1The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying:
1ユダの王ヨシヤの子エホヤキムの時代に、主からエレミヤに言葉が臨んで言われた。
2'Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.'
2「レカブ人の家へ行って彼らに語り、彼らを主の家の一つの部屋に連れて来て、ぶどう酒を飲ませよ。」
3Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;
3そこで私は、ハバツィンヤの孫で、エレミヤの子であるヤアザンヤと、その兄弟たち、そのすべての息子たち、レカブ人の全家を連れて行った。
4and I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door;
4私は彼らを主の家に連れて行き、神の人イグダルヤの子ハナンの息子たちの部屋に入れた。その部屋は高官たちの部屋の隣にあり、戸口を守る者であるシャルムの子マアセヤの部屋の上にあった。
5and I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites goblets full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them: 'Drink ye wine.'
5私はレカブ人の家の息子たちの前に、ぶどう酒を満たした鉢と杯を置き、彼らに言った。「ぶどう酒を飲みなさい。」
6But they said: 'We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying: Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons, for ever;
6しかし、彼らは言った。「私たちはぶどう酒を飲みません。私たちの父レカブの子ヨナダブが、私たちにこう命じたからです。『あなたがたも、あなたがたの子どもたちも、永遠にぶどう酒を飲んではならない。
7neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any; but all your days ye shall dwell in tents, that ye may live many days in the land wherein ye sojourn.
7家を建ててはならず、種を蒔いてはならず、ぶどう畑を植えてはならず、ぶどう畑を所有してもならない。生涯、天幕に住め。そうすれば、寄留者として住む地で長く生きることができる。』
8And we have hearkened to the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;
8私たちは、父レカブの子ヨナダブが命じたすべてのことに聞き従ってきました。私たちも、妻たちも、息子たちも、娘たちも、生涯ぶどう酒を飲まず、
9nor to build houses for us to dwell in, neither to have vineyard, or field, or seed;
9自分たちが住む家を建てませんでした。私たちには、ぶどう畑も畑も種もありません。
10but we have dwelt in tents, and have hearkened, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.
10私たちは天幕に住み、父ヨナダブが命じたすべてのことに聞き従い、そのとおりに行ってきました。
11But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up against the land, that we said: Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Arameans; so we dwell at Jerusalem.'
11しかし、バビロンの王ネブカドネザルがこの地に攻め上って来た時、私たちは、『さあ、カルデア人の軍隊とアラム人の軍隊を恐れて、エルサレムへ行こう』と言いました。それで今、私たちはエルサレムに住んでいるのです。」
12Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying:
12その時、主の言葉がエレミヤに臨んで言われた。
13'Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Go, and say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to My words? saith the LORD.
13「イスラエルの神、万軍の主はこう言われる。『行って、ユダの人々とエルサレムの住民に告げよ。「あなたがたは教えを受け入れ、わたしの言葉に聞き従おうとしないのか」と、主は言われる。
14The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed, and unto this day they drink none, for they hearken to their father's commandment; but I have spoken unto you, speaking betimes and often, and ye have not hearkened unto Me.
14レカブの子ヨナダブが、自分の息子たちにぶどう酒を飲まないよう命じた言葉は守られている。彼らは父の命令に聞き従い、今日までぶどう酒を飲んでいない。しかし、わたしは朝早くから繰り返しあなたがたに語ったのに、あなたがたはわたしに聞き従わなかった。
15I have sent also unto you all My servants the prophets, sending them betimes and often, saying: Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers; but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto Me.
15わたしは、わたしのしもべであるすべての預言者たちを、朝早くから繰り返しあなたがたに遣わして、こう言った。「今、それぞれ悪い道から立ち返り、自分たちの行いを改めよ。ほかの神々に従って行き、これらに仕えてはならない。そうすれば、わたしがあなたがたと父祖たちに与えた地に住むことができる。」しかし、あなたがたは耳を傾けず、わたしに聞き従わなかった。
16Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people hath not hearkened unto Me;
16レカブの子ヨナダブの息子たちは、父が命じた命令を守った。しかし、この民はわたしに聞き従わなかった。』」
17therefore thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard, and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.'
17「それゆえ、イスラエルの神、万軍の主はこう言われる。『見よ、わたしはユダとエルサレムのすべての住民に、わたしが彼らに対して告げたすべての災いをもたらす。わたしが彼らに語っても、彼らは聞かず、わたしが彼らを呼んでも、彼らは答えなかったからだ。』」
18And unto the house of the Rechabites Jeremiah said: Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Because ye have hearkened to the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he commanded you;
18エレミヤはレカブ人の家に言った。「イスラエルの神、万軍の主はこう言われる。『あなたがたは父ヨナダブの命令に聞き従い、そのすべての戒めを守り、彼が命じたすべてのことを行った。』
19therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: There shall not be cut off unto Jonadab the son of Rechab a man to stand before Me for ever.'
19それゆえ、イスラエルの神、万軍の主はこう言われる。『レカブの子ヨナダブには、わたしの前に立つ者が永遠に絶えることはない。』」
