1สงครามระหว่างวงศ์วานซาอูลกับวงศ์วานดาวิดยืดเยื้อ ดาวิดเข้มแข็งขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ ส่วนวงศ์วานซาอูลอ่อนกำลังลงเรื่อย ๆ
1Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.
2ดาวิดมีบุตรชายเกิดที่เฮโบรน บุตรคนแรกคืออัมโนน เกิดจากอาหิโนอัมชาวยิสเรเอล
2¶ And unto David were sons born in Hebron: and his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess;
3คนที่สองคือคิเลอาบ เกิดจากอาบีกายิลภรรยาของนาบาลชาวคารเมล คนที่สามคืออับซาโลม เกิดจากมาอาคาห์บุตรสาวของทัลมัยกษัตริย์แห่งเกชูร์
3And his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;
4คนที่สี่คืออาโดนียาห์ เกิดจากฮักกีท คนที่ห้าคือเชฟาทิยาห์ เกิดจากอาบีทัล
4And the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;
5คนที่หกคืออิทเรอัม เกิดจากเอกลาห์ภรรยาของดาวิด ทั้งหมดนี้เป็นบุตรชายของดาวิดที่เกิดในเฮโบรน
5And the sixth, Ithream, by Eglah David’s wife. These were born to David in Hebron.

6¶ And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong for the house of Saul.
7ซาอูลมีนางสนมชื่อริสปาห์ บุตรสาวของอัยยาห์ อิชโบเชทถามอับเนอร์ว่า “ทำไมเจ้าถึงไปหลับนอนกับนางสนมของพ่อข้า?”
7And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and Ish-bosheth said to Abner, Wherefore hast thou gone in unto my father’s concubine?
8อับเนอร์โกรธมากที่อิชโบเชทพูดอย่างนั้น เขาตอบว่า “ข้าเป็นหัวสุนัขของยูดาห์หรืออย่างไร? ทุกวันนี้ข้ายังแสดงความเมตตาต่อวงศ์วานของซาอูลผู้เป็นพ่อของเจ้า ต่อพี่น้องและมิตรสหายของซาอูล ไม่ได้ส่งตัวเจ้าให้ดาวิด แต่วันนี้เจ้ากลับกล่าวหาข้าเรื่องผู้หญิงคนนี้!
8Then was Abner very wroth for the words of Ish-bosheth, and said, Am I a dog’s head, which against Judah do shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman?
9ขอให้พระเจ้าลงโทษอับเนอร์ และเพิ่มโทษให้หนักยิ่งขึ้น หากข้าไม่ทำให้ดาวิดตามที่พระยาห์เวห์ทรงสาบานไว้กับเขา
9So do God to Abner, and more also, except, as the LORD hath sworn to David, even so I do to him;
10คือย้ายอาณาจักรจากวงศ์วานซาอูล และตั้งบัลลังก์ของดาวิดเหนืออิสราเอลกับยูดาห์ ตั้งแต่ดานจนถึงเบเออร์เชบา”
10To translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beer-sheba.
11อิชโบเชทไม่กล้าตอบอับเนอร์อีกแม้แต่คำเดียว เพราะกลัวเขา
11And he could not answer Abner a word again, because he feared him.
12อับเนอร์ส่งคนไปหาดาวิดในนามของตน พร้อมข้อความว่า “แผ่นดินนี้เป็นของใคร?” แล้วบอกว่า “ทำพันธมิตรกับข้าเถิด แล้วข้าจะช่วยนำอิสราเอลทั้งหมดมาอยู่ฝ่ายท่าน”
12¶ And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also , Make thy league with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with thee, to bring about all Israel unto thee.
13ดาวิดตอบว่า “ดี ข้าจะทำข้อตกลงกับเจ้า แต่มีข้อแม้อย่างหนึ่ง คือเมื่อเจ้ามาพบข้า เจ้าต้องพามีคาลบุตรสาวของซาอูลมาด้วย มิฉะนั้นข้าจะไม่พบเจ้า”
13¶ And he said, Well; I will make a league with thee: but one thing I require of thee, that is, Thou shalt not see my face, except thou first bring Michal Saul’s daughter, when thou comest to see my face.
