Psalmorum 137
Clementine Vulgate, 1598Translation
Clementine Vulgate, 1598
King James Version with Apocrypha
1Ipsi David. [Confitebor tibi, Domine, in toto corde meo, quoniam audisti verba oris mei. In conspectu angelorum psallam tibi;
1By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
2adorabo ad templum sanctum tuum, et confitebor nomini tuo: super misericordia tua et veritate tua; quoniam magnificasti super omne, nomen sanctum tuum.
2We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
3In quacumque die invocavero te, exaudi me; multiplicabis in anima mea virtutem.
3For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying , Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
4Confiteantur tibi, Domine, omnes reges terræ, quia audierunt omnia verba oris tui.
4How shall we sing the LORD’s song in a strange land?
5Et cantent in viis Domini, quoniam magna est gloria Domini;
5If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning .
6quoniam excelsus Dominus, et humilia respicit, et alta a longe cognoscit.
6If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
7Si ambulavero in medio tribulationis, vivificabis me; et super iram inimicorum meorum extendisti manum tuam, et salvum me fecit dextera tua.
7Remember, O LORD , the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it , rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
8Dominus retribuet pro me. Domine, misericordia tua in sæculum; opera manuum tuarum ne despicias.]
8O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be , that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
