1And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
1ในช่วงเวลานั้น ยูดาห์ออกจากพวกพี่น้อง ลงไปหาชาวอดุลลัมคนหนึ่งชื่อฮีราห์
2And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua; and he took her, and went in unto her.
2ที่นั่นยูดาห์เห็นบุตรสาวของชายชาวคานาอันคนหนึ่งชื่อชูอา เขารับเธอเป็นภรรยาและร่วมหลับนอนกับเธอ
3And she conceived, and bore a son; and he called his name Er.
3เธอตั้งครรภ์และคลอดบุตรชาย ยูดาห์ตั้งชื่อเขาว่าเออร์
4And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she called his name Onan.
4เธอตั้งครรภ์อีกและคลอดบุตรชาย แล้วตั้งชื่อเขาว่าโอนัน
5And she yet again bore a son, and called his name Shelah; and he was at Chezib, when she bore him.
5ต่อมาเธอคลอดบุตรชายอีกคนและตั้งชื่อว่าเชลาห์ ตอนที่เธอคลอดเขา ยูดาห์อยู่ที่เคซิบ
6And Judah took a wife for Er his first-born, and her name was Tamar.
6ยูดาห์หาภรรยาให้เออร์บุตรชายคนโตของเขา หญิงนั้นชื่อทามาร์
7And Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.
7แต่เออร์บุตรคนโตของยูดาห์ทำชั่วในสายตาของพระยาห์เวห์ พระยาห์เวห์จึงฆ่าเขา
8And Judah said unto Onan: 'Go in unto thy brother's wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her, and raise up seed to thy brother.'
8ยูดาห์จึงพูดกับโอนันว่า “ไปร่วมหลับนอนกับภรรยาของพี่ชาย ทำหน้าที่ของน้องชาย และมีลูกกับเธอเพื่อสืบเชื้อสายให้พี่ชายของเจ้า”
9And Onan knew that the seed would not be his; and it came to pass when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother.
9โอนันรู้ว่าลูกที่เกิดมาจะไม่ถือเป็นเชื้อสายของตน ดังนั้นเมื่อเขาร่วมหลับนอนกับภรรยาของพี่ชาย เขาก็ปล่อยน้ำเชื้อลงบนพื้น เพื่อไม่ให้มีลูกสืบเชื้อสายให้พี่ชาย
10And the thing which he did was evil in the sight of the LORD; and He slew him also.
10สิ่งที่โอนันทำเป็นความชั่วในสายตาของพระยาห์เวห์ พระยาห์เวห์จึงฆ่าเขาด้วย
11Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter-in-law: 'Remain a widow in thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown up'; for he said: 'Lest he also die, like his brethren.' And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.
11ยูดาห์จึงพูดกับทามาร์ลูกสะใภ้ว่า “อยู่เป็นม่ายที่บ้านพ่อของเธอไปก่อน จนเชลาห์ลูกชายฉันโต” เพราะเขาคิดว่า “ไม่อย่างนั้นเชลาห์อาจตายเหมือนพี่ๆ ของเขาอีก” ทามาร์จึงกลับไปอยู่บ้านพ่อของเธอ
12And in process of time Shua's daughter, the wife of Judah, died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheep-shearers to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
12เมื่อเวลาผ่านไปนาน ภรรยาของยูดาห์ซึ่งเป็นลูกสาวชูอาก็ตาย พอยูดาห์คลายความโศกแล้ว เขากับฮีราห์เพื่อนชาวอดุลลัมก็ขึ้นไปหาคนตัดขนแกะของเขาที่ทิมนาห์
13And it was told Tamar, saying: 'Behold, thy father-in-law goeth up to Timnah to shear his sheep.'
13มีคนมาบอกทามาร์ว่า “พ่อสามีของเธอกำลังขึ้นไปทิมนาห์เพื่อตัดขนแกะ”
14And she put off from her the garments of her widowhood, and covered herself with her veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the entrance of Enaim, which is by the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she was not given unto him to wife.
14ทามาร์จึงถอดชุดหญิงม่ายออก ใช้ผ้าคลุมหน้าและห่อตัวไว้ แล้วนั่งอยู่ตรงทางเข้าเอนาอิมซึ่งอยู่บนทางไปทิมนาห์ เพราะเธอเห็นว่าเชลาห์โตแล้ว แต่ยูดาห์ก็ยังไม่ได้ยกเธอให้เขาเป็นภรรยา
15When Judah saw her, he thought her to be a harlot; for she had covered her face.
15เมื่อยูดาห์เห็นเธอ เขาคิดว่าเธอเป็นหญิงโสเภณี เพราะเธอคลุมหน้าไว้
16And he turned unto her by the way, and said: 'Come, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee'; for he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said: 'What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?'
16ยูดาห์จึงแวะเข้าไปหาเธอข้างทางและพูดว่า “มานี่สิ ฉันขอหลับนอนกับเธอ” เพราะเขาไม่รู้ว่าเธอเป็นลูกสะใภ้ เธอถามว่า “คุณจะให้อะไรฉัน ถ้าจะมาหลับนอนกับฉัน?”
17And he said: 'I will send thee a kid of the goats from the flock.' And she said: 'Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?'
17ยูดาห์ตอบว่า “ฉันจะส่งลูกแพะจากฝูงมาให้เธอหนึ่งตัว” เธอถามว่า “ระหว่างที่ยังไม่ส่งมา คุณจะให้อะไรฉันไว้เป็นของประกัน?”
18And he said: 'What pledge shall I give thee?' And she said: 'Thy signet and thy cord, and thy staff that is in thy hand.' And he gave them to her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
18เขาถามว่า “จะให้ฉันวางอะไรเป็นของประกัน?” เธอตอบว่า “ตราประทับ เชือกของคุณ และไม้เท้าที่ถืออยู่” ยูดาห์จึงมอบของเหล่านั้นให้เธอ แล้วร่วมหลับนอนกับเธอ และเธอก็ตั้งครรภ์กับเขา
19And she arose, and went away, and put off her veil from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.
19จากนั้นเธอลุกขึ้นกลับไป ถอดผ้าคลุมหน้าออก แล้วสวมชุดหญิงม่ายตามเดิม
20And Judah sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the woman's hand; but he found her not.
20ยูดาห์ฝากลูกแพะไปกับฮีราห์เพื่อนชาวอดุลลัม เพื่อเอาของประกันคืนจากหญิงคนนั้น แต่ฮีราห์หาเธอไม่พบ
21Then he asked the men of her place, saying: 'Where is the harlot, that was at Enaim by the wayside?' And they said: 'There hath been no harlot here.'
21เขาจึงถามคนแถวนั้นว่า “หญิงโสเภณีที่อยู่ข้างทางตรงเอนาอิมอยู่ไหน?” พวกเขาตอบว่า “ที่นี่ไม่มีหญิงโสเภณีหรอก”
22And he returned to Judah, and said: 'I have not found her; and also the men of the place said: There hath been no harlot here.'
22ฮีราห์กลับไปหายูดาห์และบอกว่า “ฉันหาเธอไม่พบ คนที่นั่นก็บอกว่า ‘ที่นี่ไม่มีหญิงโสเภณีหรอก’”
23And Judah said: 'Let her take it, lest we be put to shame; behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.'
23ยูดาห์ตอบว่า “ปล่อยให้เธอเก็บของพวกนั้นไว้เถอะ จะได้ไม่เป็นที่อับอาย ฉันส่งลูกแพะไปแล้ว แต่ก็หาเธอไม่พบ”
24And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying: 'Tamar thy daughter-in-law hath played the harlot; and moreover, behold, she is with child by harlotry.' And Judah said: 'Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.'

