1THE WORD of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
1ペトエルの子ヨエルに臨んだ主 の言葉。
2Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers?
2長老たちよ、これを聞け。 この地に住むすべての者よ、耳を傾けよ。 このようなことが、あなたがたの時代に起こったことがあるか。 また、あなたがたの父祖の時代にあったか。
3Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
3このことをあなたがたの子どもたちに語れ。 子どもたちはその子どもたちに、 その子どもたちは、さらに次の世代に語り伝えよ。
4That which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the canker-worm eaten; and that which the canker-worm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.
4群がるいなごが食べ残したものを、大いなごが食べ、 大いなごが食べ残したものを、ばったが食べ、 ばったが食べ残したものを、毛虫が食べた。
5Awake, ye drunkards, and weep, and wail, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine, for it is cut off from your mouth.
5酒に酔う者たちよ、目を覚まして泣け。 ぶどう酒を飲むすべての者よ、甘いぶどう酒を惜しんで泣き叫べ。 それはもう、あなたがたの口に入らない。
6For a people is come up upon my land, mighty, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the jaw-teeth of a lioness.
6ある民が私の地に攻め上って来た。強く、数えきれないほどの民だ。 その歯は獅子の歯、 その牙は雌獅子の牙である。
7He hath laid my vine waste, and blasted my fig-tree; he hath made it clean bare, and cast it down, the branches thereof are made white.
7それは私のぶどうの木を荒らし、 私のいちじくの木の皮をはぎ取った。 その皮をすっかりはぎ取って投げ捨て、 枝を白くむき出しにした。
8Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
8若き日の夫を失い、 粗布をまとったおとめのように嘆け。
9The meal-offering and the drink-offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests mourn, even the LORD'S ministers.
9穀物のささげ物と注ぎのささげ物は、主の家から断たれた。 主に仕える祭司たちは嘆いている。
10The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
10畑は荒れ果て、 地は嘆く。穀物は滅び、 新しいぶどう酒は干上がり、 油も尽きようとしている。
11Be ashamed, O ye husbandmen, wail, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
11農夫たちよ、うろたえよ。 ぶどう畑を耕す者たちよ、泣き叫べ。 小麦と大麦を惜しんで。 畑の収穫は失われた。
12The vine is withered, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm-tree also, and the apple-tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered; for joy is withered away from the sons of men.
12ぶどうの木は枯れ、いちじくの木もしおれた。 ざくろの木も、なつめやしも、りんごの木も、 畑のすべての木が枯れた。 人々から喜びが消えうせた。
13Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests, wail, ye ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God; for the meal-offering and the drink-offering is withholden from the house of your God.
13祭司たちよ、粗布をまとって嘆け。 祭壇に仕える者たちよ、泣き叫べ。 私の神 に仕える者たちよ、来て、粗布をまとったまま夜を明かせ。 穀物のささげ物と注ぎのささげ物が、あなたがたの神の家から取り去られたからだ。
14Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land unto the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD.
14断食を聖別し、 聖なる集会を招集せよ。 長老たちと、この地に住むすべての者を、あなたがたの神、主の家に集め、 主に叫び求めよ。
15Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
15ああ、その日よ。 主の日は近い。 全能者からの破滅として、迫り来る。
16Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
16私たちの目の前で食物が断たれ、 私たちの神の家から喜びと楽しみが失われたではないか。
17The grains shrivel under their hoes; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.
17種は土の塊の下で腐り、 穀物倉は荒れ果て、 納屋は崩れた。穀物が枯れたからだ。
18How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
18なんと家畜はうめいていることか。 牛の群れは牧草がなく、途方に暮れ、 羊の群れも荒れ果てている。
19Unto Thee, O LORD, do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath set ablaze all the trees of the field.
19主よ、私はあなたに叫び求める。 火は荒野の牧草地を焼き尽くし、 炎は野のすべての木を焼いた。
20Yea, the beasts of the field pant unto Thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
20野の獣さえ、あなたを慕ってあえぐ。 水の流れは干上がり、 火は荒野の牧草地を焼き尽くした。
