1But the children of Israel committed a trespass concerning the devoted thing; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the devoted thing; and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.
1แต่ชาวอิสราเอลได้กระทำผิดเกี่ยวกับสิ่งของที่ถวายเพื่อทำลาย เพราะอาคานบุตรของคารมี ผู้เป็นบุตรของศับดี ผู้เป็นบุตรของเศราห์ จากเผ่ายูดาห์ ได้หยิบสิ่งของที่ถวายเพื่อทำลายบางอย่างไป พระยาห์เวห์จึงกริ้วชาวอิสราเอลอย่างรุนแรง
2And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Beth-el, and spoke unto them, saying: 'Go up and spy out the land.' And the men went up and spied out Ai.
2โยชูวาส่งคนจากเมืองเยรีโคไปยังเมืองอัย ซึ่งอยู่ใกล้เบธอาเวนทางตะวันออกของเบเธล และสั่งพวกเขาว่า “จงขึ้นไปสอดแนมแผ่นดิน” คนเหล่านั้นจึงขึ้นไปสอดแนมเมืองอัย
3And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him: 'Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; make not all the people to toil thither; for they are but few.'
3เมื่อกลับมาหาโยชูวา พวกเขาพูดว่า “ไม่ต้องให้ประชาชนทั้งหมดขึ้นไป ให้ชายประมาณสองหรือสามพันคนขึ้นไปโจมตีเมืองอัยก็พอ อย่าให้ประชาชนทั้งหมดต้องเหน็ดเหนื่อยไปที่นั่น เพราะคนที่นั่นมีอยู่เพียงไม่กี่คน”
4So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men; and they fled before the men of Ai.
4ประชาชนประมาณสามพันคนจึงขึ้นไปที่นั่น แต่พวกเขาหนีทหารเมืองอัย
5And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men; and they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them at the descent; and the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.
5ทหารเมืองอัยฆ่าพวกเขาประมาณสามสิบหกคน และไล่ตามจากหน้าประตูเมืองไปจนถึงเชบาริม โจมตีพวกเขาตามทางลาดลง ประชาชนต่างขวัญฝ่อ ใจอ่อนยวบเหมือนน้ำ
6And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust upon their heads.
6โยชูวาฉีกเสื้อผ้าของตน แล้วหมอบหน้าลงกับพื้นต่อหน้าหีบของพระยาห์เวห์จนถึงเวลาเย็น ทั้งเขาและบรรดาผู้อาวุโสของอิสราเอลต่างโปรยฝุ่นลงบนศีรษะ
7And Joshua said: 'Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast Thou at all brought this people over the Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? would that we had been content and dwelt beyond the Jordan!
7โยชูวาพูดว่า “อนิจจา ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระยาห์เวห์ ทำไมพระองค์จึงนำประชาชนนี้ข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนมา เพียงเพื่อมอบพวกเราให้ชาวอาโมไรต์ทำลายเสีย? ถ้าพวกเราพอใจจะอาศัยอยู่ทางฟากตะวันออกของแม่น้ำจอร์แดนก็คงดี!
8Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after that Israel hath turned their backs before their enemies!
8ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ข้าพเจ้าจะพูดอะไรได้ ในเมื่ออิสราเอลหันหลังหนีศัตรู?
9For when the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land hear of it, they will compass us round, and cut off our name from the earth; and what wilt Thou do for Thy great name?'
9เพราะชาวคานาอันและชาวแผ่นดินนี้ทั้งหมดจะได้ยินเรื่องนี้ พวกเขาจะล้อมพวกเราและลบชื่อของพวกเราให้สูญสิ้นไปจากแผ่นดินโลก แล้วพระองค์จะทรงทำอย่างไรเพื่อพระนามอันยิ่งใหญ่ของพระองค์?”
10And the LORD said unto Joshua: 'Get thee up; wherefore, now, art thou fallen upon thy face?
10พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโยชูวาว่า “ลุกขึ้น! ทำไมเจ้าจึงหมอบหน้าลงกับพื้นอย่างนี้?
11Israel hath sinned; yea, they have even transgressed My covenant which I commanded them; yea, they have even taken of the devoted thing; and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have even put it among their own stuff.
11อิสราเอลได้ทำบาป ทั้งละเมิดพันธสัญญาของเราที่เราสั่งไว้ ทั้งหยิบสิ่งของที่ถวายเพื่อทำลายไป ทั้งขโมยและหลอกลวง แล้วยังนำไปปะปนไว้กับทรัพย์สินของตน
12Therefore the children of Israel cannot stand before their enemies, they turn their backs before their enemies, because they are become accursed; I will not be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.
12เพราะฉะนั้น ชาวอิสราเอลจึงไม่อาจยืนหยัดต่อหน้าศัตรูได้ พวกเขาหันหลังหนีศัตรู เพราะพวกเขาเองกลายเป็นผู้ที่ต้องถูกทำลาย เราจะไม่อยู่กับพวกเจ้าอีกต่อไป ถ้าพวกเจ้าไม่ทำลายสิ่งของที่ถวายเพื่อทำลายให้หมดไปจากหมู่พวกเจ้า
13Up, sanctify the people, and say: Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow; for thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: There is a curse in the midst of thee, O Israel; thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.
