1THE BURDEN of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.
1マラキを通してイスラエルに臨んだ主 の宣告。
2I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say: 'Wherein hast Thou loved us?' Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD; yet I loved Jacob;
2「私はあなたがたを愛した」と主は言われる。 しかし、あなたがたは言う。「どのようにわれわれを愛されたのですか。」 主は言われる。「エサウはヤコブの兄ではなかったか。それでも私はヤコブを愛し、
3But Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.
3エサウを憎んだ。私は彼の山々を荒れ果てた所とし、その相続地を荒野のジャッカルに与えた。」
4Whereas Edom saith: 'We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places'; thus saith the LORD of hosts: They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called The border of wickedness, and The people whom the LORD execrateth for ever.
4エドムは言う。「われわれは打ち倒されたが、戻って廃墟を建て直そう。」しかし、万軍の主はこう言われる。「彼らは建てるが、私は打ち壊す。人々は彼らを『悪の地』、『主が永遠に憤られる民』と呼ぶ。」
5And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say: 'The LORD is great beyond the border of Israel.'
5あなたがたは自分の目でこれを見て言う。「主はイスラエルの国境を越えても大いなる方である。」
6A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master; if then I be a father, where is My honour? and if I be a master, where is My fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise My name. And ye say: 'Wherein have we despised Thy name?'
6「子は父を敬い、しもべは主人を敬う。それなら、私が父であるなら、私への敬意はどこにあるのか。私が主人であるなら、私への畏れはどこにあるのか」と万軍の主は、私の名を侮る祭司であるあなたがたに言われる。「あなたがたは言う。『われわれはどのようにあなたの名を侮ったのですか。』
7Ye offer polluted bread upon Mine altar. And ye say: 'Wherein have we polluted thee?' In that ye say: 'The table of the LORD is contemptible.'
7あなたがたは私の祭壇に汚れたパンをささげている。それでも言う。『われわれはどのようにあなたを汚したのですか。』あなたがたが、『主の食卓は卑しいものだ』とみなしていることによってである。
8And when ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it no evil! And when ye offer the lame and sick, is it no evil! Present it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee? or will he accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
8目の見えない動物をいけにえとしてささげるのは、悪ではないか。足の不自由なものや病気のものをささげるのは、悪ではないか。それをあなたの総督に差し出してみよ。彼はあなたを喜んで迎えるだろうか。あなたを好意をもって受け入れるだろうか」と万軍の主は言われる。
9And now, I pray you, entreat the favour of God that He may be gracious unto us! — This hath been of your doing. — Will He accept any of your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.
9「今、どうか神 の恵みを求めよ。神がわれわれを恵んでくださるように。このようなささげ物をあなたがたの手から受け取って、神があなたがたのだれかを好意をもって受け入れるだろうか」と万軍の主は言われる。
10Oh that there were even one among you that would shut the doors, that ye might not kindle fire on Mine altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
10「あなたがたの中に、だれか扉を閉ざす者がいればよいのに。そうすれば、あなたがたが私の祭壇にむなしく火を燃やすこともない。私はあなたがたを喜ばない」と万軍の主は言われる。「あなたがたの手からささげ物を受け入れることもない。
11For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same My name is great among the nations; and in every place offerings are presented unto My name, even pure oblations; for My name is great among the nations, saith the LORD of hosts.
11日の昇る所から沈む所まで、私の名は諸国民の間で大いなるものである。あらゆる場所で私の名のために香がたかれ、清いささげ物がささげられる。私の名は諸国民の間で大いなるものだからだ」と万軍の主は言われる。
12But ye profane it, in that ye say: 'The table of the LORD is polluted, and the fruit thereof, even the food thereof, is contemptible.'
12「しかし、あなたがたは、『主の食卓は汚れており、そこに供えられる食物も卑しいものだ』と言って、私の名を汚している。
13Ye say also: 'Behold, what a weariness is it!' and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye have brought that which was taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye bring the offering; should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.
13あなたがたはまた、『見よ、 なんという重荷だ』と言い、それを鼻であしらっている」と万軍の主は言われる。「あなたがたは奪い取ったもの、足の不自由なもの、病気のものを持って来て、ささげ物としている。私はそれをあなたがたの手から受け入れるべきだろうか」と主は言われる。
14But cursed be he that dealeth craftily, whereas he hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a blemished thing; for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and My name is feared among the nations.
14「群れの中に傷のない雄がいるのに、誓願を立てながら、欠陥のあるものを主 にいけにえとしてささげる欺く者は、のろわれる。私は大いなる王であり、私の名は諸国民の間で畏れられているからだ」と万軍の主は言われる。
