1ตอนนี้ ข้าพเจ้าเปาโลเอง ขอร้องพวกคุณด้วยความถ่อมตนและความอ่อนโยนของพระคริสต์ ข้าพเจ้าผู้เมื่ออยู่ต่อหน้าพวกคุณดูต่ำต้อย แต่เมื่ออยู่ห่างกลับกล้าหาญต่อพวกคุณ
1Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
2ข้าพเจ้าขอร้องว่า เมื่อข้าพเจ้าอยู่กับพวกคุณ อย่าให้ข้าพเจ้าต้องแสดงความกล้าหาญด้วยความมั่นใจแบบที่ข้าพเจ้าตั้งใจจะใช้กับบางคน ผู้คิดว่าเราดำเนินชีวิตตามเนื้อหนัง
2But I beseech you , that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
3เพราะแม้เราดำเนินชีวิตอยู่ในเนื้อหนัง เราก็ไม่ได้ทำสงครามตามเนื้อหนัง
3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4เพราะอาวุธที่เราใช้ทำสงครามไม่ใช่อาวุธของเนื้อหนัง แต่มีพลังอย่างยิ่งต่อหน้าพระเจ้าในการทำลายป้อมปราการ
4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5เราทำลายความคิดที่มนุษย์สร้างขึ้น และสิ่งสูงส่งทุกอย่างที่ยกตัวต่อต้านความรู้เรื่องพระเจ้า และจับความคิดทุกอย่างเป็นเชลยให้เชื่อฟังพระคริสต์
5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
6และเราพร้อมจะลงโทษการไม่เชื่อฟังทุกอย่าง เมื่อการเชื่อฟังของพวกคุณครบถ้วนแล้ว
6And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
7พวกคุณมองแต่สิ่งที่อยู่ตรงหน้าหรือ? ถ้าใครมั่นใจในตัวเองว่าเขาเป็นของพระคริสต์ ก็ให้เขาคิดเรื่องนี้อีกครั้งด้วยตัวเองว่า เช่นเดียวกับที่เขาเป็นของพระคริสต์ เราก็เป็นของพระคริสต์ด้วย
7Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.
8เพราะถึงข้าพเจ้าจะอวดมากกว่านี้อีกบ้างเกี่ยวกับสิทธิอำนาจของเรา ซึ่งองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าประทานเพื่อเสริมสร้างพวกคุณ ไม่ใช่เพื่อทำลายพวกคุณ ข้าพเจ้าก็จะไม่อับอาย
8For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:
9ข้าพเจ้าพูดอย่างนี้เพื่อไม่ให้ดูเหมือนว่าข้าพเจ้าพยายามขู่พวกคุณให้กลัวด้วยจดหมาย
9That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.
10เพราะพวกเขาพูดว่า “จดหมายของเขาหนักแน่นและแข็งกร้าว แต่เมื่อพบตัวจริง เขาดูอ่อนแอ และคำพูดของเขาก็น่าดูหมิ่น”
10For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.
11คนเช่นนั้นจงคิดไว้ว่า เมื่อเราไม่อยู่ สิ่งที่เราพูดในจดหมายเป็นอย่างไร เมื่อเราอยู่ต่อหน้า การกระทำของเราก็จะเป็นอย่างนั้น
11Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.
12เราไม่กล้าจัดตัวเองไว้ในกลุ่ม หรือเปรียบเทียบตัวเองกับบางคนที่ยกย่องตัวเอง แต่พวกเขาวัดตัวเองด้วยตัวเอง และเปรียบเทียบตัวเองกับตัวเอง จึงไม่เข้าใจ
12For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
13แต่เราจะไม่อวดเกินขอบเขตที่เหมาะสม เราจะอวดภายในขอบเขตที่พระเจ้าทรงกำหนดให้เรา ซึ่งขอบเขตนั้นมาถึงพวกคุณด้วย
13But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.
14เราไม่ได้ก้าวล้ำเกินขอบเขต ราวกับว่าเราไปไม่ถึงพวกคุณ เพราะเราได้นำข่าวดีของพระคริสต์ไปถึงพวกคุณแล้ว
14For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure , as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:
15เราไม่อวดเกินขอบเขตโดยเอาผลงานของคนอื่นมาอวด แต่เราหวังว่า เมื่อความเชื่อของพวกคุณเติบโตขึ้น พวกคุณจะช่วยให้งานของเราขยายออกไปอย่างมากภายในขอบเขตของเรา
15Not boasting of things without our measure, that is , of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,
16เพื่อเราจะประกาศข่าวดีในดินแดนที่ไกลออกไปจากพวกคุณ ไม่ใช่อวดสิ่งที่คนอื่นทำสำเร็จไว้แล้ว
16To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand.
17แต่ “คนที่อวด ก็จงอวดในองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า”
17But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
18เพราะไม่ใช่คนที่รับรองตัวเองที่ได้รับการยอมรับ แต่เป็นคนที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงรับรอง
18For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
