1พระดำรัสของพระยาห์เวห์มาถึงข้าพเจ้าว่า
1And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:
2“มนุษย์เอ๋ย ไม้เถาองุ่นดีกว่าไม้ชนิดอื่นอย่างไร? กิ่งเถาองุ่นที่อยู่ท่ามกลางต้นไม้ในป่ามีอะไรเหนือกว่าต้นอื่น?
2'Son of man, what is the vine-tree more than any tree, the vine branch which grew up among the trees of the forest?
3คนจะเอาไม้นั้นไปทำของใช้ได้หรือ? จะเอามาทำหมุดสำหรับแขวนภาชนะได้หรือ?
3Shall wood be taken thereof to make any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?
4ดูสิ มันถูกโยนเข้าไฟเป็นเชื้อเพลิง ไฟเผาปลายทั้งสองข้าง และตรงกลางก็ไหม้แล้ว ยังจะใช้ทำอะไรได้อีกหรือ?
4Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire hath devoured both the ends of it, and the midst of it is singed; is it profitable for any work?
5ตอนที่ยังสมบูรณ์ก็ใช้ทำอะไรไม่ได้อยู่แล้ว ยิ่งเมื่อถูกไฟเผาไหม้เช่นนี้ จะยังใช้ทำอะไรได้อีกหรือ?”
5Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work; how much less, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is singed, shall it yet be meet for any work?
6เพราะฉะนั้น พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสดังนี้ “ไม้เถาองุ่นท่ามกลางต้นไม้ในป่าซึ่งเราโยนเข้าไฟเป็นเชื้อเพลิงเป็นอย่างไร เราก็จะทำกับชาวเยรูซาเล็มอย่างนั้น
6Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD: As the vine-tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so do I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
7เราจะหันหน้าต่อต้านพวกเขา พวกเขาหนีออกจากไฟหนึ่งได้ แต่อีกไฟจะเผาผลาญพวกเขา เมื่อเราหันหน้าต่อต้านพวกเขา พวกเจ้าจะรู้ว่าเราคือพระยาห์เวห์
7And I will set My face against them; out of the fire are they come forth, and the fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I set My face against them.
8เราจะทำให้แผ่นดินร้างเปล่า เพราะพวกเขาประพฤติไม่ซื่อสัตย์” พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสดังนี้
8And I will make the land desolate, because they have acted treacherously, saith the Lord GOD.'
