1The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.
1ファラオがガザを打つ前に、ペリシテ人について預言者エレミヤに臨んだ主の言葉。
2Thus saith the LORD: Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall become an overflowing stream, and they shall overflow the land and all that is therein, the city and them that dwell therein; and the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
2主はこう言われる。 「見よ、北から水が上って来て、 あふれる奔流となる。 それは地とそこにあるすべてのもの、 町とその住民を覆う。 人々は叫び、 この地の住民は皆、泣き叫ぶ。
3At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong ones, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers look not back to their children for feebleness of hands;
3強い馬のひづめの音、 戦車の突進する音、 車輪のとどろきのために、 父親たちは手の力を失い、 子どもたちを振り返ることもできない。
4Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Zidon every helper that remaineth; for the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the isle of Caphtor.
4すべてのペリシテ人を滅ぼし、 ツロとシドンから残っている助け手をすべて断つ日が来るからだ。 主はペリシテ人、 カフトルの島の残りの者を滅ぼされる。
5Baldness is come upon Gaza, Ashkelon is brought to nought, the remnant of their valley; how long wilt thou cut thyself?
5ガザは頭をそられ、 アシュケロンは滅ぼされた。 谷の残りの者よ、 いつまで自分の身を傷つけるのか。
6O thou sword of the LORD, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? Put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.
6『ああ、主の剣よ、 いつになれば静まるのか。 さやに戻り、 休んで静まれ。』
7How canst thou be quiet? for the LORD hath given it a charge; against Ashkelon, and against the sea-shore, there hath He appointed it.
7どうして静まることができようか。 主が剣に命じられたのだ。 アシュケロンと海岸に向かって、 主はそれを定められた。」
