1Basi, Myahudi ana nini zaidi kuliko watu wengine? Au kutahiriwa kuna faida gani?
1What advantage then hath the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision?
2Naam, iko faida kwa kila upande. Kwanza, Mungu aliwakabidhi Wayahudi ujumbe wake.
2Much every way. First indeed, because the words of God were committed to them.
3Lakini itakuwaje iwapo baadhi yao hawakuwa waaminifu? Je, jambo hilo litaondoa uaminifu wa Mungu?
3For what if some of them have not believed? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God forbid.
4Hata kidogo! Mungu hubaki mwaminifu daima, ingawaje kila binadamu ni mwongo. Kama Maandiko Matakatifu yasemavyo: “Kila usemapo, maneno yako ni ya haki; na katika hukumu, wewe hushinda.”
4But God is true; and every man a liar, as it is written, That thou mayest be justified in thy words, and mayest overcome when thou art judged.
5Lakini, ikiwa uovu wetu unathibitisha kwamba Mungu anatenda kwa haki, tutasema nini? Je, tutasema kwamba anakosa haki akituadhibu? (Hapa naongea kibinadamu).
5But if our injustice commend the justice of God, what shall we say? Is God unjust, who executeth wrath?
6Hata kidogo! Ingekuwa hivyo, Mungu angewezaje kuuhukumu ulimwengu?
6(I speak according to man.) God forbid: otherwise how shall God judge this world?
7Labda utasema: “Ikiwa ukosefu wa uaminifu kwa upande wangu unamdhihirisha Mungu kuwa mwaminifu zaidi na hivyo kumpatia utukufu, basi singepaswa kuhukumiwa kuwa mwenye dhambi!”
7For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie, unto his glory, why am I also yet judged as a sinner?
8Ni sawa na kusema: tufanye maovu ili tupate mema! Ndivyo wengine walivyotukashifu kwa kutushtaki kwamba tumefundisha hivyo. Watahukumiwa wanavyostahili!
8And not rather (as we are slandered, and as some affirm that we say) let us do evil, that there may come good? whose damnation is just.
9Tuseme nini, basi? Je, sisi Wayahudi ni bora zaidi kuliko wengine? Hata kidogo! Kwa maana nimekwisha bainisha hapo mwanzoni kwamba Wayahudi na watu wa mataifa mengine wote wako chini ya utawala wa dhambi.
9What then? Do we excel them? No, not so. For we have charged both Jews, and Greeks, that they are all under sin.
10Kama Maandiko Matakatifu yasemavyo: “Hakuna hata mmoja aliye mwadilifu!
10As it is written: There is not any man just.
11Hakuna mtu anayeelewa, wala anayemtafuta Mungu.
11There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12Wote wamepotoka wote wamekosa; hakuna atendaye mema, hakuna hata mmoja.
12All have turned out of the way; they are become unprofitable together: there is none that doth good, there is not so much as one.
13Makoo yao ni kama kaburi wazi, ndimi zao zimejaa udanganyifu, midomoni mwao mwatoka maneno yenye sumu kama ya nyoka.
13Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have dealt deceitfully. The venom of asps is under their lips.
14Vinywa vyao vimejaa laana chungu.
14Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15Miguu yao iko mbioni kumwaga damu,
15Their feet swift to shed blood:
16popote waendapo husababisha maafa na mateso;
16Destruction and misery in their ways:
17njia ya amani hawaijui.
17And the way of peace they have not known:
18Hawajali kabisa kumcha Mungu.”
18There is no fear of God before their eyes.
19Tunajua kwamba Sheria huwahusu walio chini ya Sheria hiyo, hata hawawezi kuwa na kisingizio chochote, na ulimwengu wote uko chini ya hukumu ya Mungu.
19Now we know, that what things soever the law speaketh, it speaketh to them that are in the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be made subject to God.
20Maana hakuna binadamu yeyote anayekubaliwa kuwa mwadilifu mbele yake Mungu kwa kuishika Sheria; kazi ya Sheria ni kumwonyesha tu mtu kwamba ametenda dhambi.
20Because by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified before him. For by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21Lakini sasa, njia ya Mungu ya kuwakubali watu kuwa waadilifu imekwisha dhihirishwa, tena bila kutegemea Sheria. Sheria na manabii hushuhudia jambo hili.
21But now without the law the justice of God is made manifest, being witnessed by the law and the prophets.
22Mungu huwakubali watu kuwa waadilifu kwa njia ya imani yao kwa Yesu Kristo; Mungu hufanya hivyo kwa wote wanaoamini; hakuna ubaguzi wowote.
22Even the justice of God, by faith of Jesus Christ, unto all and upon all them that believe in him: for there is no distinction:
23Watu wote wametenda dhambi na wametindikiwa utukufu wa Mungu.
23For all have sinned, and do need the glory of God.
24Lakini kwa zawadi ya neema ya Mungu, watu wote hukubaliwa kuwa waadilifu kwa njia ya Yesu Kristo anayewakomboa.
24Being justified freely by his grace, through the redemption, that is in Christ Jesus,
25Mungu alimtoa Yesu kusudi, kwa damu yake, awe njia ya kuwaondolea watu dhambi zao kwa imani yao kwake. Alifanya hivyo ili apate kuonyesha kwamba yeye ni mwadilifu. Hapo zamani Mungu alikuwa mvumilivu bila kuzijali dhambi za watu;
25Whom God hath proposed to be a propitiation, through faith in his blood, to the shewing of his justice, for the remission of former sins,
26lakini sasa, wakati huu, anazikabili dhambi za watu apate kuonyesha uadilifu wake. Kwa namna hiyo Mungu mwenyewe huonyesha kwamba yeye ni mwadilifu na kwamba humkubali kuwa mwadilifu mtu yeyote anayemwamini Yesu.
26Through the forbearance of God, for the shewing of his justice in this time; that he himself may be just, and the justifier of him, who is of the faith of Jesus Christ.
27Basi, tunaweza kujivunia nini? Hakuna! Kwa nini? Je, kwa sababu ya kutimiza Sheria? La! Bali kwa sababu tunaamini.
27Where is then thy boasting? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith.
28Maana mtu hukubaliwa kuwa mwadilifu kwa imani, wala si kwa kutimiza matakwa ya Sheria.
28For we account a man to be justified by faith, without the works of the law.
29Au je, Mungu nu Mungu wa Wayahudi tu, ama pia wa watu wa mataifa mengine? Naam, wa mataifa mengine pia.
29Is he the God of the Jews only? Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also.
30Mungu ni mmoja, naye atawakubali Wayahudi kuwa waadilifu kwa imani yao, na watu wa mataifa mengine pia kwa imani yao.
30For it is one God, that justifieth circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
31Je, tunaitumia imani kuibatilisha Sheria? Hata kidogo; bali tunaipa Sheria thamani yake kamili.
31Do we, then, destroy the law through faith? God forbid: but we establish the law.
