีใจมากที่ได้พบว่าลูกของคุณบางคนดำเนินชีวิตในความจริง ตามที่พระบิดาสั่งเราไว้
4I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
5บัดนี้ ข้าพเจ้าขอร้องคุณ สุภาพสตรีที่รัก ไม่ใช่ว่าข้าพเจ้าเขียนพระบัญชาใหม่ถึงคุณ แต่เป็นพระบัญชาที่เรามีมาตั้งแต่แรกเริ่ม คือให้เรารักกันและกัน
5And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6นี่คือความรัก คือให้เราดำเนินชีวิตตามพระบัญชาของพระองค์ และนี่คือพระบัญชาที่พวกคุณได้ยินมาตั้งแต่แรกเริ่ม คือให้ดำเนินชีวิตเช่นนั้น
6And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
7เพราะมีผู้หลอกลวงจำนวนมากออกไปทั่วโลก คือคนที่ไม่ยอมรับว่าพระเยซูคริสต์มาเป็นมนุษย์ ผู้ที่เป็นเช่นนี้คือผู้หลอกลวงและผู้ต่อต้านพระคริสต์
7For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
8จงระวังตนเอง เพื่อเราจะไม่สูญเสียสิ่งที่เราทำสำเร็จไว้ แต่จะรับรางวัลอย่างเต็มเปี่ยม
8Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
9ใครก็ตามที่ละเมิดและไม่คงอยู่ในคำสอนของพระคริสต์ คนนั้นไม่มีพระเจ้า ส่วนคนที่คงอยู่ในคำสอนนี้ มีทั้งพระบิดาและพระบุตร
9Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10ถ้าใครมาหาพวกคุณแต่ไม่ได้นำคำสอนนี้มา อย่ารับเขาเข้าบ้าน และอย่าทักทายต้อนรับเขา
10If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11เพราะคนที่ทักทายต้อนรับเขา ก็มีส่วนในการกระทำชั่วของเขา
11For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
12ข้าพเจ้ามีหลายเรื่องจะเขียนถึงพวกคุณ แต่ไม่อยากเขียนด้วยกระดาษและหมึก ข้าพเจ้าหวังว่าจะไปหาพวกคุณและได้พบหน้าพูดคุยกัน เพื่อความยินดีของเราจะเต็มเปี่ยม
12Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
