1De zonen van Asaf, Heman en Jedoetoen werden door David en de legeroversten aangewezen, om op de citers, harpen en cymbalen te spelen. Hier volgt een opsomming van hen, die met deze tak van dienst werden belast.
1Moreover David and the chief. officers of the army separated for the ministry the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Idithun: to prophesy with harps, and with psalteries, and with cymbals according to their number serving in their appointed office.
2De groep van Asaf: Zakkoer, Josef, Netanja, Asjaréla; het waren de zonen van Asaf, die onder leiding van Asaf de door den koning voorgeschreven muziek vol begeestering moesten uitvoeren.
2Of the sons of Asaph: Zacchur, and Joseph, and Nathania, and Asarela, sons of Asaph: under the hand of Asaph prophesying near the king.
3De groep van Jedoetoen: Gedaljáhoe, Soeri, Jesjajáhoe, Chasjabjáhoe en Mattitjáhoe, in het geheel zes zonen van Jedoetoen, die onder leiding van hun vader Jedoetoen bij het loven en prijzen van Jahweh vol begeestering de citer moesten spelen.
3And of Idithun: the sons of Idithun, Godolias, Serf, Jeseias, and Hasabias, and Mathathias, six, under the hand of their father Idithun, who prophesied with a harp to give thanks and to praise the Lord.
4De groep van Heman: Boekki-jáhoe, Mattanjáhoe, Oezziël, Sjeboeël, Jerimot, Chananja, Chanani, Elijáta, Giddalti, Romamti-Ézer, Josjbekásja, Mallóti, Hotir en Machaziot, zonen van Heman;
4Of Heman also: the sons of Heman, Bocciau, Mathaniau, Oziel, Subuel, and Jerimoth, Hananias, Hanani, Eliatha, Geddelthi, and Romemthiezer, and Jesbacassa, Mellothi, Othir, Mahazioth:
5ze waren allen zonen van Heman, den ziener, die den koning Gods woorden vertolkte; want om zijn aanzien te verhogen, had God aan Heman veertien zonen en drie dochters geschonken.
5All these were the sons of Heman the seer of the king in the words of God, to lift up the horn: and God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
6Naar koninklijke verordening moesten ze allen onder leiding van hun vader Asaf, Jedoetoen en Heman met cymbalen, harpen en citers in het heiligdom van Jahweh de liederen begeleiden bij de eredienst in het huis van God.
6All these under their father’s hand were distributed to sing in the temple of the Lord, with cymbals, and psalteries and harps, for the service of the house of the Lord near the king: to wit, Asaph, and Idithun, and Heman.
7Hun ambtgenoten meegerekend, die in de liederen van Jahweh waren geoefend, telden ze in het geheel tweehonderd acht en tachtig kunstenaars.
7And the number of them with their brethren, that taught the song of the Lord, all the teachers, were two hundred and eighty-eight,
8Om hun beurt vast te stellen wierpen zij het lot, de minderen evengoed als de voornamen, de deskundigen evengoed als de leerlingen.
8And they cast lots by their courses, the elder equally with the younger, the learned and the unlearned together.
9Het eerste lot viel op Josef, met zijn zonen en broeders twaalf man; het tweede op Gedaljáhoe, met zijn zonen en broeders twaalf man;
9And the first lot came forth to Joseph, who was of Asaph. The second to Godolias, to him and his sons, and his brethren twelve.
10het derde op Zakkoer, met zijn zonen en broeders twaalf man;
10The third to Zachur, to his sons and his brethren twelve.
11het vierde op Jisri, met zijn zonen en broeders twaalf man;,
11The fourth to Isari, to his sons and his brethren twelve.
12het vijfde op Netanjáhoe, met zijn zonen en broeders twaalf man;
