1イスラエルの子らよ、主の言葉を聞け。 主はこの地の住民を訴える。 「まことに、この地には真実も慈しみもなく、 神を知ることもない。
1Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel! for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2呪い、偽り、殺人、盗み、姦淫。 彼らは戒めを破り、流血に流血を重ねる。
2Swearing and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery! they break all bounds, and blood toucheth blood.
3それゆえ、この地は嘆き、 そこに住む者は皆、衰え果てる。 そこにいるすべての生き物も、 野の獣も空の鳥も衰え、 海の魚さえ死に絶える。
3Therefore doth the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein doth languish, with the beasts of the field, and the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also are taken away.
4しかし、だれも訴えてはならない。 だれも人を責めてはならない。 あなたの民は、祭司と言い争う者のようだ。
4Yet let no man strive, neither let any man reprove; for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.
5あなたは昼につまずき、 預言者も夜、あなたとともにつまずく。 私はあなたの母を滅ぼす。
5Therefore shalt thou stumble in the day, and the prophet also shall stumble with thee in the night; and I will destroy thy mother.
6私の民は知識を欠いたために滅ぼされる。 あなたが知識を退けたので、私もあなたを退け、 もはや私の祭司とはしない。 あなたが自分の神の律法を忘れたので、 私もあなたの子どもたちを忘れる。
6My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to Me; seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.
7彼らは増えれば増えるほど、 私に対して罪を犯した。 私は彼らの栄光を恥に変える。
7The more they were increased, the more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame.
8彼らは私の民の罪を食べ、 民の不義に心を向けている。
8They feed on the sin of My people, and set their heart on their iniquity.
9民も祭司も同じようになる。 私は彼らの歩みを罰し、 彼らの行いに報いる。
9And it is like people, like priest; and I will punish him for his ways, and will recompense him his doings.
10彼らは食べても満たされない。 淫行をしても、増えることはない。 主に従うことを捨てたからだ。
10And they shall eat, and not have enough, they shall commit harlotry, and shall not increase; because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.
11淫行とぶどう酒と新しいぶどう酒は、 悟りを奪う。
11Harlotry, wine, and new wine take away the heart.
12私の民は木に伺いを立て、 杖に答えを求める。 まことに、淫行の霊が彼らを迷わせ、 彼らは自分たちの神に不実を働いている。
12My people ask counsel at their stock, and their staff declareth unto them; for the spirit of harlotry hath caused them to err, and they have gone astray from under their God.
13彼らは山々の頂でいけにえをささげ、 丘の上で、樫、ポプラ、テレビンの木の下で香をたく。 その木陰が心地よい。 それゆえ、あなたがたの娘たちは淫行を行い、 あなたがたの嫁たちは姦淫を犯す。
13They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and offer upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because the shadow thereof is good; therefore your daughters commit harlotry, and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.
14あなたがたの娘たちが淫行をしても、私は罰しない。 あなたがたの嫁たちが姦淫を犯しても、罰しない。 男たち自身が娼婦たちと連れ立ち、 神殿娼婦たちとともにいけにえをささげているからだ。 悟りのない民は滅びに陥る。
14I will not punish your daughters when they commit harlotry, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery; for they themselves consort with lewd women, and they sacrifice with harlots; and the people that is without understanding is distraught.
15イスラエルよ、あなたが淫行を行っても、 ユダに罪を犯させてはならない。 ギルガルに来てはならず、 ベテ・アベンに上ってはならない。 『主は生きておられる』と誓ってはならない。
15Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah become guilty; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Beth-aven, nor swear: 'As the LORD liveth.'
16イスラエルは強情な雌牛のように、 ひどく頑なに振る舞った。 今、主が彼らを、広い牧場の小羊のように養えるだろうか。
16For Israel is stubborn like a stubborn heifer; now shall the LORD feed them as a lamb in a large place?
17エフライムは偶像と結びついている。 そのままにしておけ。
17Ephraim is joined to idols; let him alone.
18彼らの酒は酸っぱくなり、 それでも彼らは淫行をやめない。 その支配者たちは恥をこよなく愛している。
18When their carouse is over, they take to harlotry; her rulers deeply love dishonour.
19風がその翼で彼女を包んだ。 彼らは自分たちのいけにえのゆえに恥を受ける。
19The wind hath bound her up in her skirts; and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
