1And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, that were by the sea, heard how that the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until they were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
1เมื่อกษัตริย์ชาวอาโมไรต์ทั้งหมดซึ่งอยู่ทางฟากตะวันตกของแม่น้ำจอร์แดน และกษัตริย์ชาวคานาอันทั้งหมดซึ่งอยู่ริมทะเล ได้ยินว่าพระยาห์เวห์ทรงทำให้น้ำในแม่น้ำจอร์แดนแห้งไปต่อหน้าชาวอิสราเอลจนพวกเราชาวอิสราเอลข้ามมาได้ กษัตริย์เหล่านั้นก็ขวัญฝ่อ และไม่เหลือกำลังใจอีกเลยเพราะชาวอิสราเอล
2At that time the LORD said unto Joshua: 'Make thee knives of flint, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.'
2ในเวลานั้น พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโยชูวาว่า “จงทำมีดหินเหล็กไฟ แล้วให้มีการขลิบชายชาวอิสราเอลเป็นครั้งที่สอง”
3And Joshua made him knives of flint, and circumcised the children of Israel at Gibeath-ha-araloth.
3โยชูวาจึงทำมีดหินเหล็กไฟ และขลิบชายชาวอิสราเอลที่เนินแห่งหนังหุ้มปลาย
4And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: all the people that came forth out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came forth out of Egypt.
4เหตุผลที่โยชูวาขลิบให้พวกเขาคือ ชายทั้งหมดที่ออกมาจากอียิปต์ รวมทั้งนักรบทุกคน ได้ตายในถิ่นทุรกันดารระหว่างทางหลังจากออกจากอียิปต์
5For all the people that came out were circumcised; but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, had not been circumcised.
5ชายทุกคนที่ออกมาจากอียิปต์ได้ผ่านการขลิบแล้ว แต่ชายทั้งหมดที่เกิดในถิ่นทุรกันดารระหว่างเดินทางออกจากอียิปต์ยังไม่ได้ผ่านการขลิบ
6For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the nation, even the men of war that came forth out of Egypt, were consumed, because they hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD; unto whom the LORD swore that He would not let them see the land which the LORD swore unto their fathers that He would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
6ชาวอิสราเอลเดินทางอยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารสี่สิบปี จนคนในชาติรุ่นนั้นหมดสิ้นไป คือบรรดานักรบที่ออกมาจากอียิปต์ เพราะพวกเขาไม่เชื่อฟังพระยาห์เวห์ พระยาห์เวห์ทรงสาบานต่อพวกเขาว่าจะไม่ให้พวกเขาเห็นแผ่นดินที่พระองค์ทรงสาบานต่อบรรพบุรุษของพวกเขาว่าจะประทานแก่พวกเราชาวอิสราเอล เป็นแผ่นดินอันอุดมสมบูรณ์ที่มีน้ำนมและน้ำผึ้งไหลล้น
7And He raised up their children in their stead; them did Joshua circumcise; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised by the way.
7พระองค์ทรงให้ลูกหลานของพวกเขาขึ้นมาแทนที่ โยชูวาจึงขลิบให้คนเหล่านี้ เพราะพวกเขายังไม่ได้ผ่านการขลิบ เนื่องจากไม่มีการขลิบให้พวกเขาระหว่างทาง
8And it came to pass, when all the nation were circumcised, every one of them, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.
8เมื่อขลิบให้คนทั้งชาติเสร็จแล้ว พวกเขาก็พักอยู่ในที่ของตนภายในค่ายจนหายดี
9And the LORD said unto Joshua: 'This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you.' Wherefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, unto this day.
9พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโยชูวาว่า “วันนี้เราได้กลิ้งความอัปยศของอียิปต์ออกไปจากพวกเจ้าแล้ว” ดังนั้นสถานที่นั้นจึงมีชื่อว่ากิลกาล จนถึงทุกวันนี้
10And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal; and they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.
10ชาวอิสราเอลตั้งค่ายอยู่ที่กิลกาล และฉลองเทศกาลปัสกาในเวลาเย็นของวันที่สิบสี่ของเดือน ณ ที่ราบเยรีโค
11And they did eat of the produce of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes and parched corn, in the selfsame day.
11วันถัดจากเทศกาลปัสกา ในวันนั้นเอง พวกเขากินขนมปังไร้เชื้อและเมล็ดข้าวคั่วจากผลผลิตของแผ่นดิน
12And the manna ceased on the morrow, after they had eaten of the produce of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
12วันรุ่งขึ้น หลังจากพวกเขากินผลผลิตของแผ่นดินแล้ว มานาก็หยุดตก ชาวอิสราเอลไม่มีมานาอีกต่อไป แต่ในปีนั้นพวกเขากินพืชผลจากแผ่นดินคานาอัน
13And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand; and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him: 'Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?'
13เมื่อโยชูวาอยู่ใกล้เมืองเยรีโค เขาเงยหน้าขึ้นมอง และเห็นชายคนหนึ่งยืนอยู่ตรงหน้า ถือดาบที่ชักออกมาแล้ว โยชูวาเดินเข้าไปถามว่า “ท่านอยู่ฝ่ายเราหรือฝ่ายศัตรูของเรา?”
14And he said: 'Nay, but I am captain of the host of the LORD; I am now come.' And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said unto him: 'What saith my lord unto his servant?'
14ชายผู้นั้นตอบว่า “ไม่ใช่ ข้าพเจ้ามาในฐานะผู้บัญชาการกองทัพของพระยาห์เวห์” โยชูวาหมอบลงจนหน้าจรดดินและนมัสการ แล้วถามเขาว่า “ท่านมีสิ่งใดจะสั่งข้าพเจ้าผู้รับใช้ของท่านหรือ?”
15And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua: 'Put off thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy.' And Joshua did so.
15หัวหน้ากองทัพของพระยาห์เวห์พูดกับโยชูวาว่า “จงถอดรองเท้าออก เพราะที่ที่เจ้ายืนอยู่นั้นเป็นที่บริสุทธิ์” โยชูวาก็ทำตาม
