1And it came to pass, when all the nation were clean passed over the Jordan, that the LORD spoke unto Joshua, saying:
1เมื่อคนทั้งชาติข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนไปหมดทุกคนแล้ว พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโยชูวาว่า
2'Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,
2“จงเลือกชายสิบสองคนจากประชาชน เผ่าละหนึ่งคน
3and command ye them, saying: Take you hence out of the midst of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood, twelve stones made ready, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging-place, where ye shall lodge this night.'
3แล้วสั่งพวกเขาว่า ‘จงนำหินสิบสองก้อนจากกลางแม่น้ำจอร์แดน ตรงจุดที่เท้าของบรรดาปุโรหิตยืนอยู่อย่างมั่นคง จงขนหินเหล่านั้นข้ามไปกับพวกเจ้า และวางไว้ในที่ซึ่งพวกเจ้าจะตั้งค่ายคืนนี้’”
4Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man;
4โยชูวาจึงเรียกชายสิบสองคนที่เขาได้เตรียมไว้จากชาวอิสราเอล เผ่าละหนึ่งคน
5and Joshua said unto them: 'Pass on before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take you up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;
5โยชูวาพูดกับพวกเขาว่า “จงเดินผ่านหน้าหีบของพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านเข้าไปกลางแม่น้ำจอร์แดน แล้วให้แต่ละคนยกหินหนึ่งก้อนขึ้นพาดบ่า ตามจำนวนเผ่าของชาวอิสราเอล
6that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask in time to come, saying: What mean ye by these stones?
6เพื่อหินเหล่านี้จะเป็นเครื่องหมายในหมู่พวกท่าน ในอนาคตเมื่อลูก ๆ ของพวกท่านถามว่า ‘หินเหล่านี้มีความหมายอะไรสำหรับพวกท่าน’
7then ye shall say unto them: Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off; and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.'
7พวกท่านจงบอกพวกเขาว่า ‘เพราะน้ำในแม่น้ำจอร์แดนถูกตัดขาดตรงหน้าหีบพันธสัญญาของพระยาห์เวห์ เมื่อหีบนั้นข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดน น้ำในแม่น้ำจอร์แดนก็ถูกตัดขาด หินเหล่านี้จะเป็นอนุสรณ์สำหรับชาวอิสราเอลตลอดไป’”
8And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as the LORD spoke unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.
8ชาวอิสราเอลทำตามที่โยชูวาสั่ง พวกเขานำหินสิบสองก้อนจากกลางแม่น้ำจอร์แดน ตามที่พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโยชูวาและตามจำนวนเผ่าของชาวอิสราเอล พวกเขาขนหินข้ามไปยังที่ตั้งค่ายและวางไว้ที่นั่น
9Joshua also set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests that bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there unto this day.
9โยชูวาตั้งหินสิบสองก้อนไว้กลางแม่น้ำจอร์แดน ตรงจุดที่เท้าของบรรดาปุโรหิตผู้แบกหีบพันธสัญญายืนอยู่ และหินเหล่านั้นยังอยู่ที่นั่นจนถึงทุกวันนี้
10And the priests that bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hastened and passed over.
10บรรดาปุโรหิตผู้แบกหีบยืนอยู่กลางแม่น้ำจอร์แดน จนทุกสิ่งที่พระยาห์เวห์ทรงสั่งโยชูวาให้บอกประชาชนสำเร็จครบถ้วน ตามที่โมเสสได้สั่งโยชูวาไว้ทุกประการ ประชาชนก็รีบข้ามไป
11And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed on, and the priests, before the people.
11เมื่อประชาชนทั้งหมดข้ามไปหมดทุกคนแล้ว บรรดาปุโรหิตก็แบกหีบของพระยาห์เวห์ข้ามไปต่อหน้าประชาชน
12And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, passed on armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spoke unto them;
12ชาวรูเบน ชาวกาด และคนครึ่งเผ่ามนัสเสห์ถืออาวุธข้ามไปนำหน้าชาวอิสราเอล ตามที่โมเสสบอกพวกเขาไว้
13about forty thousand ready armed for war passed on in the presence of the LORD unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.
13ชายประมาณสี่หมื่นคนพร้อมอาวุธสำหรับทำสงครามข้ามไปต่อหน้าพระยาห์เวห์ เพื่อไปรบในที่ราบเยรีโค
14On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.
14ในวันนั้นพระยาห์เวห์ทรงทำให้โยชูวายิ่งใหญ่ในสายตาของชาวอิสราเอลทั้งปวง ประชาชนยำเกรงโยชูวาตลอดชีวิตของเขา เหมือนที่เคยยำเกรงโมเสส
15And the LORD spoke unto Joshua, saying:
15พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโยชูวาว่า
16'Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan.'
16“จงสั่งบรรดาปุโรหิตผู้แบกหีบพันธสัญญาให้ขึ้นมาจากแม่น้ำจอร์แดน”
17Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying: 'Come ye up out of the Jordan.'
17โยชูวาจึงสั่งบรรดาปุโรหิตว่า “จงขึ้นมาจากแม่น้ำจอร์แดน!”
18And it came to pass, as the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up out of the midst of the Jordan, as soon as the soles of the priests' feet were drawn up unto the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned unto their place, and went over all its banks, as aforetime.
18เมื่อบรรดาปุโรหิตผู้แบกหีบพันธสัญญาของพระยาห์เวห์ขึ้นจากกลางแม่น้ำจอร์แดน และฝ่าเท้าของพวกเขาพ้นแม่น้ำขึ้นเหยียบพื้นดินแห้ง น้ำในแม่น้ำจอร์แดนก็ไหลกลับมาที่เดิมและเอ่อล้นตลิ่งเหมือนก่อน
19And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho.
19ประชาชนขึ้นจากแม่น้ำจอร์แดนในวันที่สิบของเดือนแรก และตั้งค่ายที่กิลกาลตรงเขตแดนด้านตะวันออกของเมืองเยรีโค
20And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, did Joshua set up in Gilgal.
20โยชูวาตั้งหินสิบสองก้อนที่พวกเขานำมาจากแม่น้ำจอร์แดนไว้ที่กิลกาล
21And he spoke unto the children of Israel, saying: 'When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying: What mean these stones?
21เขาพูดกับชาวอิสราเอลว่า “ในอนาคต เมื่อลูก ๆ ของพวกท่านถามบิดาของตนว่า ‘หินเหล่านี้หมายถึงอะไร’
22then ye shall let your children know, saying: Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.
22พวกท่านจงอธิบายให้ลูก ๆ ฟังว่า ‘อิสราเอลข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดนสายนี้มาบนพื้นแห้ง
23For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up from before us, until we were passed over,
23เพราะพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านทรงทำให้น้ำในแม่น้ำจอร์แดนแห้งไปต่อหน้าพวกท่านจนพวกท่านข้ามมา เหมือนที่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านทรงทำกับทะเลแดง ซึ่งทรงทำให้แห้งไปต่อหน้าพวกเราชาวอิสราเอลจนพวกเราข้ามมา
24that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty; that ye may fear the LORD your God for ever.'
24เพื่อชนชาติทั้งปวงบนแผ่นดินโลกจะได้รู้ว่าพระหัตถ์ของพระยาห์เวห์ทรงฤทธิ์ และเพื่อพวกท่านจะยำเกรงพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพวกท่านตลอดไป’”
