Jeremiah 26

1In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, came this word from the LORD, saying:
1ユダの王ヨシヤの子エホヤキムの治世の初めに、主からこの言葉が臨んだ。
2'Thus saith the LORD: Stand in the court of the LORD'S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD'S house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word.
2「主はこう言われる。『主の家の庭に立ち、主の家に礼拝しに来るユダのすべての町の人々に、わたしが語るよう命じるすべての言葉を語れ。一言も省いてはならない。
3It may be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way; that I may repent Me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.
3もしかすると、彼らは聞き、それぞれ悪い道から立ち返るかもしれない。そうすれば、わたしは彼らの悪い行いのために行おうと考えている災いを思い直す。』」
4And thou shalt say unto them: Thus saith the LORD: If ye will not hearken to Me, to walk in My law, which I have set before you,
4「あなたは彼らにこう言え。『主はこう言われる。「もしあなたがたがわたしに聞き従わず、わたしがあなたがたの前に置いた律法に従って歩まず、
5to hearken to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I send unto you, even sending them betimes and often, but ye have not hearkened;
5わたしが朝早くから繰り返し遣わしている、わたしのしもべである預言者たちの言葉に聞き従わないなら――あなたがたはこれまで聞き従わなかった――
6then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.'
6わたしはこの家をシロのようにし、この町を地のすべての国々にとって呪いの的とする。」』」
7So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.
7祭司たち、預言者たち、すべての民は、エレミヤが主の家でこれらの言葉を語るのを聞いた。
8Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold on him, saying: 'Thou shalt surely die.
8エレミヤが、主からすべての民に語るよう命じられたことをすべて語り終えると、祭司たち、預言者たち、すべての民は彼を捕らえて言った。「おまえは必ず死ななければならない。
9Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying: This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without an inhabitant?' And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.
9なぜ、おまえは主の名によって、『この家はシロのようになり、この町は荒れ果て、住む者がいなくなる』と預言したのか。」すべての民は主の家でエレミヤの周りに押し寄せた。
10When the princes of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king's house unto the house of the LORD; and they sat in the entry of the new gate of the LORD'S house.
10ユダの高官たちはこれらのことを聞くと、王の家から主の家へ上って来て、主の家の新しい門の入口に座った。
11Then spoke the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying: 'This man is worthy of death; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.'
11祭司たちと預言者たちは、高官たちとすべての民に言った。「この男は死刑に値する。あなたがたが自分の耳で聞いたとおり、この町に対して預言したからだ。」
12Then spoke Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying: 'The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.
12そこでエレミヤは、すべての高官たちとすべての民に言った。「主が私を遣わし、この家とこの町に対して、あなたがたの聞いたこれらすべての言葉を預言するよう命じられたのです。
13Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and hearken to the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent Him of the evil that He hath pronounced against you.
13それゆえ今、あなたがたの道と行いを改め、あなたがたの神、主の声に聞き従ってください。そうすれば、主はあなたがたに告げられた災いを思い直されます。
14But as for me, behold, I am in your hand; do with me as is good and right in your eyes.
14見よ、私はあなたがたの手の中にいます。あなたがたの目に良く正しいと思うことを、私に行ってください。
15Only know ye for certain that, if ye put me to death, ye will bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof; for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.'
15ただし、よく知っておいてください。もし私を殺すなら、あなたがた自身と、この町とその住民の上に、罪のない者の血をもたらすことになります。主が本当に私をあなたがたのもとに遣わし、これらすべての言葉をあなたがたの耳に語らせたからです。」
16Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets: 'This man is not worthy of death; for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.'
16すると、高官たちとすべての民は、祭司たちと預言者たちに言った。「この男は死刑に値しない。私たちの神、主の名によって私たちに語ったからだ。」
17Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying:
17その時、この地の長老たちの何人かが立ち上がり、民の全会衆に語った。
18'Micah the Morashtite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah; and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying: Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.
18「モレシェト人ミカは、ユダの王ヒゼキヤの時代に預言し、ユダのすべての民にこう語った。『万軍の主はこう言われる。 「シオンは畑のように耕され、 エルサレムは石の山となり、 主の家の山は森に覆われた高台のようになる。」』
19Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the LORD, and entreat the favour of the LORD, and the LORD repented Him of the evil which He had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our own souls.'
19ユダの王ヒゼキヤとユダのすべての民は、彼を殺しただろうか。ヒゼキヤは主を恐れ、主に願い求めたので、主は彼らに告げられた災いを思い直されたではないか。もし私たちが彼を殺せば、自分たちに大きな災いを招くことになる。」
20And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Uriah the son of Shemaiah of Kiriath-jearim; and he prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah;
20また、キルヤテ・エアリム出身のシェマヤの子ウリヤという人も、主の名によって預言した。彼はエレミヤのすべての言葉と同じように、この町とこの地に対して預言した。
21and when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death; but when Uriah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt;
21エホヤキム王と、そのすべての勇士たち、高官たちが彼の言葉を聞くと、王は彼を殺そうとした。ウリヤはそれを聞いて恐れ、エジプトへ逃げて行った。
22and Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him, into Egypt;
22そこでエホヤキム王は、アクボルの子エルナタンと、彼に同行する何人かの者をエジプトへ遣わした。
23and they fetched forth Uriah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the children of the people.
23彼らはウリヤをエジプトから連れ出し、エホヤキム王のもとへ連れて来た。王は彼を剣で殺し、その死体を一般の民の墓に投げ込んだ。
24Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.
24しかし、シャファンの子アヒカムがエレミヤを守ったので、彼は殺されるために民の手に渡されなかった。
