1And it came to pass after these things, that God did prove Abraham, and said unto him: 'Abraham'; and he said: 'Here am I.'
1これらのことの後、神はアブラハムを試して、彼に言われた。「アブラハムよ。」 彼は言った。「ここにいる。」
2And He said: 'Take now thy son, thine only son, whom thou lovest, even Isaac, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt-offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.'
2神は言われた。「あなたの息子、あなたの愛するひとり子イサクを連れて、モリヤの地へ行きなさい。わたしがあなたに告げる山の一つで、彼を全焼のささげ物としてささげなさい。」
3And Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he cleaved the wood for the burnt-offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
3アブラハムは朝早く起き、ろばに鞍を置き、二人の若者と息子イサクを連れて行った。彼は全焼のささげ物のための薪を割り、立ち上がって、神が彼に告げられた場所へ向かった。
4On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
4三日目に、アブラハムは目を上げ、遠くにその場所を見た。
5And Abraham said unto his young men: 'Abide ye here with the ass, and I and the lad will go yonder; and we will worship, and come back to you.'
5アブラハムは若者たちに言った。「ろばと一緒にここに留まっていなさい。私と少年はあそこへ行き、礼拝をしてから、あなたがたのところへ戻って来る。」
6And Abraham took the wood of the burnt-offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took in his hand the fire and the knife; and they went both of them together.
6アブラハムは全焼のささげ物のための薪を取り、息子イサクに負わせた。彼は自分の手に火と刃物を持った。二人は一緒に歩いて行った。
7And Isaac spoke unto Abraham his father, and said: 'My father.' And he said: 'Here am I, my son.' And he said: 'Behold the fire and the wood; but where is the lamb for a burnt-offering?'
7イサクは父アブラハムに呼びかけた。「父上。」 彼は答えた。「ここにいる、わが子よ。」 イサクは言った。「火と薪はありますが、全焼のささげ物のための小羊はどこにあるのですか。」
8And Abraham said: 'God will provide Himself the lamb for a burnt-offering, my son.' So they went both of them together.
8アブラハムは言った。「わが子よ、神ご自身が全焼のささげ物のための小羊を備えてくださる。」こうして、二人は一緒に歩いて行った。
9And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built the altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar, upon the wood.
9彼らは神が彼に告げられた場所に着いた。アブラハムはそこに祭壇を築き、薪を並べ、息子イサクを縛り、祭壇の上の薪の上に彼を置いた。
10And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
10アブラハムは手を伸ばし、息子を屠るために刃物を取った。
11And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said: 'Abraham, Abraham.' And he said: 'Here am I.'
11主の使いは天から彼を呼んで言った。「アブラハム、アブラハム。」 彼は言った。「ここにいる。」
12And he said: 'Lay not thy hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him; for now I know that thou art a God-fearing man, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son, from Me.'
12御使いは言った。「少年に手を下してはならない。彼に何もしてはならない。あなたが神を恐れる者であることが、今わかったからだ。あなたは自分の息子、自分のひとり子を、わたしに惜しまなかった。」
13And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt-offering in the stead of his son.
13アブラハムが目を上げて見ると、後ろに一匹の雄羊がいて、角を茂みに引っ掛けていた。アブラハムは行ってその雄羊を取り、息子の代わりに全焼のささげ物としてささげた。
14And Abraham called the name of that place Adonai-jireh; as it is said to this day: 'In the mount where the LORD is seen.'
14アブラハムはその場所の名を「主は備えられる」と呼んだ。今日に至るまで、「主の山に備えがある」と言われている。
15And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham a second time out of heaven,
15主の使いは再び天からアブラハムを呼んで、
16and said: 'By Myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son,
16言った。「主はこう言われる。『わたしは自分自身にかけて誓った。あなたがこのことを行い、自分の息子、自分のひとり子を惜しまなかったので、
17that in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the seashore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
17わたしは必ずあなたを祝福し、あなたの子孫を、天の星のように、海辺の砂のように大いに増し加える。あなたの子孫は敵の城門を勝ち取る。
18and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast hearkened to My voice.'
18地上のすべての国々は、あなたの子孫によって祝福される。あなたがわたしの声に聞き従ったからである。』」
19So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beer-sheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beer-sheba.
19こうしてアブラハムは若者たちのところに戻り、彼らは立ち上がって一緒にベエル・シェバへ行った。アブラハムはベエル・シェバに住んだ。
20And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying: 'Behold, Milcah, she also hath borne children unto thy brother Nahor:
20これらのことの後、アブラハムに知らせがあった。「見よ、ミルカもまた、あなたの兄弟ナホルに子どもたちを産みました。
21Uz his first-born, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram;
21長子ウツ、その弟ブズ、アラムの父であるケムエル、
22and Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.'
22ケセド、ハゾ、ピルダシュ、イデラフ、ベトエルです。」
23And Bethuel begot Rebekah; these eight did Milcah bear to Nahor, Abraham's brother.
23ベトエルはリベカの父となった。これら八人を、ミルカはアブラハムの兄弟ナホルに産んだ。
24And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she also bore Tebah, and Gaham, and Tahash, and Maacah.
24レウマという名の彼のそばめもまた、テバ、ガハム、タハシュ、マアカを産んだ。