14ดาวิดส่งคนไปหาอิชโบเชทบุตรของซาอูลด้วยว่า “ส่งมีคาลภรรยาของข้าคืนมา ข้าได้นางมาเป็นภรรยาด้วยหนังหุ้มปลายอวัยวะเพศของชาวฟีลิสเตียหนึ่งร้อยชิ้น”
14And David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth Saul’s son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines.
15อิชโบเชทจึงส่งคนไปรับนางมาจากพัลทีเอลบุตรลาอิช สามีของนาง
15And Ish-bosheth sent, and took her from her husband, even from Phaltiel the son of Laish.
16สามีของนางเดินร้องไห้ตามนางไปจนถึงบาฮูริม อับเนอร์จึงบอกเขาว่า “กลับไปเสีย!” เขาก็กลับไป
16And her husband went with her along weeping behind her to Bahurim. Then said Abner unto him, Go, return. And he returned.
17อับเนอร์พูดกับผู้อาวุโสของอิสราเอลว่า “ก่อนหน้านี้พวกท่านอยากให้ดาวิดเป็นกษัตริย์เหนือพวกท่าน
17¶ And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought for David in times past to be king over you:
18บัดนี้จงทำเถิด เพราะพระยาห์เวห์ตรัสถึงดาวิดว่า ‘เราจะช่วยประชาชนอิสราเอลของเราให้พ้นจากเงื้อมมือชาวฟีลิสเตียและศัตรูทั้งหมดของพวกเขา โดยมือของดาวิดผู้รับใช้ของเรา’”
18Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.
19อับเนอร์ยังพูดกับชาวเบนยามินด้วย แล้วไปพบดาวิดที่เฮโบรน เล่าทุกสิ่งที่อิสราเอลและวงศ์วานเบนยามินเห็นชอบ
19And Abner also spake in the ears of Benjamin: and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and that seemed good to the whole house of Benjamin.
20อับเนอร์มาหาดาวิดที่เฮโบรนพร้อมชายยี่สิบคน ดาวิดจัดงานเลี้ยงให้เขาและคนที่มาด้วย
20So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. And David made Abner and the men that were with him a feast.
21อับเนอร์พูดกับดาวิดว่า “ข้าจะไปเรียกอิสราเอลทั้งหมดมาหานายของข้าผู้เป็นกษัตริย์ เพื่อพวกเขาจะได้ทำพันธสัญญากับท่าน แล้วท่านจะได้ครองราชย์เหนือทุกสิ่งที่ท่านปรารถนา” ดาวิดส่งอับเนอร์กลับไป และเขาจากไปโดยสันติ
21And Abner said unto David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel unto my lord the king, that they may make a league with thee, and that thou mayest reign over all that thine heart desireth. And David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.

22¶ And, behold, the servants of David and Joab came from pursuing a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace.
23เมื่อโยอาบกับกองทหารทั้งหมดที่มากับเขากลับมา มีคนบอกโยอาบว่า “อับเนอร์บุตรเนอร์มาพบกษัตริย์ และกษัตริย์ส่งเขากลับไป เขาจากไปโดยสันติ”
23When Joab and all the host that was with him were come, they told Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he hath sent him away, and he is gone in peace.
24โยอาบเข้าไปหากษัตริย์แล้วถามว่า “ท่านทำอะไรลงไป? อับเนอร์มาหาท่าน แล้วทำไมท่านถึงปล่อยให้เขากลับไป?
24Then Joab came to the king, and said, What hast thou done? behold, Abner came unto thee; why is it that thou hast sent him away, and he is quite gone?
25ท่านก็รู้จักอับเนอร์บุตรเนอร์ เขามาเพื่อหลอกท่าน สืบว่าท่านไปไหนมาไหน และรู้ทุกอย่างที่ท่านทำ”
25Thou knowest Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive thee, and to know thy going out and thy coming in, and to know all that thou doest.
26เมื่อโยอาบออกจากดาวิด เขาส่งคนไปตามอับเนอร์ พวกเขาพาตัวอับเนอร์กลับจากบ่อน้ำสิราห์ แต่ดาวิดไม่รู้เรื่องนี้
26And when Joab was come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, which brought him again from the well of Sirah: but David knew it not.