13ลุกขึ้น! จงชำระประชาชนให้บริสุทธิ์ และบอกพวกเขาว่า ‘จงชำระตัวให้บริสุทธิ์สำหรับวันพรุ่งนี้ เพราะพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของอิสราเอลตรัสว่า “อิสราเอลเอ๋ย มีสิ่งของที่ถวายเพื่อทำลายอยู่ในหมู่เจ้า พวกเจ้าไม่อาจยืนหยัดต่อหน้าศัตรูได้ จนกว่าจะนำสิ่งของที่ถวายเพื่อทำลายออกไปจากหมู่พวกเจ้า”
14In the morning therefore ye shall draw near by your tribes; and it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come near by families; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come near by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come near man by man.
14ดังนั้น ในเวลาเช้า พวกเจ้าต้องเข้ามาใกล้ทีละเผ่า เผ่าที่พระยาห์เวห์ทรงเลือกต้องเข้ามาใกล้ทีละตระกูล ตระกูลที่พระยาห์เวห์ทรงเลือกต้องเข้ามาใกล้ทีละครัวเรือน และครัวเรือนที่พระยาห์เวห์ทรงเลือกต้องเข้ามาใกล้ทีละคน
15And it shall be that he that is taken with the devoted thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath; because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought a wanton deed in Israel.'
15คนที่ถูกชี้ตัวว่ามีสิ่งของที่ถวายเพื่อทำลายจะต้องถูกเผาด้วยไฟ ทั้งตัวเขาและทุกสิ่งที่เขามี เพราะเขาละเมิดพันธสัญญาของพระยาห์เวห์ และทำเรื่องน่าอับอายในอิสราเอล’”
16So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel near by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken.
16โยชูวาตื่นแต่เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้นและนำชาวอิสราเอลเข้ามาใกล้ทีละเผ่า เผ่ายูดาห์ถูกเลือก
17And he brought near the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zerahites. And he brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man; and Zabdi was taken.
17เขานำตระกูลต่าง ๆ ของเผ่ายูดาห์เข้ามา และตระกูลเศราห์ถูกเลือก แล้วเขานำตระกูลเศราห์เข้ามาทีละคน และศับดีถูกเลือก
18And he brought near his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.
18เขานำครัวเรือนของศับดีเข้ามาทีละคน และอาคานบุตรของคารมี ผู้เป็นบุตรของศับดี ผู้เป็นบุตรของเศราห์ จากเผ่ายูดาห์ ถูกเลือก
19And Joshua said unto Achan: 'My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and make confession unto Him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide nothing from me.'
19โยชูวาพูดกับอาคานว่า “ลูกเอ๋ย โปรดถวายเกียรติแด่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของอิสราเอลและสารภาพต่อพระองค์ บอกข้าพเจ้ามาเดี๋ยวนี้ว่าเจ้าได้ทำอะไร อย่าปิดบังข้าพเจ้า!”
20And Achan answered Joshua, and said: 'Of a truth I have sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done.
20อาคานตอบโยชูวาว่า “ข้าพเจ้าได้ทำบาปต่อพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของอิสราเอลจริง ๆ และนี่คือสิ่งที่ข้าพเจ้าทำ
21When I saw among the spoil a goodly Shinar mantle, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.'
21เมื่อข้าพเจ้าเห็นเสื้อคลุมบาบิโลนผืนงามอยู่ท่ามกลางของที่ริบมา พร้อมกับเงินสองร้อยเชเขล และทองคำแท่งรูปลิ่มหนักห้าสิบเชเขล ข้าพเจ้าก็อยากได้ จึงหยิบของเหล่านั้นมา ตอนนี้ของเหล่านั้นซ่อนอยู่ใต้ดินกลางเต็นท์ของข้าพเจ้า โดยมีเงินอยู่ข้างใต้”
22So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.
22โยชูวาจึงส่งผู้ส่งสารไป พวกเขาวิ่งไปที่เต็นท์ และพบว่าของเหล่านั้นซ่อนอยู่ในเต็นท์ของอาคาน โดยมีเงินอยู่ข้างใต้
23And they took them from the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel; and they laid them down before the LORD.
23พวกเขานำของเหล่านั้นออกมาจากกลางเต็นท์ นำไปให้โยชูวากับชาวอิสราเอลทั้งหมด และวางไว้ต่อหน้าพระยาห์เวห์
24And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the mantle, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up unto the valley of Achor.
24โยชูวากับชาวอิสราเอลทั้งหมดนำอาคานบุตรของเศราห์ เงิน เสื้อคลุม ทองคำแท่ง ลูกชาย ลูกสาว โค ลา แกะ เต็นท์ และทุกสิ่งที่เขามีขึ้นไปยังหุบเขาอาโคร
25And Joshua said: 'Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day.' And all Israel stoned him with stones; and they burned them with fire, and stoned them with stones.
25โยชูวาพูดว่า “ทำไมเจ้าจึงนำความเดือดร้อนมาให้พวกเรา? วันนี้พระยาห์เวห์จะทรงนำความเดือดร้อนมาให้เจ้า” ชาวอิสราเอลทั้งหมดเอาหินขว้างอาคาน แล้วเผาพวกเขาด้วยไฟ จากนั้นก็เอาหินขว้างพวกเขาอีก
26And they raised over him a great heap of stones, unto this day; and the LORD turned from the fierceness of His anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called The valley of Achor, unto this day.
26พวกเขากองหินใหญ่ทับเขาไว้ ซึ่งยังคงอยู่จนถึงทุกวันนี้ แล้วพระยาห์เวห์ทรงหันจากความกริ้วอันรุนแรงของพระองค์ ดังนั้นสถานที่นั้นจึงมีชื่อว่า “หุบเขาอาโคร” จนถึงทุกวันนี้
