1Psalmus David. Adversus Goliath. [Benedictus Dominus Deus meus, qui docet manus meas ad prælium, et digitos meos ad bellum.
1A Psalm of David. O LORD, hear my prayer, give ear to my supplications; in Thy faithfulness answer me, and in Thy righteousness.
2Misericordia mea et refugium meum; susceptor meus et liberator meus; protector meus, et in ipso speravi, qui subdit populum meum sub me.
2And enter not into judgment with Thy servant; for in Thy sight shall no man living be justified.
3Domine, quid est homo, quia innotuisti ei? aut filius hominis, quia reputas eum?
3For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath crushed my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.
4Homo vanitati similis factus est; dies ejus sicut umbra prætereunt.
4And my spirit fainteth within me; my heart within me is appalled.
5Domine, inclina cælos tuos, et descende; tange montes, et fumigabunt.
5I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Thy doing; I muse on the work of Thy hands.
6Fulgura coruscationem, et dissipabis eos; emitte sagittas tuas, et conturbabis eos.
6I spread forth my hands unto Thee; my soul thirsteth after Thee, as a weary land. Selah
7Emitte manum tuam de alto: eripe me, et libera me de aquis multis, de manu filiorum alienorum:
7Answer me speedily, O LORD, my spirit faileth; hide not Thy face from me; lest I become like them that go down into the pit.
8quorum os locutum est vanitatem, et dextera eorum dextera iniquitatis.
8Cause me to hear Thy lovingkindness in the morning, for in Thee do I trust; cause me to know the way wherein I should walk, for unto Thee have I lifted up my soul.
9Deus, canticum novum cantabo tibi; in psalterio decachordo psallam tibi.
9Deliver me from mine enemies, O LORD; with Thee have I hidden myself.
10Qui das salutem regibus, qui redemisti David servum tuum de gladio maligno,
10Teach me to do Thy will, for Thou art my God; let Thy good spirit lead me in an even land.
11eripe me, et erue me de manu filiorum alienorum, quorum os locutum est vanitatem, et dextera eorum dextera iniquitatis.
11For Thy name's sake, O LORD, quicken me; in Thy righteousness bring my soul out of trouble.
12Quorum filii sicut novellæ plantationes in juventute sua; filiæ eorum compositæ, circumornatæ ut similitudo templi.
12And in Thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that harass my soul; for I am Thy servant.
13Promptuaria eorum plena, eructantia ex hoc in illud; oves eorum fœtosæ, abundantes in egressibus suis;
