1第十一年の第三の月、その月の一日、主の言葉が私に臨んだ。
1And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:
2「人の子よ、エジプトの王ファラオと、その大勢の民に言え。 『あなたはその偉大さにおいて、 だれに似ているのか。
2'Son of man, say unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude: whom art thou like in thy greatness?
3見よ、アッシリアはレバノンの杉であった。 美しい枝を持ち、 森のような陰を作り、 丈は高く、 その梢は茂った大枝の間にあった。
3Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon, with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of a high stature; and its top was among the thick boughs.
4水がそれを養い、 深淵がそれを成長させた。 深淵の川々は植えられた場所の周囲を流れ、 その水路を野のすべての木に送った。
4The waters nourished it, the deep made it to grow; her rivers ran round about her plantation, and she sent out her conduits unto all the trees of the field.
5それゆえ、その丈は、 野のすべての木よりも高くなった。 その大枝は増え、 豊かな水によって枝は長く伸び広がった。
5Therefore its stature was exalted above all the trees of the field; and its boughs were multiplied, and its branches became long, because of the multitude of waters, when it shot them forth.
6空のすべての鳥が、その大枝に巣を作った。 野のすべての動物が、その枝の下で子を産んだ。 すべての大国が、その陰に住んだ。
6All the fowls of heaven made their nests in its boughs, and all the beasts of the field did bring forth their young under its branches, and under its shadow dwelt all great nations.
7こうして、それはその偉大さと、 枝の長さによって美しかった。 その根は豊かな水のほとりにあった。
7Thus was it fair in its greatness, in the length of its branches; for its root was by many waters.
8神の園の杉も、その美しさをかすませることはできなかった。 糸杉もその大枝には及ばず、 松の木もその枝には及ばなかった。 神の園のどの木も、 その美しさには及ばなかった。
8The cedars in the garden of God could not hide it; the cypress-trees were not like its boughs, and the plane-trees were not as its branches; nor was any tree in the garden of God like unto it in its beauty.
9わたしは多くの枝によって、それを美しくした。 そのため、神の園にある、 エデンのすべての木がそれをねたんだ。』
9I made it fair by the multitude of its branches; so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied it.
10それゆえ、主なる神はこう言われる。『その丈が高くなり、梢を茂った大枝の間に置き、その高さのために心が高ぶったので、
10Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD: Because thou art exalted in stature, and he hath set his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;
11わたしはそれを諸国の有力者の手に渡す。その者は必ずこれを思いのままに扱う。わたしはその悪のために、これを追い出した。
11I do even deliver him into the hand of the mighty one of the nations; he shall surely deal with him; I do drive him out according to his wickedness.
12異国人、諸国の中で最も残忍な者たちがこれを切り倒し、捨て去った。その枝は山々とすべての谷に落ち、その大枝はこの地のすべての水路のそばで折れた。地のすべての民はその陰から出て行き、これを見捨てた。
12And strangers, the terrible of the nations, do cut him off, and cast him down; upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs lie broken in all the channels of the land; and all the peoples of the earth do go down from his shadow, and do leave him.
13空のすべての鳥は、その倒れた幹の上に住み、野のすべての動物はその枝の上にいる。
13Upon his carcass all the fowls of the heaven do dwell, and upon his branches are all the beasts of the field;
14これは、水のほとりにあるどの木も、自分の丈の高さを誇らず、その梢を茂った大枝の間に置かないためである。水を飲むすべての木のうち、力あるものも、その高さに立ち続けることはない。彼らは皆、死に渡され、人の子らの間で、穴に下る者たちと共に地の低い所へ行くからである。』
14to the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves in their stature, neither set their top among the thick boughs, nor that their mighty ones stand up in their height, even all that drink water; for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.
15主なる神はこう言われる。『それがよみ に下った日、わたしは喪をもたらした。わたしはそのために深淵を覆い、その川々をせき止めた。大水はとどめられた。わたしはそのためにレバノンを嘆かせ、野のすべての木はそのためにしおれた。
15Thus saith the Lord GOD: In the day when he went down to the nether-world I caused the deep to mourn and cover itself for him, and I restrained the rivers thereof, and the great waters were stayed; and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.
16わたしがそれを穴に下る者たちと共によみへ投げ落としたとき、その倒れる音によって諸国を震えさせた。エデンのすべての木、レバノンの選り抜きの最良の木、水を飲むすべての木は、地の低い所で慰めを得た。
16I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to the nether-world with them that descend into the pit; and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the nether parts of the earth.
17彼らもまた、それと共によみへ、剣で殺された者たちのもとへ下った。諸国のただ中でその陰に住み、その腕となっていた者たちも同じである。
17They also went down into the nether-world with him unto them that are slain by the sword; yea, they that were in his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the nations.
18エデンの木々の中で、栄光と偉大さにおいて、あなたはこのようにだれに似ているのか。しかし、あなたはエデンの木々と共に地の低い所へ引き下ろされる。あなたは剣で殺された者たちと共に、割礼を受けていない者たちの間に横たわる。 これがファラオと、その大勢の民である』と主なる神は言われる。」
18To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shall thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth; thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised, with them that are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.'
