1پس برتری یهود چیست؟ و یا از ختنه چه فایده؟
1What advantage then hath the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision?
2بسیار از هر جهت؛ اول آنکه بدیشان کلام خدا امانت داده شده است.
2Much every way. First indeed, because the words of God were committed to them.
3زیرا که چه بگوییم اگر بعضی ایمان نداشتند؟ آیابی ایمانی‌ایشان امانت خدا را باطل می‌سازد؟
3For what if some of them have not believed? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God forbid.
4حاشا! بلکه خدا راستگو باشد و هر انسان دروغگو، چنانکه مکتوب است: «تا اینکه درسخنان خود مصدق شوی و در داوری خودغالب آیی.»
4But God is true; and every man a liar, as it is written, That thou mayest be justified in thy words, and mayest overcome when thou art judged.
5لکن اگر ناراستی ما عدالت خدا را ثابت می‌کند، چه گوییم؟ آیا خدا ظالم است وقتی که غضب می‌نماید؟ بطور انسان سخن می‌گویم.
5But if our injustice commend the justice of God, what shall we say? Is God unjust, who executeth wrath?
6حاشا! در این صورت خدا چگونه عالم راداوری خواهد کرد؟
6(I speak according to man.) God forbid: otherwise how shall God judge this world?
7زیرا اگر به دروغ من، راستی خدا برای جلال او افزون شود، پس چرا برمن نیز چون گناهکار حکم شود؟
7For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie, unto his glory, why am I also yet judged as a sinner?
8و چرا نگوییم، چنانکه بعضی بر ما افترا می‌زنند و گمان می‌برندکه ما چنین می‌گوییم، بدی بکنیم تا نیکویی حاصل شود؟ که قصاص ایشان به انصاف است.
8And not rather (as we are slandered, and as some affirm that we say) let us do evil, that there may come good? whose damnation is just.
9پس چه گوییم؟ آیا برتری داریم؟ نه به هیچ وجه! زیرا پیش ادعا وارد آوردیم که یهود ویونانیان هر دو به گناه گرفتارند.
9What then? Do we excel them? No, not so. For we have charged both Jews, and Greeks, that they are all under sin.
10چنانکه مکتوب است که «کسی عادل نیست، یکی هم نی.
10As it is written: There is not any man just.
11کسی فهیم نیست، کسی طالب خدا نیست.
11There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12همه گمراه و جمیع باطل گردیده‌اند. نیکوکاری نیست یکی هم نی.
12All have turned out of the way; they are become unprofitable together: there is none that doth good, there is not so much as one.
13گلوی ایشان گور گشاده است و به زبانهای خود فریب می‌دهند. زهر مار در زیر لب ایشان است،
13Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have dealt deceitfully. The venom of asps is under their lips.
14ودهان ایشان پر از لعنت و تلخی است.
14Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15پایهای ایشان برای خون ریختن شتابان است.
15Their feet swift to shed blood:
16هلاکت و پریشانی در طریقهای ایشان است،
16Destruction and misery in their ways:
17و طریق سلامتی را ندانسته‌اند.
17And the way of peace they have not known:
18خدا ترسی درچشمانشان نیست.»
18There is no fear of God before their eyes.
19الان آگاه هستیم که آنچه شریعت می‌گوید، به اهل شریعت خطاب می‌کند تا هر دهانی بسته شود و تمام عالم زیر قصاص خدا آیند.
19Now we know, that what things soever the law speaketh, it speaketh to them that are in the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be made subject to God.
20ازآنجا که به اعمال شریعت هیچ بشری در حضوراو عادل شمرده نخواهد شد، چونکه از شریعت دانستن گناه است.
20Because by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified before him. For by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21لکن الحال بدون شریعت، عدالت خداظاهر شده است، چنانکه تورات و انبیا بر آن شهادت می‌دهند؛
21But now without the law the justice of God is made manifest, being witnessed by the law and the prophets.
22یعنی عدالت خدا که بوسیله ایمان به عیسی مسیح است، به همه و کل آنانی که ایمان آورند. زیرا که هیچ تفاوتی نیست،
22Even the justice of God, by faith of Jesus Christ, unto all and upon all them that believe in him: for there is no distinction:
23زیراهمه گناه کرده‌اند واز جلال خدا قاصر می‌باشند،
23For all have sinned, and do need the glory of God.
24و به فیض او مجان عادل شمرده می‌شوند به وساطت آن فدیه‌ای که در عیسی مسیح است.
24Being justified freely by his grace, through the redemption, that is in Christ Jesus,
25که خدا او را از قبل معین کرد تا کفاره باشد به واسطه ایمان به وسیله خون او تا آنکه عدالت خود را ظاهر سازد، به‌سبب فرو گذاشتن خطایای سابق در حین تحمل خدا،
25Whom God hath proposed to be a propitiation, through faith in his blood, to the shewing of his justice, for the remission of former sins,
26برای اظهار عدالت خود در زمان حاضر، تا او عادل شود و عادل شمارد هرکسی را که به عیسی ایمان آورد.
26Through the forbearance of God, for the shewing of his justice in this time; that he himself may be just, and the justifier of him, who is of the faith of Jesus Christ.
27پس جای فخر کجا است؟ برداشته شده است! به کدام شریعت؟ آیا به شریعت اعمال؟ نی بلکه به شریعت ایمان.
27Where is then thy boasting? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith.
28زیرا یقین می‌دانیم که انسان بدون اعمال شریعت، محض ایمان عادل شمرده می‌شود.
28For we account a man to be justified by faith, without the works of the law.
29آیا او خدای یهود است فقط؟ مگر خدای امت‌ها هم نیست؟ البته خدای امت‌ها نیز است.
29Is he the God of the Jews only? Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also.
30زیرا واحد است خدایی که اهل ختنه را از ایمان، و نامختونان را به ایمان عادل خواهد شمرد.
30For it is one God, that justifieth circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
31پس آیا شریعت را به ایمان باطل می‌سازیم؟ حاشا! بلکه شریعت رااستوار می‌داریم.
31Do we, then, destroy the law through faith? God forbid: but we establish the law.
