1เศเดคียาห์ บุตรโยสิยาห์ ครองราชย์แทนโคนิยาห์ บุตรเยโฮยาคิม ซึ่งเนบูคัดเนสซาร์ กษัตริย์บาบิโลน ตั้งเป็นกษัตริย์ในดินแดนยูดาห์
1And Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king, instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
2แต่ทั้งเขา ข้าราชบริพาร และประชาชนในดินแดน ไม่ฟังถ้อยคำของพระยาห์เวห์ที่พระองค์กล่าวผ่านเยเรมีย์ผู้เผยพระวจนะ
2But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which He spoke by the prophet Jeremiah.
3กษัตริย์เศเดคียาห์ส่งเยฮูคัล บุตรเชเลมิยาห์ และเศฟันยาห์ บุตรมาอาเสยาห์ ปุโรหิต ไปหาเยเรมีย์ผู้เผยพระวจนะ บอกว่า “โปรดอธิษฐานต่อพระยาห์เวห์ พระเจ้าของพวกเรา เพื่อพวกเราเถิด”
3And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying: 'Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.'
4เวลานั้นเยเรมีย์ยังเข้าออกอยู่ท่ามกลางประชาชน เพราะพวกเขายังไม่ได้ขังเขาในคุก
4Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people; for they had not put him into prison.
5กองทัพฟาโรห์ออกจากอียิปต์มาแล้ว เมื่อชาวเคลเดียที่ล้อมเยรูซาเล็มได้ยินข่าว ก็ถอนทัพจากเยรูซาเล็ม
5And Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they broke up from Jerusalem.
6แล้วคำจากพระยาห์เวห์มาถึงเยเรมีย์ผู้เผยพระวจนะว่า
6Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying:
7“พระยาห์เวห์ พระเจ้าของอิสราเอล กล่าวดังนี้ ‘จงบอกกษัตริย์ยูดาห์ที่ส่งพวกเจ้ามาถามเราว่า “จงฟัง กองทัพฟาโรห์ที่ออกมาช่วยพวกเจ้าจะกลับไปอียิปต์ ดินแดนของตน
7'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto Me to inquire of Me: Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
8ชาวเคลเดียจะกลับมาต่อสู้กับเมืองนี้ จะยึดเมืองและเผาเมืองด้วยไฟ”’
8And the Chaldeans shall return, and fight against this city; and they shall take it, and burn it with fire.
9“พระยาห์เวห์กล่าวดังนี้ ‘อย่าหลอกตัวเองว่า “ชาวเคลเดียจะไปจากพวกเราแน่” เพราะพวกเขาจะไม่ไป
9Thus saith the LORD: Deceive not yourselves, saying: The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us; for they shall not depart.
10แม้พวกเจ้าตีทั้งกองทัพชาวเคลเดียที่ต่อสู้กับพวกเจ้า จนเหลือเพียงคนบาดเจ็บ แต่ละคนก็จะลุกขึ้นในกระโจมของตนและเผาเมืองนี้ด้วยไฟ’”
10For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet would they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.'
11เมื่อกองทัพชาวเคลเดียถอนทัพจากเยรูซาเล็มเพราะกลัวกองทัพฟาโรห์
11And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,
12เยเรมีย์ออกจากเยรูซาเล็มไปยังดินแดนเบนยามิน เพื่อรับส่วนแบ่งของตนที่นั่นท่ามกลางประชาชน
12then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive his portion there, in the midst of the people.
13เมื่อเขาอยู่ที่ประตูเบนยามิน นายทหารยามคนหนึ่งชื่ออิรียาห์ บุตรเชเลมิยาห์ บุตรฮานันยาห์ อยู่ที่นั่น เขาจับเยเรมีย์ผู้เผยพระวจนะ พูดว่า “ท่านกำลังแปรพักตร์ไปหาชาวเคลเดีย!”
13And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying: 'Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.'
14เยเรมีย์กล่าวว่า “ไม่จริง! ข้าพเจ้าไม่ได้แปรพักตร์ไปหาชาวเคลเดีย” แต่อิรียาห์ไม่ฟัง จับเยเรมีย์พาไปหาขุนนาง
14Then said Jeremiah: 'It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans'; but he hearkened not to him; so Irijah laid hold on Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
15ขุนนางโกรธเยเรมีย์ ทุบตีและขังเขาในบ้านของโยนาธาน อาลักษณ์ เพราะพวกเขาใช้บ้านนั้นเป็นคุก
15And the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.
16เมื่อเยเรมีย์เข้าไปในคุกใต้ดินและห้องขัง และอยู่ที่นั่นหลายวันแล้ว
16When Jeremiah was come into the dungeon-house, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;
17กษัตริย์เศเดคียาห์ก็ส่งคนไปพาเขาออกมา กษัตริย์ถามเขาอย่างลับ ๆ ในวังว่า “มีคำใดจากพระยาห์เวห์หรือไม่?” เยเรมีย์ตอบว่า “มี” และกล่าวอีกว่า “ท่านจะถูกมอบไว้ในมือกษัตริย์บาบิโลน”
17then Zedekiah the king sent, and fetched him; and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said: 'Is there any word from the LORD?' And Jeremiah said: 'There is.' He said also: 'Thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.'
18เยเรมีย์ยังกล่าวกับกษัตริย์เศเดคียาห์ว่า “ข้าพเจ้าทำผิดอะไรต่อท่าน ต่อข้าราชบริพารของท่าน หรือต่อประชาชนนี้ ท่านจึงขังข้าพเจ้าในคุก?
18Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah: 'Wherein have I sinned against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?
19บัดนี้ผู้เผยพระวจนะของท่านที่เผยพระวจนะแก่ท่านว่า ‘กษัตริย์บาบิโลนจะไม่มาต่อสู้กับท่านหรือดินแดนนี้’ อยู่ที่ไหน?
19Where now are your prophets that prophesied unto you, saying: The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?
20บัดนี้ กษัตริย์ผู้เป็นเจ้านายของข้าพเจ้า โปรดฟังเถิด ขอให้คำวิงวอนของข้าพเจ้าไปถึงท่าน อย่าส่งข้าพเจ้ากลับไปบ้านของโยนาธาน อาลักษณ์ เกรงว่าข้าพเจ้าจะตายที่นั่น”
20And now hear, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be presented before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.'
21กษัตริย์เศเดคียาห์จึงสั่งให้เอาเยเรมีย์ไปไว้ในลานทหารยาม พวกเขาให้ขนมปังเขาวันละก้อนจากถนนคนทำขนมปัง จนขนมปังทั้งหมดในเมืองหมดไป เยเรมีย์จึงอยู่ในลานทหารยาม
21Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard, and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
