1And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the South.
1アブラムは、妻と、すべての持ち物、そしてロトと一緒に、エジプトを出てネゲブ地方へ上って行った。
2And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
2アブラムは家畜、銀、金を非常に多く持ち、たいへん豊かであった。
3And he went on his journeys from the South even to Beth-el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and Ai;
3彼は旅を続けて、ネゲブからベテルへ向かい、初めに天幕を張っていたベテルとアイの間の場所へ行った。
4unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first; and Abram called there on the name of the LORD.
4そこは、彼が以前に築いた祭壇の場所であった。そこでアブラムは主の御名を呼び求めた。
5And Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.
5アブラムと一緒に行ったロトもまた、羊の群れ、牛の群れ、天幕を持っていた。
6And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together; for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.
6その地は、彼らが一緒に住むには十分ではなかった。彼らの持ち物が多すぎて、一緒に住むことができなかったからである。
7And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelt then in the land.
7アブラムの家畜の牧者たちと、ロトの家畜の牧者たちの間に争いが起こった。その当時、カナン人とペリジ人がその地に住んでいた。
8And Abram said unto Lot: 'Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we are brethren.
8アブラムはロトに言った。「どうか、私とあなたの間、また私の牧者たちとあなたの牧者たちの間に、争いがないようにしよう。私たちは親族なのだから。
9Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me; if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou take the right hand, then I will go to the left.'
9全地があなたの前にあるではないか。どうか、私から別れてほしい。あなたが左へ行くなら、私は右へ行こう。あなたが右へ行くなら、私は左へ行こう。」
10And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou goest unto Zoar.
10ロトが目を上げてヨルダンの低地一帯を見渡すと、ツォアルに至るまで、どこもよく潤っていた。それは主がソドムとゴモラを滅ぼされる前のことで、主の園のように、またエジプトの地のようであった。
11So Lot chose him all the plain of the Jordan; and Lot journeyed east; and they separated themselves the one from the other.
11そこでロトは、ヨルダンの低地一帯を自分のために選び取った。ロトは東へ旅立ち、彼らは互いに別れた。
12Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the Plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.
12アブラムはカナンの地に住み、ロトは低地の町々に住んで、ソドムの近くまで天幕を張った。
13Now the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners against the LORD exceedingly.
13さて、ソドムの人々は主に対して極めて邪悪な罪人であった。
14And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him: 'Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward;
14ロトが別れて行った後、主はアブラムに言われた。「さあ、目を上げて、あなたのいる場所から北、南、東、西を見渡しなさい。
15for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
15あなたが見渡しているこのすべての地を、わたしはあなたとあなたの子孫に永遠に与える。
16And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth; so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
16わたしはあなたの子孫を地のちりのようにする。もし人が地のちりを数えることができるなら、あなたの子孫も数えることができるだろう。
17Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for unto thee will I give it.'
17さあ、立って、その地を縦と横に歩き回りなさい。わたしはそれをあなたに与えるからだ。」
18And Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the terebinths of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.
18アブラムは天幕を移し、ヘブロンにあるマムレの樫の木々のところに来て住んだ。そしてそこに、主のための祭壇を築いた。