27เมื่ออับเนอร์กลับมาถึงเฮโบรน โยอาบพาเขาแยกไปกลางประตูเมือง เพื่อพูดกันตามลำพัง แล้วแทงเขาที่ลำตัวจนตาย เพื่อแก้แค้นที่อับเนอร์ทำให้อาสาเฮลน้องชายของโยอาบตาย
27And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib , that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.
28ต่อมาเมื่อดาวิดทราบข่าว เขากล่าวว่า “ข้าและอาณาจักรของข้าไม่มีความผิดในสายพระเนตรพระยาห์เวห์ตลอดไปในเรื่องโลหิตของอับเนอร์บุตรเนอร์
28¶ And afterward when David heard it , he said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD for ever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner:
29ขอให้ความผิดนี้ตกอยู่บนศีรษะโยอาบและวงศ์วานบิดาของเขาทั้งหมด ขออย่าให้วงศ์วานโยอาบขาดคนที่มีของเหลวไหลจากร่างกาย หรือคนเป็นโรคเรื้อน หรือคนที่เดินพยุงไม้เท้า หรือคนที่ตายด้วยคมดาบ หรือคนที่ขาดแคลนอาหาร”
29Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father’s house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth on the sword, or that lacketh bread.
30โยอาบกับอาบีชัยน้องชายฆ่าอับเนอร์ เพราะอับเนอร์ได้ฆ่าอาสาเฮลน้องชายของพวกเขาในศึกที่กิเบโอน
30So Joab and Abishai his brother slew Abner, because he had slain their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.

31¶ And David said to Joab, and to all the people that were with him, Rend your clothes, and gird you with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. And king David himself followed the bier.
32พวกเขาฝังศพอับเนอร์ที่เฮโบรน กษัตริย์ร้องไห้เสียงดังที่หลุมศพอับเนอร์ ทุกคนก็ร้องไห้ด้วย
32And they buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.
33กษัตริย์คร่ำครวญถึงอับเนอร์ว่า “อับเนอร์ควรตายอย่างคนโง่หรือ?
33And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dieth?
34มือของเจ้าไม่ได้ถูกมัด เท้าของเจ้าไม่ได้ถูกล่าม เจ้าล้มลงเหมือนคนที่ล้มต่อหน้าคนชั่ว” ทุกคนก็ร้องไห้ให้เขาอีก
34Thy hands were not bound, nor thy feet put into fetters: as a man falleth before wicked men, so fellest thou. And all the people wept again over him.
35ทุกคนมาขอให้ดาวิดกินอาหารขณะที่ยังเป็นเวลากลางวัน แต่ดาวิดสาบานว่า “ขอพระเจ้าลงโทษข้าอย่างหนัก หากข้ากินขนมปังหรือสิ่งใดก่อนดวงอาทิตย์ตก”
35And when all the people came to cause David to eat meat while it was yet day, David sware, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down.
36ทุกคนสังเกตเห็นเช่นนั้นและพอใจ ไม่ว่ากษัตริย์จะทำอะไร ประชาชนทุกคนก็พอใจ
36And all the people took notice of it , and it pleased them: as whatsoever the king did pleased all the people.
37วันนั้นประชาชนทุกคนและชาวอิสราเอลทั้งหมดจึงเข้าใจว่า กษัตริย์ไม่ได้มีส่วนในการฆ่าอับเนอร์บุตรเนอร์
37For all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner.
38กษัตริย์พูดกับคนของเขาว่า “พวกเจ้าไม่รู้หรือว่าวันนี้ผู้นำผู้ยิ่งใหญ่คนหนึ่งล้มลงในอิสราเอล?
38And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel?
39วันนี้ข้าอ่อนกำลัง แม้ได้รับการเจิมเป็นกษัตริย์แล้ว ส่วนบุตรชายของนางเศรุยาห์เหล่านี้เกินกำลังที่ข้าจะรับมือได้ ขอพระยาห์เวห์ทรงตอบแทนผู้ทำชั่วตามความชั่วของเขา”
39And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah be too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.
