1THE WORDS of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
1テコアの牧者たちの一人であったアモスの言葉。彼が、ユダの王ウジヤの時代、イスラエルの王ヨアシュの子ヤロブアムの時代、地震の二年前に、イスラエルについて幻に見たものである。
2And he said: The LORD roareth from Zion, and uttereth His voice from Jerusalem; and the pastures of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.
2彼は言った。 「主 はシオンからほえ、 エルサレムから声を上げられる。 羊飼いの牧草地は嘆き、 カルメルの頂は枯れる。」
3For thus saith the LORD: For three transgressions of Damascus, yea, for four, I will not reverse it: because they have threshed Gilead with sledges of iron.
3主はこう言われる。 「ダマスコの三つの背きのため、いや、四つの背きのために、 私はその罰を取り消さない。 彼らが鉄の脱穀そりでギルアデを踏みにじったからだ。
4So will I send a fire into the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad;
4私はハザエルの家に火を送り、 それはベン・ハダドの宮殿を焼き尽くす。
5And I will break the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from Bikath-Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Beth-eden; and the people of Aram shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD.
5私はダマスコの門のかんぬきを折り、 アベンの谷から住民を、 エデンの家から王笏を握る者を断ち滅ぼす。 シリアの民はキルへ捕らえ移される」 と主は言われる。
6Thus saith the LORD: For three transgressions of Gaza, yea, for four, I will not reverse it: because they carried away captive a whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom.
6主はこう言われる。 「ガザの三つの背きのため、いや、四つの背きのために、 私はその罰を取り消さない。 彼らが民をことごとく捕らえ移し、 エドムに引き渡したからだ。
7So will I send a fire on the wall of Gaza, and it shall devour the palaces thereof;
7私はガザの城壁に火を送り、 それはその宮殿を焼き尽くす。
8And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon; and I will turn My hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.
8私はアシュドドから住民を、 アシュケロンから王笏を握る者を断ち滅ぼす。 私はエクロンに手を向け、 ペリシテ人の残りの者は滅びる」 と主なる神 は言われる。
9Thus saith the LORD: For three transgressions of Tyre, yea, for four, I will not reverse it: because they delivered up a whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant.
9主はこう言われる。 「ツロの三つの背きのため、いや、四つの背きのために、 私はその罰を取り消さない。 彼らが民をことごとくエドムに引き渡し、 兄弟の契約を覚えていなかったからだ。
10So will I send a fire on the wall of Tyre, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.
10私はツロの城壁に火を送り、 それはその宮殿を焼き尽くす。」
11Thus saith the LORD: For three transgressions of Edom, yea, for four, I will not reverse it: because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever.
11主はこう言われる。 「エドムの三つの背きのため、いや、四つの背きのために、 私はその罰を取り消さない。 エドムが剣をもって兄弟を追い、 兄弟へのあわれみをことごとく捨て、 怒りを絶えず燃やし、 憤りをいつまでも抱き続けたからだ。
12So will I send a fire upon Teman, and it shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.
12私はテマンに火を送り、 それはボツラの宮殿を焼き尽くす。」
13Thus saith the LORD: For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, yea, for four, I will not reverse it: because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border.
13主はこう言われる。 「アンモン人の三つの背きのため、いや、四つの背きのために、 私はその罰を取り消さない。 彼らが自分たちの領土を広げるために、 ギルアデの身ごもった女たちの腹を裂いたからだ。
14So will I kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;
14私はラバの城壁に火をつけ、 それはその宮殿を焼き尽くす。 戦いの日の叫び声とともに、 つむじ風の日の嵐とともに。
15And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the LORD.
15彼らの王は、 その首長たちとともに捕らえ移される」 と主は言われる。
