1ส่วนเรื่องของที่ถวายแก่รูปเคารพ เรารู้ว่าเราทุกคนมีความรู้ ความรู้ทำให้คนหยิ่งผยอง แต่ความรักเสริมสร้างคน
1Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2ถ้าใครคิดว่าตนรู้อะไร เขาก็ยังไม่รู้อย่างที่ควรจะรู้
2And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3แต่คนที่รักพระเจ้า พระองค์ทรงรู้จักคนนั้น
3But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
4ดังนั้น เรื่องการกินของที่ถวายแก่รูปเคารพ เรารู้ว่ารูปเคารพไม่ได้เป็นอะไรจริง ๆ ในโลกนี้ และไม่มีพระเจ้าอื่นนอกจากพระเจ้าองค์เดียว
4As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
5เพราะแม้จะมีสิ่งที่เรียกกันว่า “เทพเจ้า” ไม่ว่าในสวรรค์หรือบนแผ่นดิน ตามที่มี “เทพเจ้า” มากมายและ “เจ้า” มากมาย
5For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6แต่สำหรับเรา มีพระเจ้าองค์เดียว คือพระบิดา ทุกสิ่งมาจากพระองค์ และเราอยู่เพื่อพระองค์ และมีองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าองค์เดียว คือพระเยซูคริสต์ ทุกสิ่งเกิดขึ้นโดยทางพระองค์ และเราก็มีชีวิตโดยทางพระองค์
6But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
7แต่ไม่ใช่ทุกคนที่มีความรู้นี้ บางคนจนถึงตอนนี้ยังติดอยู่กับความคิดเดิมเรื่องรูปเคารพ เมื่อกินอาหารนั้นจึงกินเหมือนเป็นของที่ถวายแก่รูปเคารพ และมโนธรรมของพวกเขาซึ่งอ่อนแอก็เป็นมลทิน
7Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
8แต่อาหารไม่ได้ทำให้เราเป็นที่ยอมรับต่อพระเจ้า ถ้าเราไม่กิน เราก็ไม่ได้ด้อยลง และถ้าเรากิน เราก็ไม่ได้ดีขึ้น
8But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
9แต่จงระวังให้ดี อย่าให้เสรีภาพของพวกคุณกลายเป็นเหตุให้คนอ่อนแอสะดุด
9But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
10เพราะถ้าคนที่มีมโนธรรมอ่อนแอเห็นท่านซึ่งมีความรู้นั่งกินอาหารในวิหารของรูปเคารพ เขาจะไม่เกิดความกล้าที่จะกินของที่ถวายแก่รูปเคารพ ทั้งที่มโนธรรมของเขายังอ่อนแออยู่หรือ?
10For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
11แล้วคนอ่อนแอคนนั้นก็พินาศเพราะความรู้ของท่าน ทั้งที่เขาเป็นพี่น้องซึ่งพระคริสต์ทรงตายเพื่อเขา
11And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12เมื่อพวกคุณทำบาปต่อพี่น้องอย่างนี้ และทำร้ายมโนธรรมของพวกเขาที่อ่อนแอ พวกคุณก็ทำบาปต่อพระคริสต์
12But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
13ดังนั้น ถ้าอาหารทำให้พี่น้องของข้าพเจ้าสะดุด ข้าพเจ้าจะไม่กินเนื้อสัตว์อีกเลย เพื่อจะไม่ทำให้พี่น้องของข้าพเจ้าสะดุด
13Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
