1そのころ、バビロンの王であるバラダンの子メロダク・バラダンは、ヒゼキヤに手紙と贈り物を送った。ヒゼキヤが病気になり、回復したことを聞いたからである。
1At that time Merodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent a letter and a present to Hezekiah; for he heard that he had been sick, and was recovered.
2ヒゼキヤは彼らを喜び、自分の宝物の倉、銀、金、香料、貴重な油、武器庫のすべてと、宝物の中にあるすべてのものを彼らに見せた。ヒゼキヤが自分の家と全領土の中で彼らに見せなかったものは何一つなかった。
2And Hezekiah was glad of them, and showed them his treasure-house, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious oil, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures; there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah showed them not.
3その時、預言者イザヤがヒゼキヤ王のもとに来て、彼に尋ねた。「あの人々は何と言いましたか。どこからあなたのもとへ来たのですか。」 ヒゼキヤは言った。「彼らは私から遠く離れた国、バビロンから来ました。」
3Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him: 'What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee?' And Hezekiah said: 'They are come from a far country unto me, even from Babylon.'
4イザヤは尋ねた。「彼らはあなたの家で何を見ましたか。」 ヒゼキヤは答えた。「彼らは私の家にあるすべてのものを見ました。私の宝物のうち、彼らに見せなかったものは何一つありません。」
4Then said he: 'What have they seen in thy house?' And Hezekiah answered: 'All that is in my house have they seen; there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them.'
5そこでイザヤはヒゼキヤに言った。「万軍の主の言葉を聞きなさい。
5Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah: 'Hear the word of the LORD of hosts:
6『見よ、あなたの家にあるすべてのものと、あなたの父祖たちが今日まで蓄えてきたものが、バビロンへ運び去られる日々が来る。何一つ残されない』と主は言われる。
6Behold, the days come, that all that is in thy house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
7『また、あなたから生まれる息子たち、あなたがもうける息子たちの中からも連れ去られる者がいる。彼らはバビロンの王の宮殿で宦官となる。』」
7And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, whom thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be officers in the palace of the king of Babylon.'
8するとヒゼキヤはイザヤに言った。「あなたが語った主の言葉は良いです。」さらに彼は、「私の生きている間は平和と真実があるのだから」と言った。
8Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah: 'Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken.' He said moreover: 'If but there shall be peace and truth in my days.'
