1Ještě odpovídaje Hospodin z vichru Jobovi, i řekl:
1Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said:
2Přepaš nyní jako muž bedra svá, a nač se tebe tázati budu, oznam mi.
2Shall he that reproveth contend with the Almighty? He that argueth with God, let him answer it.
3Zdaliž pak i soud můj zrušiti chceš? Což mne odsoudíš, jen abys se sám ospravedlnil?
3Then Job answered the LORD, and said:
4Èili máš rámě jako Bůh silný, a hlasem jako on hřímáš?
4Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer Thee? I lay my hand upon my mouth.
5Ozdobiž se nyní vyvýšeností a důstojností, v slávu a okrasu oblec se.
5Once have I spoken, but I will not answer again; yea, twice, but I will proceed no further.
6Rozprostři prchlivost hněvu svého, a pohleď na všelikého pyšného, a sniž ho.
6Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:
7Pohleď, pravím, na všelikého pyšného, a sehni jej, anobrž setři bezbožné na místě jejich.
7Gird up thy loins now like a man; I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto Me.
8Skrej je v prachu spolu, tvář jejich zavěž v skrytě.
8Wilt thou even make void My judgment? Wilt thou condemn Me, that thou mayest be justified?
9A tak i já budu tě oslavovati, že tě zachovává pravice tvá.
9Or hast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like Him?
10Aj, hle slon, jejž jsem jako i tebe učinil, trávu jí jako vůl.
10Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency, and array thyself with glory and beauty.
11Aj, hle moc jeho v bedrách jeho, a síla jeho v pupku břicha jeho.
11Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath; and look upon every one that is proud, and abase him.
12Jak chce, ohání ocasem svým, ačkoli jest jako cedr; žily lůna jeho jako ratolesti jsou spletené.
12Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
13Kosti jeho jako trouby měděné, hnátové jeho jako sochor železný.
13Hide them in the dust together; bind their faces in the hidden place.
14Onť jest přední z účinků Boha silného, učinitel jeho sám na něj doložiti může meč svůj.
14Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
15Hory zajisté přinášejí mu pastvu, a všecka zvěř polní hrá tam.
15Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
16V stínu léhá, v soukromí mezi třtím a bahnem.
16Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the stays of his body.
17Dříví stín dávající stínem svým jej přikrývá, a vrbí potoční obkličuje jej.
17He straineth his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together.
18Aj, zadržuje řeku tak, že nemůže pospíchati; tuší sobě, že požře Jordán v ústa svá.
18His bones are as pipes of brass; his gristles are like bars of iron.
19Zdaž kdo před očima jeho polapí jej, aneb provazy protáhne chřípě jeho?
19He is the beginning of the ways of God; He only that made him can make His sword to approach unto him.
20Vytáhneš-liž velryba udicí, aneb provazem pohříženým až k jazyku jeho?
20Surely the mountains bring him forth food, and all the beasts of the field play there.
21Zdali dáš kroužek na chřípě jeho, aneb hákem probodneš čelist jeho?
21He lieth under the lotus-trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
22Zdaž se obrátí k tobě s prosbami, aneb mluviti bude tobě lahodně?
22The lotus-trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
23Učiní-liž smlouvu s tebou? Přijmeš-liž jej za služebníka věčného?
23Behold, if a river overflow, he trembleth not; he is confident, though the Jordan rush forth to his mouth.
24Zdaž budeš s ním hráti jako s ptáčkem, aneb přivážeš jej dětem svým?
24Shall any take him by his eyes, or pierce through his nose with a snare?
25Přistrojí-liž sobě hody z něho společníci, a rozdělí-liž jej mezi kupce?

26Zdaž naplníš háky kůži jeho, a vidlicemi rybářskými hlavu jeho?

27Vztáhni jen na něj ruku svou, a neučiníš zmínky o boji.

28Aj, naděje o polapení jeho mylná jest. Zdaž i k spatření jeho člověk nebývá poražen?