25When she was brought forth, she sent to her father-in-law, saying: 'By the man, whose these are, am I with child'; and she said: 'Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and the cords, and the staff.'

26And Judah acknowledged them, and said: 'She is more righteous than I; forasmuch as I gave her not to Shelah my son.' And he knew her again no more.
26ยูดาห์จำของเหล่านั้นได้และพูดว่า “เธอเป็นฝ่ายถูกมากกว่าฉัน เพราะฉันไม่ได้ยกเธอให้เชลาห์ลูกชายของฉัน” หลังจากนั้นเขาไม่ได้ร่วมหลับนอนกับเธออีก
27And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.

28And it came to pass, when she travailed, that one put out a hand; and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying: 'This came out first.'
28ระหว่างที่เธอกำลังคลอด เด็กคนหนึ่งยื่นมือออกมา หมอตำแยจึงเอาด้ายสีแดงสดผูกที่มือเด็กแล้วพูดว่า “คนนี้ออกมาก่อน”
29And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold his brother came out; and she said: 'Wherefore hast thou made a breach for thyself?' Therefore his name was called Perez.
29แต่เด็กคนนั้นดึงมือกลับเข้าไป แล้วเด็กอีกคนก็คลอดออกมาก่อน หมอตำแยจึงพูดว่า “ทำไมเจ้าถึงแหวกออกมาอย่างนี้!” เพราะเหตุนี้จึงตั้งชื่อเขาว่าเปเรศ
30And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand; and his name was called Zerah.
30หลังจากนั้นเด็กที่มีด้ายสีแดงสดผูกอยู่ที่มือก็คลอดออกมา และตั้งชื่อเขาว่าเศราห์
