1And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, that were by the sea, heard how that the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until they were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
1و واقع شد که چون تمامی ملوک اموریانی که به آن طرف اردن به سمت مغرب بودند، و تمامی ملوک کنعانیانی که به کناره دریا بودند، شنیدند که خداوند آب اردن را پیش روی بنی‌اسرائیل خشکانیده بود تا ما عبور کردیم، دلهای ایشان گداخته شد و از ترس بنی‌اسرائیل، دیگر جان در ایشان نماند.
2At that time the LORD said unto Joshua: 'Make thee knives of flint, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.'
2در آن وقت، خداوند به یوشع گفت: «کاردها از سنگ چخماق برای خود بساز، و بنی‌اسرائیل را بار دیگر مختون ساز.»
3And Joshua made him knives of flint, and circumcised the children of Israel at Gibeath-ha-araloth.
3و یوشع کاردها ازسنگ چخماق ساخته، بنی‌اسرائیل را بر تل غلفه ختنه کرد.
4And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: all the people that came forth out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came forth out of Egypt.
4و سبب ختنه کردن یوشع این بود که تمام ذکوران قوم، یعنی تمام مردان جنگی که ازمصر بیرون آمدند به‌سر راه در صحرا مردند.
5For all the people that came out were circumcised; but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, had not been circumcised.
5اماتمامی قوم که بیرون آمدند مختون بودند، وتمامی قوم که در صحرا بعد از بیرون آمدن ایشان از مصر به‌سر راه مولود شدند، مختون نگشتند.
6For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the nation, even the men of war that came forth out of Egypt, were consumed, because they hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD; unto whom the LORD swore that He would not let them see the land which the LORD swore unto their fathers that He would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
6زیرا بنی‌اسرائیل چهل سال در بیابان راه می‌رفتند، تا تمامی آن طایفه، یعنی آن مردان جنگی که از مصر بیرون آمده بودند، تمام شدند. زانرو که آواز خداوند را نشنیدند و خداوند به ایشان قسم خورده، گفت: «شما را نمی گذارم که آن زمین را ببینید که خداوند برای پدران ایشان قسم خورده بود که آن را به ما بدهد، زمینی که به شیر و شهد جاری است.»
7And He raised up their children in their stead; them did Joshua circumcise; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised by the way.
7و اما پسران ایشان که در جای آنها برخیزانیده بود یوشع ایشان رامختون ساخت، زیرا نامختون بودند چونکه ایشان را در راه ختنه نکرده بودند.
8And it came to pass, when all the nation were circumcised, every one of them, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.
8و واقع شد که چون از ختنه کردن تمام قوم فارغ شدند، در جایهای خود در لشکرگاه ماندندتا شفا یافتند.
9And the LORD said unto Joshua: 'This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you.' Wherefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, unto this day.
9و خداوند به یوشع گفت: «امروزعار مصر را از روی شما غلطانیدم. از این سبب نام آن مکان تا امروز جلجال خوانده می‌شود.»
10And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal; and they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.
10و بنی‌اسرائیل در جلجال اردو زدند و عیدفصح را در شب روز چهاردهم ماه، در صحرای اریحا نگاه داشتند.
11And they did eat of the produce of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes and parched corn, in the selfsame day.
11و در فردای بعد از فصح درهمان روز، از حاصل کهنه زمین، نازکهای فطیر وخوشه های برشته شده خوردند.
12And the manna ceased on the morrow, after they had eaten of the produce of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
12و در فردای آن روزی که از حاصل زمین خوردند، من موقوف شد و بنی‌اسرائیل دیگر من نداشتند، و در آن سال از محصول زمین کنعان می‌خوردند.
13And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand; and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him: 'Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?'
13و واقع شد چون یوشع نزد اریحا بود که چشمان خود را بالا انداخته، دید که اینک مردی با شمشیر برهنه در دست خود پیش وی ایستاده بود. و یوشع نزد وی آمده، او را گفت: «آیا تو از ماهستی یا از دشمنان ما؟»
14And he said: 'Nay, but I am captain of the host of the LORD; I am now come.' And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said unto him: 'What saith my lord unto his servant?'
14گفت: «نی، بلکه من سردار لشکر خداوند هستم که الان آمدم.» پس یوشع روی به زمین افتاده، سجده کرد و به وی گفت: «آقایم به بنده خود چه می‌گوید؟»
15And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua: 'Put off thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy.' And Joshua did so.
15سردار لشکر خداوند به یوشع گفت که «نعلین خود را از پایت بیرون کن زیرا جایی که توایستاده‌ای مقدس است.» و یوشع چنین کرد.
