1And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
1那時， 猶大 離開他弟兄下去，到一個 亞杜蘭 人名叫 希拉 的家裏去。
2And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua; and he took her, and went in unto her.
2猶大 在那裏看見一個 迦南 人名叫 書亞 的女兒，就娶她為妻，與她同房，
3And she conceived, and bore a son; and he called his name Er.
3她就懷孕生了兒子， 猶大 給他起名叫 珥 。
4And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she called his name Onan.
4她又懷孕生了兒子，母親給他起名叫 俄南 。
5And she yet again bore a son, and called his name Shelah; and he was at Chezib, when she bore him.
5她復又生了兒子，給他起名叫 示拉 。她生 示拉 的時候， 猶大 正在 基悉 。
6And Judah took a wife for Er his first-born, and her name was Tamar.
6猶大 為長子 珥 娶妻，名叫 她瑪 。
7And Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.
7猶大 的長子 珥 在耶和華眼中看為惡，耶和華就叫他死了。
8And Judah said unto Onan: 'Go in unto thy brother's wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her, and raise up seed to thy brother.'
8猶大 對 俄南 說：「你當與你哥哥的妻子同房，向她盡你為弟的本分，為你哥哥生子立後。」
9And Onan knew that the seed would not be his; and it came to pass when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother.
9俄南 知道生子不歸自己，所以同房的時候便遺在地，免得給他哥哥留後。
10And the thing which he did was evil in the sight of the LORD; and He slew him also.
10俄南 所做的在耶和華眼中看為惡，耶和華也就叫他死了。
11Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter-in-law: 'Remain a widow in thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown up'; for he said: 'Lest he also die, like his brethren.' And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.
11猶大 心裏說：「恐怕 示拉 也死，像他兩個哥哥一樣」，就對他兒婦 她瑪 說：「你去，在你父親家裏守寡，等我兒子 示拉 長大。」 她瑪 就回去，住在她父親家裏。
12And in process of time Shua's daughter, the wife of Judah, died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheep-shearers to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
12過了許久， 猶大 的妻子 書亞 的女兒死了。 猶大 得了安慰，就和他朋友 亞杜蘭 人 希拉 上 亭拿 去，到他剪羊毛的人那裏。
13And it was told Tamar, saying: 'Behold, thy father-in-law goeth up to Timnah to shear his sheep.'
13有人告訴 她瑪 說：「你的公公上 亭拿 剪羊毛去了。」
14And she put off from her the garments of her widowhood, and covered herself with her veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the entrance of Enaim, which is by the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she was not given unto him to wife.
14她瑪 見 示拉 已經長大，還沒有娶她為妻，就脫了她作寡婦的衣裳，用帕子蒙着臉，又遮住身體，坐在 亭拿 路上的 伊拿印 城門口。
15When Judah saw her, he thought her to be a harlot; for she had covered her face.
15猶大 看見她，以為是妓女，因為她蒙着臉。
16And he turned unto her by the way, and said: 'Come, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee'; for he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said: 'What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?'
16猶大 就轉到她那裏去，說：「來吧！讓我與你同寢。」他原不知道是他的兒婦。 她瑪 說：「你要與我同寢，把甚麼給我呢？」
17And he said: 'I will send thee a kid of the goats from the flock.' And she said: 'Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?'
17猶大 說：「我從羊群裏取一隻山羊羔，打發人送來給你。」 她瑪 說：「在未送以先，你願意給我一個當頭嗎？」
18And he said: 'What pledge shall I give thee?' And she said: 'Thy signet and thy cord, and thy staff that is in thy hand.' And he gave them to her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
18他說：「我給你甚麼當頭呢？」 她瑪 說：「你的印、你的帶子，和你手裏的杖。」 猶大 就給了她，與她同寢，她就從 猶大 懷了孕。
19And she arose, and went away, and put off her veil from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.
19她瑪 起來走了，除去帕子，仍舊穿上作寡婦的衣裳。
20And Judah sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the woman's hand; but he found her not.
20猶大 託他朋友 亞杜蘭 人送一隻山羊羔去，要從那女人手裏取回當頭來，卻找不着她，
21Then he asked the men of her place, saying: 'Where is the harlot, that was at Enaim by the wayside?' And they said: 'There hath been no harlot here.'
21就問那地方的人說：「 伊拿印 路旁的妓女在哪裏？」他們說：「這裏並沒有妓女。」
22And he returned to Judah, and said: 'I have not found her; and also the men of the place said: There hath been no harlot here.'
22他回去見 猶大 說：「我沒有找着她，並且那地方的人說：『這裏沒有妓女。』」
23And Judah said: 'Let her take it, lest we be put to shame; behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.'
23猶大 說：「我把這山羊羔送去了，你竟找不着她。任憑她拿去吧，免得我們被羞辱。」
24And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying: 'Tamar thy daughter-in-law hath played the harlot; and moreover, behold, she is with child by harlotry.' And Judah said: 'Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.'
24約過了三個月，有人告訴 猶大 說：「你的兒婦 她瑪 作了妓女，且因行淫有了身孕。」 猶大 說：「拉出她來，把她燒了！」
25When she was brought forth, she sent to her father-in-law, saying: 'By the man, whose these are, am I with child'; and she said: 'Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and the cords, and the staff.'
25她瑪 被拉出來的時候便打發人去見她公公，對他說：「這些東西是誰的，我就是從誰懷的孕。請你認一認，這印和帶子並杖都是誰的？」
26And Judah acknowledged them, and said: 'She is more righteous than I; forasmuch as I gave her not to Shelah my son.' And he knew her again no more.
26猶大 承認說：「她比我更有義，因為我沒有將她給我的兒子 示拉 。」從此 猶大 不再與她同寢了。
27And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.
27她瑪 將要生產，不料她腹裏是一對雙生。
28And it came to pass, when she travailed, that one put out a hand; and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying: 'This came out first.'
28到生產的時候，一個孩子伸出一隻手來；收生婆拿紅線拴在他手上，說：「這是頭生的。」
29And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold his brother came out; and she said: 'Wherefore hast thou made a breach for thyself?' Therefore his name was called Perez.
29隨後這孩子把手收回去，他哥哥生出來了；收生婆說：「你為甚麼搶着來呢？」因此給他起名叫 法勒斯 。
30And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand; and his name was called Zerah.
30後來，他兄弟那手上有紅線的也生出來，就給他起名叫 謝拉 。
