Psalmorum 137

Clementine Vulgate, 1598
JPS Tanakh (Jewish Publication Society, 1917)
1Ipsi David. [Confitebor tibi, Domine, in toto corde meo, quoniam audisti verba oris mei. In conspectu angelorum psallam tibi;
1By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
2adorabo ad templum sanctum tuum, et confitebor nomini tuo: super misericordia tua et veritate tua; quoniam magnificasti super omne, nomen sanctum tuum.
2Upon the willows in the midst thereof we hanged up our harps.
3In quacumque die invocavero te, exaudi me; multiplicabis in anima mea virtutem.
3For there they that led us captive asked of us words of song, and our tormentors asked of us mirth: 'Sing us one of the songs of Zion.'
4Confiteantur tibi, Domine, omnes reges terræ, quia audierunt omnia verba oris tui.
4How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a foreign land?
5Et cantent in viis Domini, quoniam magna est gloria Domini;
5If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.
6quoniam excelsus Dominus, et humilia respicit, et alta a longe cognoscit.
6Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, if I remember thee not; if I set not Jerusalem above my chiefest joy.
7Si ambulavero in medio tribulationis, vivificabis me; et super iram inimicorum meorum extendisti manum tuam, et salvum me fecit dextera tua.
7Remember, O LORD, against the children of Edom the day of Jerusalem; who said: 'Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.'
8Dominus retribuet pro me. Domine, misericordia tua in sæculum; opera manuum tuarum ne despicias.]
8O daughter of Babylon, that art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that repayeth thee as thou hast served us.
